That was one of the most tense episodes of HC yet. Wow. The clench is real.
I feel that MineZ was the most dramatic though. It had very nailbiting scenes for me.

I would assume so. But yeah, Sponges are amazing, you can dry entire lakes and maybe(?) Ocean with Sponges. Cook them and it makes them dry again.

My heart was pounding the entire time I was watching this. I think this has been the best Hardcore yet. Jeff, over the course of the last couple seasons, you have truly mastered the art of editing these hardcore episodes. You know just how to amplify things, be it tense moments, funny moments, or anything else. Speaking of amplifying things, on the next MCHC (you all know there's going to be another) you should play in an amplified world! That would be awesome!

ultimateplatypuz I can see where you're coming from. Roster isn't my type, mission is clearly not going to succeed, and while I appreciate the longer episodes, they're often filled with nothing. Which I can respect, but it's underwhelming looking back and seeing that the only two deaths were to action in the Nether initiated by a dumb mistake.
On the other hand, this hardcore is ideal in a few ways. First of all, the mission involves less crap. No hunting for ender pearls, and THANKFULLY, no hunting for wither skulls. The pufferfish were collected really early, and we didn't even notice. Now, obviously, there's much preparation to complete this mission, but they clearly aren't aware of that, considering that they poorly enchanted their equipment, and they brought few potions. Heck, Space Hamster was holding a stone hoe in his hotbar during this fight. But if they were super skilled, that would not be entertaining at all. If they were skilled, it'd be a one-person job!
Also, this Minecraft series is different from the rest. In all the other MCHCs, the biomes were very similar, especially compared to this one. Islands are neat. I imagine they found an ocean seed just to find the boss quicker, which is nice. Something that was super great was that we missed out on the slowest part of Minecraft, which is collecting the sugar cane and leather needed to enchant at level 30. Sure, we got a few mining episodes, but it looks like this series was rather short. Not to mention, this is a completely different mission than to that of collecting wither skulls or whatever.
All in all, (without judging the rest of the series, which I imagine is a short episode of them all dying) this series is pretty decent. It's not uber comparable to the other ones anyway. If I could change a few things about this run (or possibly suggest ideas for next time!), I would:
- Know how to beat the boss, somewhat (To put up a fight. Now, this is more exciting than wither skull collection, but it's still hopeless. No potions, no enchants, no arrows... No knowledge of how to survive without these things, either. It all adds up to confirmed failure.)
- Have a better cast (The only one that isn't regular now is Caddicarus, and quite frankly, I feel that he's already samey in the mesh of Space Hamster and PBG. I've said it hundreds of times before, but I'd love to see more Continue? or even the return of PBGs friends like Soah and Kyrak. Also, BrutalMoose is cool!)
- Perhaps introduce submissions (At no time should two people die in the Nether over soul sand. Unless if that's a submission. Having extra submissions, like, get diamonds before having armor, or, build some sort of spectacle, or, build a set of gold armor for sacrifice... Just extra stuff for them to do. I don't really have any good ideas for any. Heck, one could be to kill the ender dragon. They probably would have been more successful had they done that, because they would be able to enchant stuff at high levels and they would have ender pearls, which make the ocean boss much easier. They've done it before! Although none of those that did are alive now..)
I think this season is pretty good, but I think they're all good, no matter what game, what roster, and what mission. PBG is just an entertaining dude. (And Dean!)
I don't know what's more surprising, that Dean made it this far, or that Barry died first.
Probably Barry dying first, Dean probably just practiced.
I have never ever played Minecraft and I don't have any idea what is going on. But shit, this was intense!

But only on single player/With your own friends, because pretty much the big ass servers are filled with pointless shitty minigames and brainless little children, those servers pretty much take away the good stuff about the game.
tarabaci Taking care of the water temple isnt a big deal. if you hav even the lowest tier of depth strider, u can hit the guardians before they can hit u. Also, once ur in the temple itself, its very easy to block the lazers.
The only reason this looks so hard (thats wat she said) is because they're total noobs and are putting in dramatic music.

Having done this myself, I know how hilariously under-prepared you guys are! Not to mention going in blind with no idea what to do. Oh well, I guess that is why its so funny. Looking forwards to the finale!

