      With SS you are even married or not. Doesn't matter if living separate. You'll need to talk to SS to see which direction would be the largest check.

    My complaint is that the cap is way too low! Well below living standards.
    20k is ridiculous, to stay in step with cola and inflation is should be 100k so seniors can actually survive.

      Idk who told you that but thats incorrect. SSI doesn't count one vehicle and one home. A second vehicle or a secondary home would be counted.
      One of four things. They are either counting someone else's income in your home, or they are reducing your check saying you aren't paying your fair share (like if someone pays for your food which that law has changed or will be changing) or they are reducing it for an overpayment. Or if you have another source of income they would reduce SSI.
      You should call SSA and get answers.
      If it was SSA that told you that please keep in mind it takes two years for those agents to learn their job thoroughly and they are having an extremely difficult time keeping people.
      One other possibility they could have some confusion over the mortgage being paid and someone documented somewhere you was getting assistance with housing and again the agent didn't understand what was wrong. I've had agents in the past give plenty of inaccurate information.
      You can do a Google search. Owning or buying a house doesn't count against you unless it's a vacation or rental (in which case you'd be disqualified from SSI)
      Twenty years ago I had an agent tell me if I work failed i'd be homeless. Which was completely inaccurate I was on section 8 and dual benefits (SSI and SSDI)
      Please reach out to SS and see why your payment is being reduced and what you need to do to have it reinstated. No one should be forced to live like that.
      If you own your own house can you rent out a room to help you cover taxes, insurance and utilities? It could be helpful.
      Good luck. I hope your situation gets better.

      That is correct, you aren't required to file when receiving SSI. If you have any possible deductibles, I would file, though. Also, if you pay rent and are Disabled or 65 and older and receive State benefits, and you don't already take advantage of Rent rebates, you can file that too.

I work online, where my income is enough to live on, so I think of my SS as an investment earning 8 percent interest per year. I fully enjoy the SSA online site. Hi, and thanks so much for your valuable videos. I have passed them along to all my family & friends. Questions: I’m currently a 65 yrs old divorced female and have been collecting my regular SS benefits since I turned 62. When I signed up, I didn’t remember if I had been married over 10yrs, so I said no. My ex-spouse (he’s ex Army, too) and I have not been in contact w/each other over 3 decades. I no longer have our marriage or divorce papers.
    1)Can you help me determine if I was married over 10 yrs.?
    2)If, I’ve been collecting the correct SS?
    3)If, my ex-husband is still alive? Thanks!🙇🏽‍♀️

    After a 15 year childless marriage, I paid Permanent Alimony for ten years. Then being unemployed since 2010, started collecting SS in 2016. Taken back to court, I've been ordered to pay 65% until death. No one can believe this is possible. Divorced in Palm Beach Florida, living in Florida, is this even legal? Living on only 35% of SS is devastating, and caused my latest spouse of 22 years to take her life.

      Don't wait on filing for disability. On disability work credits expire.
      You definitely should apply for disability. Taking early retirement is reduced. Disability would not be reduced.

    • @MyGovExpert
      @MyGovExpert  2 месяца назад

      I can see the only cancel one time part. But what they said about losing benefits for life makes no sense. If they won't let you cancel a second time, then you can't. But that is an application withdrawal. You can suspend your benefits by reporting your earnings, and they will just hold back one dollar for every two you go over.

    My daughter was on ss up until she was 19 from her dad, but when she turned 22 it went in her name. She got married in 2010 thought she has sent them a record of it. In 2018 then got a hold of her n told her that they had over paid $40,000 from 2010-2018. Now.in May or June of this year They said well you owe 50,000. They were going to set up payment plan to take $77.00 a month out of her ssi now they never took anything out until June of 2024. Why did they wait 6 years. He was kinda hateful to her. Im new to your channel. The information seem very important to get. I'm a more resent widow of 43 years. My husband and i only just got social security. He passed away at the same year he was to retire. Very unexpectedly. I survived barely. Im now struggling to make ends meet and have nobody at all for help with my social security and was forced to sell my almost paid off dream home we built. Now just surviving on my husband's social security check. No way to be able to hire an attorney to get maybe his 401k or other benefits. He was with a government contractor of NASA for 32 years. Im stuck! No where to turn and now im physically disabled. My husband was military when we met. He got out in 1979.
    Do you think anyone at the social security office would advise me as where to turn?
    Desperately seeking help anywhere!

    Yeah, my ex barely paid any FICA because he put nearly everything he made into retirement and lived off his girlfriend’s salary - as he did mine when we were married. As an LLC, he hardly paid any taxes and barely paid himself thru his LLC. He made at least 80k per year but his social security check is $999. He is probably half a millionaire by now.

    How can she get disability money

    • @MsLilBit8344
      @MsLilBit8344 3 месяца назад

      She would only qualify for SSI not SSDI and that's only if your income is also low and you have little assets. SSI is means tested.
      On SSDI To claim Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), you must meet medical requirements and have paid into the Social Security system and accrued sufficient Social Security credits. Twenty wouldn't be enough at age 60. If you do not qualify based on your own earnings history, you cannot claim disability benefits on a spouse's record
      If she doesn't meet those guidelines her only option may be to wait and file for social security retirement.
      Contact SSA and they will have more specific information on guidelines v
