Excellent review as usual. What are the full set of pedals you use on your pedal board either for gigging or home use(apart from an octave pedal, envelope filter and a distortion pedal) ?
Hi Jon, I have a large pedal board that I rarely take out. I usually take my small board that holds up to 5 pedals and change pedals for each gig. The pedals I use most are Chorus, Octave and my SpectraDrive pedal when I’m plugging directly into the PA. I always have a tuner and occasionally use Envelope Filter, Flanger, Distortion and Wah. I always have a tuner pedal too. To be honest though, I would say that I don’t use any effects for about 70% of my pro gigs.
Jon Swift same for you, hope things are ok. It’s a weird time at the moment, family ok and just getting my head down, making content. Hopefully it can be a productive time until the gigs start again! Stay safe.
I think this is a pedal that a lot don’t like, but it does have it’s fans too. Out of all the Boss pedals, it might get one of the most divided responses.
I am what you might call an educated hater, because I have this pedal, heh heh. This pedal would probably be great if it were marketed as a *bass fuzz* pedal. However, it is marketed as an *overdrive* pedal, which is what I wanted/want. I have had this pedal better than 12 years. Every once in a while I hook it up and tinker with dials thinking that maybe the pedal is difficult to adjust, and if I just keep trying, I will get there. The best I have achieved with this pedal is to turn the DRIVE knob all the way down, and turn the BALANCE knob all the way up. It still does not even approach a smooth overdrive sound, but it is what I have, so I keep using it that way. Ultimately, I never get close to an overdrive sound, but I have not been able to bring myself to toss it the weekly bin.
@@barrybrevik9178 I parted with my pedal in the end and managed to sell it on. I found a similar thing in that I was having the Drive knob so low to get anything near the sound I wanted. But ultimately it didn’t give a the sound I wanted.
The review is excellent. I would not say the same about the pedal itself. It's NOT an overdrive as its name suggests, but rather a fuzz pedal. And the knobs have to be set very carefully (as you mentioned), otherwise the tone becomes but a dirty mess. It's definitely not an overdrive pedal for every bassist. And it's noisy, too.
Thanks! That bass is one of my own creations! I brought the parts, coloured and treated the body with a product called ‘Wudtone’ then designed a new scratchplate.
@@Metalbass1979 cheers! Forgot to mention that it has flatwounds on it too. I prefer the brighter sound of roundwounds in a lot of my bases but flatwounds really work on this bass. I hope you enjoy the channel.
Sorry for some reason I'm not getting notified of your comments at the moment so I only find them days later. Nope I don't use fret wraps and never tried them. I have heard they are handy if you are predominantly playing high up on the instrument or tapping but for general playing I have never found the need. They are pretty trendy at the moment though! No harm in trying one though if you are interested.
@@GregsBassShed oh wow! You made that?! awesome! What does it say on the headstock?, i cant make out what it says in the vid….Ive decided to buy the Boss odb-3 by the way, thank you.

Hey Mark, yeah I do chat about using the balance knob to get a more dryer sound if you want it but you probably misunderstood what I was trying to say about the original sound of the bass. What I meant is that for me, this pedal radically changes the sound even with just a bit of drive added in and thins out the tone too much. It's just personal preference really though, I get that.
@@GregsBassShed Yeah to me it is more a distortion pedal than an overdrive. Wet it is going to change your tone. Years ago I hated it and sold it, now I am starting to appreciate it a lot more. It is still around when many have fallen by the wayside.

That bass!!! I love the color and woodgrain!
KRIEG thanks, I coloured and stained the body myself using Wudtone. I wanted something a bit different!
It's gorgeous
Really like your review style
I appreciate that!
I don’t use any ‘attachments’ being a strictly ‘bedroom bassist’ but what I really like is the main riff used to demonstrate.

That's funny 'doesn't keep the original sound of the bass' and it has a balance knob.
