I suggest to do a search if there is a ham radio club near you. Almost all clubs do a meeting every month and you do not have to be a member. Some clubs have classes and they also give the ham radio test. Also if you have a scanner you can scan two meters and 440 meters if you can hear traffic from your local ham radio operators.
