I've been to the museum when I was 13 or 14 and I loved it not just the mummy's but the whole museum and the history of Mexico. I had so much fun and I loved it. It looks so much bigger now I want to go back. They have some of the oldest Mexican mummy's and a pregnant woman with her baby.
I like how you are very respectful to the mummies/people and what happened to them. Very interesting! We just left Guanajuato yesterday but were unaware of the museum!
"What if the rent is paid again, after a lapse?" inquired Joseph. "In that time," said the [cemetery] caretaker, "the bodies are reburied for as many years as are paid." "Sounds like blackmail," said Joseph. The little man shrugged, hands in pockets. "We must live." "You are certain no one can pay the one hundred seventy pesos all at once," said Joseph. "So in this way you get them for twenty pesos a year, year after year, for maybe thirty years. If they don't pay, you threaten to stand mamacita or little niño in the catacomb." "We must live," said the little man. ~ Ray Bradbury, "The Next in Line"
You say the museum opened in 1969 but I saw these same mummies in 1966-67. They were all lined up in a room, standing up, leaning against the walls. I remember one of them looked like Abe Lincoln. It was creepy as hell and one of the major highlights of my trip to Mexico.
That's right. But before the museum opened, they were on display in a less official capacity. It's definitely an interesting attraction. Thanks for watching! -Jim
Amazing but also very sad that these people are displayed like this.. Every person should be able to rest in peace in their grave.. Amazing their preservation.. and What a beautiful city
You failed to mention. The mummification process is impressive itself, it was only due special geological elements in the area at the time that the bodies were preserved that well. It’s not just random bodies displayed, egiptcians only were able to do this through a hard un-natural process
@@SpanishandGo Well, actually, you only briefly discussed the "weather" and "the fact that it was sealed tight." You failed to mention the sulfur and mineral rich soil in Guanajuato that may have also contributed to the natural mummification process. Great video though. :)
Last year in winter break I went to Mexico to meet family and medical reasons for my dad since he has back pain and doctor who are really cheap and still remember coming here

I went there and it is scary also they say at night they leave there and haunt around I had this weird felling because we took a bus and they showed us around it’s weird about all the stories but it’s cool
Man i miss this place i grew up in mexico specifically in leon (now i live in the US) and whenever we could afford it from time to time we would go to the museum, there's a mummy of a lady there who committed suicide by hanging its sad i know just be aware of people overcharging tourists, maybe one day I'll go back and take my gf and go to kiss alley and we'll have our own Romeo Juliette story. Seriously take your wifey, girl or boyfriend whoever and share a beautiful moment.
I’ve been there. My family came from there, It’s fucking disrespectful to the people to have them there like that. Don’t support such a disgusting attraction.
I’m only here cause forza horizon 5, i had asked my mom if she knew anything bout Guanajuato an the first thing she said was, “Las momias de Guanajuato”

These souls are restless. Bury them and let them rest in peace.
In guanajuato not even death could keep you from rent, and if you didn't have enough you had to use your body to make it up.

This video is amazing!!! Very professional!!
Thanks for your words, Drake!

That’s pretty messed up that they have to pay taxes.
That was a long ass time ago.
For some reason i keep finding you on my fyp for the past 5 years
It's kind of shameful that they were exhumed because their families didn't pay the tax and now the city is making money by exploiting them..

I rode a horse there in 1980. I took photos but lost them over the years.
Just saw your IG story about this place and came to youtube to see a video of it.
This is an awesome idea for a video!! Learn Spanish while you learn and explore places in Latin America. :D

Muy interesante. I thought I was looking at my poor old dad for a moment. It’s ok, he has a sense of humour too.
Lol! We hope your dad is doing well!

+Spanish and Go Yes, he is fine.
Dado que la cremación es la base en Japón, no tengo la oportunidad de ver momias.
¡Es interesante como ver una película de terror!

The smallest mummy in the world is not that one, the real smallest one is at Museo de las Ánimas in Encarnación de Díaz, Jalisco.
Reminds me of Nosferatu.