Aozora Eyes This is my experience with the Guardian Temple:
My friends and I were doing a 'practice hardcore' run for something we were doing, and we had already defeated the ender dragon and wither. We had two or three water breathing potions each, and I don't know about night vision. We all knew about the guardian and we all had depth strider ( THE THING THAT THEY FORGOT BUT YOU REALLY CAN'T BLAME THEM ; W; ). So we enter, and defeat only one elder guardian. But then somebody died right when we were in the area with the gold, and we had 2 elder guardians left.
To make a long story short:
I forgot the buckets because I didn't think we'd need them, but we needed them for back up or something and then all went to hell and I basically got trapped inside the guardian temple with only some water bottles keeping me alive with air pockets.
Moral of the story:
OVER PREPARE FOR THE DANG GUARDIAN TEMPLE.

Plot Twist: They needed a map to win this one!!!!!

Yea, they are just using so much time with trying to barricade themselves and I think they used all their potions so they either have 5 minutes or 8 minutes. I cant remember if they used redstone on the potions....What if Dean made it though?

***** Yep, I was gonna say this. We decided it would be way too easy and border line cheating for HC. We used invisibility potions before, but just for something minor, not for a boss or anything.

Oh yeah! MineZ was intense for a few episodes in a row, but this battle was insane too! Haha, I have to credit that to Jeff for his amazing editing :D

Can I clarify some things? The bosses don't spawn once they get near the monument, they are already there. When they get close enough to the elder guardians they get the mining fatigue de-buff. Also, the reason that mcjones seems to be the least struggling is because he has depth strider on his boots which increases underwater movement speed. Mcjones will likely be the last one alive if it comes down to it because he can dodge and kill guardians exponentially faster than everyone else can

PBG looks like he is going to trap himself in cobblestone, not be able to mine it because of the mining fatigue, and then drown. As long as they get in I think they have a chance but there is no way they can do it in 8 minutes unless Dean brought a mother load of potions.
I love getting to that point in the Minecraft Hardcore series when I can recite every quote from the intro
That cliffhanger though.... Great now I have to wait until Saturday to see the conclusion!
This is probably my favorite HC series so far.

Holy crap! This is like the first time I've seen something this new in mine craft in a while. Sure there was bunnies and horses and different biomes but this is like seriously 100% new and different
And so the adventure continues... this stuff gets pretty intense sometimes. I love it!
With every new Hardcore series I always forget how intense this gets!

It kinda felt worse to watch when you didn't seem to have a clear strategy... You kept asking each other what you should be doing while getting shot. I seriously thought you'd all die like that in this episode.
I don't know what to expect from the next episode, for some reason I thought this was the finale. Can't wait...
I thought this was the last episode for a second. Some pretty close calls guys, it would have been easier on you if you got Depth Strider on your boots. It allows you to move faster in water, but I'm impressed at how your building walls because simply getting behind a block will indeed break the guardians beam. I'm even more impressed that none you died right off the bat, even though for some you came pretty darn close.

And thus is why Depth Strider is practically a necessity for ocean monuments, because if outside is hard, inside would be hell when they meet up with the Elder Guardian.
Omg this was the best episode of the series.

I don't even like Minecraft, but my heart was racing this entire video. I was so nervous.
Idk if they realized they had mining fatigue and couldn't even mine cobblestone. If someone misplaced a block when they were in that little stone crevice and blocked their escape route, they would have all drowned.

i'll never think of this episode the same way again after Providence's hardcore retrospective video. if just one block was misplaced in their cobblestone fort, they all would've drowned due to mining fatigue.
just one wrong move would've made one of my favorite seasons have maybe the most messed up ending possible

I was wondering I should read up on the Elder Guardians before I watched but now I'm as blind as them XD
Add the depth strider enchantement to all of the groups boots and you wont go as slow. Also, stack up on strenght potions and health regeneration potions. And add some more pieces of diamond armor to the group. Then the ocean temple will be alot easier to beat.

I would have brought a ton of signs in case the waterbreathing ran out. Signs make little air pockets and are useful for underwater exploration. :3
