For Matt - IMSA is one of the coolest series on the planet. My first event was back in 2013 at Laguna Seca. I was a sophomore or junior in High School (Actually a year before I met Matt in person at ShiftSector in Coalinga.) My friend and I ended up missing one of the teams during the autograph sessions, we walked to the trailer and Matt Plumb (the driver) greeted us and gave us a full tour in the bus with the crew. A day I won't forget! Also, when you attend to an IMSA event (at least at Laguna Seca) you can pretty much walk anywhere you want as long as you're not bothering any team crew or you are in the way from something. When you watch the race in person you are also enjoying time with friends and family, almost like a tailgate party. Matt if you have the chance to go to Laguna for May's race, I highly recommend it!
Anyone listening with any type of good audio or car definitely notices the constant banging of the table. It'd say looks into isolating the mics from the table. I try to ignore it as much as I can but it's annoying AF. Besides that great show.
There are way too many things i could comment on in this episode, definitely a good one. I feel a little attacked for the masochistic mindset i used to have from driving my s2000 over 35,000 miles a year, as well as the gent with an e28 saying driving it in traffic made it lose its spark. Turns out driving a momentum car where theres no momentum car roads kinda sucks
Your feedback is great, I have had the same issues, nothing wring with slow cars I quite like them its more sitting in a uncomfortable sports car on the endless highway absolutely sucks and always have to remind myself why I buy big GT/Luxo barges when im looking at classifieds.
Also, spinelli, I know you sometimes read this. I am inspired. I watched you on viva bastardo. As a 17 year old, I think I prefer your "road testament" show on /thedrive to the influencer crap. I still sometimes read "mike-spinelli-old"😉. Great columns.
I think the major problem with sport car racing is the fact they keep rebranding every 2-3years. It's so inconsistent. Where as formula 1 has been Formula 1 for almost a century. Indycar keeps rebranding as well to some extent which doesn't help but at least nascar and indycar are relatively stable in the naming. I mean we've gone from gt3, gt2, gt1, gte, gt pro/pro-am....it's too much. Not too mention all the other classes outside like prototype and touring car. Then you have to follow all the different racing series where teams may or may not show up in one event over the other and le man is the only stable racing event that every team traditionally wants to go to but it's still a part of WEC which most people don't even care about. It's just a cluster fuck. Formula one is easy to consume because the driver line up is small and consistent. There are hundreds of drivers in WEC/IMSA making it impossible to follow.
He's talking about Langer's! Canter's isn't very good guys but it is open very late. Also Brent's is very good. The food convos you have about LA can be frustrating.
I know this might sound like a hastle, but if you wanted to eliminate thumps on the table you could add sound deadening to it. Mounting a .25" thick steel plate to the bottom would make it heavy as hell but it'll absorb some of those vibrations I believe (use rubber washers!)
Or you could just buy a Table cloth or a Runner of fabric 😂 the reason you can hear the thump or clunks is because it's a solid block of wood and the mic stands are made of metal. Adding more mass will only move the frequency not eliminate it.
@@Gabecmc That won't have much effect as Zach or a guest bumping the Table will travel thru the Wood as it's a solid mass and it is amplified by having a Epoxy resin "river" running through it, much like you knocking on a door it's not going to be helped as it's the wood/resin vibrating as the resin has now stiffened the wood like you flicking a ruler on the table makes sound. Rubber mounts for mics only have so much damping and that is mitigated if they are gripping the table itself. So much like throwing your jacket over a tow rope or cable stops it whipping back at you. Having rubber mounts on your winch won't stop the energy should the cable snap. This is not a reflective wave, like the tiles on the wall dissipate. You don't need a tuned mass damper or anything fancy. Just something soft running along it or on the table itself that is independent of it.
Sincensomine pointed it out I see it all the time. But the audio never skips so all good. I only look at the podcast when Zack is pulling some photos up
The story of drivers having to fix their race cars on the side of the track applies to almost every race, you just rarely see it because usually by the time the driver get's out of the car he's lost so much time, it's not worth even trying to fix anything. But mechanics are usually not allowed to touch a car outside the pit lane and marshalls aren't allowed to help, either.
“I got an angry email about sipping” *slurps again* “People were pissed.” *slurps again* It’s less about the sound quality of the podcast (because it’s very high quality) and more about the misophonia people have. I’ve punched my car radio after hearing the sound of a beer being poured since it’s one of the worst sounds imaginable. One of the things that makes IMSA and FIA multi class racing hard to follow is that most of the time, they ONLY are covering the top class. So a bunch of stuff will happen in like, GTD-AM but you don't see it. It either needs to get BUSIER and go multi cam or have separate broadcasts or something. At this point I only ever have it on for background noise.
Funny how Spinelli says Wolfsburg is a nice place...when it comes to anything outside of VW, Wolfsburg must be Germany's most lame place ever...the ICE high speed train between Cologne and Berlin famously missed its stop at Wolfsburg a couple of times a few years back which added to the city's perception as being completely forgettable 😅
I had a square set of 305/30-19 NT01 Nittos on my 650whp Mustang along with all the other suspension goodies, those tires were horrible for street driving they don't operate correctly unless they're really hot so in the winter they're actually worse then the PS4 or 555g2 ect.. I now drive an 21 A91 edition supra, I'd like to put Ps4s on it if I don't trade it soon.
I have to say I'm not the biggest car guy but there's something about car talk that satisfys my aspie brain. Anyways I have read rumors about a electric alfa romeo wagon concept . I hope it at least gets a drive by some folks. Probably won't make mass production. Anyways most Germans in Bavaria are pretty stocky lol
Matt a warning about XJ coupes, your too tall. They are extremely small inside, Clarkson commented about it in an Aston Martin test a while back on top gear. How it’s (the Aston db7 or db9) basically the same as the old jag xj with a different body and how the cockpit is crazy small still.
Oh man, the slurping has been driving me crazy!, but not that crazy. I listen while on my run, with earbuds and you can hear EVERYTHING in the background. Rogan slams the shit out of his table all the time lately and it's driving me nuts!. Spike's has so much background noise it turns into white noise tbh. :D
Should rich people's traffic fines be in community service on top of the fine? And I mean real service outside when the weather suxx, not sitting through a private Zoom meeting.
I love your content Matt, I'm from the UK so I'm not fully aware of politics in the US or in particular California but you really come over as what we could call here as a 'champagne socialist'. You've had a priviliged upbringing and obviously have businesses with the aim to make to money yet you seem to constantly put down capitalists and people who want to do well from humble beginnings in life.
It always makes me chuckle that someone into high end watches and owns exotic sports cars besmirches capitalism and is a self-proclaimed socialist. But that’s standard wealthy coastal resident hypocrisy here in America 🤷♂️
really? There was 1 actual Lamborghini race car, unless your counting the GT3RS from 3 weeks ago and the Cyanman GT2RS from March of LAST YEAR. other than that 99% of the reviews haven't been race cars

