I watched this movie maybe close to about a dozen times already. It still gets me in the end, each and every time. Pure screen magic and two of the most beautiful human beings in their prime.

I discovered this movie about 7 years ago. I was watching another movie on TCM and the movie ended and this came on. I didn't really want to invest another 2 hours into another movie so I said I'll just watch a few minutes and see what it's all about. Needless to say, I wound up watching the whole thing. One of Hollywood's best. But do yourself a favor: Don't watch this ending scene until you've seen the whole movie!

I watched this movie for the first time in 2006 or so. But watching this last scene now affects me very deeply perhaps due to same kind of experiences. Joe Bradley handled his pain quite gracefully compared to me who broke down heavily. And this is what makes this ending great. Gregory Peck had a towering personality. Audrey of course shone well in this scene considering it was her first movie. I can see easily why she won the best actress award in Oscars for her role.
Watching this movie the first time, I thought she would run back out and abdicate the throne for him...boy, was I disappointed... What a great entertaining movie...
I watched this for the first time with my mom in her room. I loved it so much, but when it got to this ending, I just kept staring at the place where she left and listening to the footsteps, CONVINCED she was going to run out after him at any moment, or SOMETHING. And then "The End" came up, and I just screamed " *WHAT?!* " and almost flipped off the bed. My mom looked at me and said "Wait, you didn't know that happened?" "NO! I DIDN'T!" This ending is perfect and heartbreaking, really making this a classic. But BOY was I upset.
EthalaRide. Yup. My reaction exactly the first time I saw it......when it was released in 1954 - made in 1953, Coronation Year of our lovely young Queen Elizabeth. Made specially to celebrate the occasion, tho nothing to do with the Royal Family of course! But, we all said “This is what Princess Margaret would do!” And of course this absolutely FABULOUS dress and hat in this scene. SO very Princess Margaret AND The Queen. Even I had a hat exactly like this! Aged 14, for church. Also the wonderful evening dress and Tiara at the beginning where she loses her shoe under its hem......again, EXACTLY like Princess Margaret and The Queen wore.
I was like the same. But now as an adult I really love the end of the film. Most of us do not get our happy end with a partner. Life is not a happy Hollywood film.
The bittersweet moment where both knows that they have a love for each other but sadly they cannot commence such thing in public since he is only a commoner and she is a royalty. I saw this movie once in my Art Class and it really amazed me how the actors especially Audrey Hepburn portrayed such role with beauty and grace just like how one princess acts.
Roman Holiday inspired many film makers of this sub continent to produce films in different languages partially based on its story. Most of such films were successful and audience liked those. Thanx for presenting this video. It's a matter of great pleasure to see Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn in their youth.
The story is while they were fliming, Peck called his agent and said "Audrey has to have co-billing with me." His agent said "are you out of your mind? She's an unknown." Peck insisted, saying she won't be and of course he was right. It's not just her stunning beauty, her acting was superb from the start. She was already A list. Fantastic flim. It's a heart wrenching scene. The last time they will be seeing each other fully aware of one's love for other. Yes, they will meet no longer but live with their memories.
Im a hopeless romantic at heart and this particular scene with the Legendary, very distinctive and unique Gregory Peck and The Elegant and EXTRAORDINARILY lovely Ms. Hepburn, illustrates why the old era actors were in a class by themselves. Black and white films 🎥 resonated and still do to this day , on a deep level of human emotion. This scene needed very few words because the human heart expressed Itself more than words could ever say, in the EYES. This scene is difficult to watch because true love between a man and woman is a once in a lifetime gift. To see that life altering experience ultimately be thwarted by outward circumstances is absurdly cruel and unfair. The Gregory Peck character as he took that walk when she turned and left was undoubtedly the longest walk ever. A real heart breaker 💔 of a scene and too bitter sweet to absorb.

Im a hopeless romantic at heart and this particular scene with the Legendary, very distinctive and unique Gregory Peck and The Elegant and EXTRAORDINARILY lovely Ms. Hepburn, illustrates why the old era actors were in a class by themselves.
Black and white films 🎥 resonated and still do to this day , on a deep level of human emotion. This scene needed very few words because the human heart expressed Itself more than words could ever say, in the EYES.
This scene is difficult to watch because true love between a man and woman is a once in a lifetime gift. To see that life altering experience ultimately be thwarted by outward circumstances is absurdly cruel and unfair.
The Gregory Peck character as he took that walk when she turned and left was undoubtedly the longest walk ever.
