      With SS you are even married or not. Doesn't matter if living separate. You'll need to talk to SS to see which direction would be the largest check.

      Idk who told you that but thats incorrect. SSI doesn't count one vehicle and one home. A second vehicle or a secondary home would be counted.
      One of four things. They are either counting someone else's income in your home, or they are reducing your check saying you aren't paying your fair share (like if someone pays for your food which that law has changed or will be changing) or they are reducing it for an overpayment. Or if you have another source of income they would reduce SSI.
      You should call SSA and get answers.
      If it was SSA that told you that please keep in mind it takes two years for those agents to learn their job thoroughly and they are having an extremely difficult time keeping people.
      One other possibility they could have some confusion over the mortgage being paid and someone documented somewhere you was getting assistance with housing and again the agent didn't understand what was wrong. I've had agents in the past give plenty of inaccurate information.
      You can do a Google search. Owning or buying a house doesn't count against you unless it's a vacation or rental (in which case you'd be disqualified from SSI)
      Twenty years ago I had an agent tell me if I work failed i'd be homeless. Which was completely inaccurate I was on section 8 and dual benefits (SSI and SSDI)
      Please reach out to SS and see why your payment is being reduced and what you need to do to have it reinstated. No one should be forced to live like that.
      If you own your own house can you rent out a room to help you cover taxes, insurance and utilities? It could be helpful.
      Good luck. I hope your situation gets better.

    After a 15 year childless marriage, I paid Permanent Alimony for ten years. Then being unemployed since 2010, started collecting SS in 2016. Taken back to court, I've been ordered to pay 65% until death. No one can believe this is possible. Divorced in Palm Beach Florida, living in Florida, is this even legal? Living on only 35% of SS is devastating, and caused my latest spouse of 22 years to take her life.

    What? I would like to know and social security has never ever been. Able to tell me is what if your ex. Husband works for the government public defender's office and they get a pension. Do they still get social security? Am I? Entitled to that or at least 50% of that, and how do I find out how much it would be? Thank you

    Dr Ed, I'm 86, started benefits at 62, back to work at 64 for 18 months. Became 95% disabled at 77, completely disabled at 81. Never received any disability benefits. Are any disability benefits available to me now? I don't live in the USA. Thanks, David

    Great information, I'm 62 and disabled I haven't worked a full time job since 2008, not sure if I should file for disability or retirement. I do have enough credits from my full time job. Any suggestions would be great.

    • @MyGovExpert
      @MyGovExpert  8 месяцев назад +5

      You can file for retirement and disability at 62 at the same time. However, for disability, you also have to be currently insured, which means you had to work and pay into Social Security five out of the last ten years.

    • @MsLilBit8344
      @MsLilBit8344 7 месяцев назад +1

      Don't wait on filing for disability. On disability work credits expire.
      You definitely should apply for disability. Taking early retirement is reduced. Disability would not be reduced.

    I am new to disability and I’m 60 years old. I’m also new to your channel so far. I love it because I’m very ignorant about these benefits I work two and three jobs. , All my life can’t even afford a divorce and I’ve gotta get one so I can think about my 1st spouse once he turns 62. But can you please elaborate on part D penalty for Medicare? Be very specific like what are the fees I don’t get much at all on disability, and I did work hard all my life I had to have 2 to 3 jobs just to make it. Thank you very much….

    New Sub Here, enjoying what I'm seeing. Excellent show! I will be checking out more of your video's. Thank you for what you do here on your channel. I found you while researching SSI options. I'm at a crossroads and would like to go back to part time self employment. Is the ticket to work program the way to go? I do still have medically disabling factors, but I'm tired of sitting around and not being a contributing human on this planet. I feel I could at least put in a few hours a day and be okay health wise. I mean I won't know until I try, correct? I just can't lose my medical benefits. Among other things, I am a two heart attack survivor and will be on medication for the rest of my life. Again, thank you for what you do here and your time. Oh and yes to the male pattern baldness cure!🤣

Or, you can call your Area Work Incentives Coordinator at your local office...they can help too. ...hopefully your new work will be looking for that cure! lol

      Yes, but if you get a Medicare Advantage plan, Part D is usually bundled together. If you get a Medicare Supplement plan, then you have to get Medicare Part D separately. If you want, let me know, and I can have someone call you about a month or two before you start and get you all set up.

    Hey Ed, these ads that talk of a cash allowance debit card for folks 65 or older that supposedly is from medicare, but kept "secret" that by filling out a 2 or 3 question form online, is this a phising scamm? I called Medicare and was informed that they are unaware of such an additional allowance.
    If this is a scamm,, they are targeting an already desperate income dependant populace.
    You might do a video on this as well.

    Ed, it’s mind boggling. I was married 10+ years, am 71, ex-husband still alive, BUT he says he never paid into social security because he didn’t trust the government. Yet he worked for the schools as a janitor and for an army depot, plus is a veteran. I don’t think he gets any benefits. I did not work while I was married to him. But after the divorce I began working and am now retired and receiving social security.
    Can’t he collect on my benefits?

    Hello,
    Dr. Ed Weir, thank you very much for all the information on SS.
    Ever since I’ve discovered your channel, I am learning so much. However, I have “ridiculous” questions, please.
    1) How do I calculate the length of marriage?
    I got married in Nov. 1974 and received the Final for the divorce in April 1985.
    I’d never submit an application for the spousal benefit till this day when I am approaching 76!
    2) Is it too late to ask for it?
    Thank you!