So a bunch of stuff will happen in like, GTD-AM but you don't see it. It either needs to get BUSIER and go multi cam or have separate broadcasts or something. At this point I only ever have it on for background noise.
Langers Deli starts with an L.
1:40:30 not true I’m obsessed with German car, it doesn’t mean I’m not really into cars lol, everything I do in my life is for cars
MOCK TRIAL WITH J REINHOLD
I can’t be the only one who thought for a second that was Elon Musk on the thumbnail
Sports car racing much better than Nascar.
I had a square set of 305/30-19 NT01 Nittos on my 650whp Mustang along with all the other suspension goodies, those tires were horrible for street driving they don't operate correctly unless they're really hot so in the winter they're actually worse then the PS4 or 555g2 ect.. I now drive an 21 A91 edition supra, I'd like to put Ps4s on it if I don't trade it soon.
this was funny because I literally use Focals
The floor shakes. I listen on JBL monitors BTW.
Shout out to the Suzuki Swift GTi
Oh man, the slurping has been driving me crazy!, but not that crazy. I listen while on my run, with earbuds and you can hear EVERYTHING in the background. Rogan slams the shit out of his table all the time lately and it's driving me nuts!. Spike's has so much background noise it turns into white noise tbh. :D
That sweater is more of a Sea Green
Yes we do case the meats :D
Spinelli hates teal? THAT'S IT, CANCELLED.
(...after I hear the rest of HIS stories about "the well-ran Drive," haha. 🍵)
Is the video stuttering on the studio cams getting worse or is it just me?
1:15:53 in the Midwest sushi 🍣 is 20 dollars all you can eat. It’s fine. The high end Cajun place by me flys in oysters.

@@b3dazzl3 sounds like what we call the London Metroplitan Elite here in the UK
Sports car racing make for 90% of the cars reviewed by TST. What is Matt talking about? 😂
really? There was 1 actual Lamborghini race car, unless your counting the GT3RS from 3 weeks ago and the Cyanman GT2RS from March of LAST YEAR. other than that 99% of the reviews haven't been race cars
Here cause my podcast app only uploaded the last 55 minutes
Which app?

Please try not to cut off/talk over guests, it makes it really hard to understand what is said as a non-native speaker at least.
