FUN FACT: James seemed so concerned with stepping on our toes, he virtually asked permission to do this episode in an email exchange with me, which is ridiculous! A more gracious dude in the industry you will rarely meet. Keep up the AWESOME James! -Fraser
Who the fuck are you?
George Aveline Fraser Agar.
Who the fuck is that?
OmikronWeapon The guy who made Awesome Video Games, which was mentioned in the video..
What the fuck is a video?
"the nerd is something I can never give up"
Put tears into my eyes.
"the nerd is such a big part of my life, i could never give it up, i love it."
I smiled and said yessss out loud, lol
He is a big part of my life too
"Affirmative your AAAASSSS- let's play." That always makes me laugh. I love how much thought and care he puts into these videos.
James, I love hearing these commentary tracks.
It shows me how much love and care you put into your videos and It's so inspiring to watch.
You make me a better RUclips reviewer man, no joke.
Thanks for everything. :)
YOU'RE ALIVE
Sean McAwsome gooby plz?
So many people could learn from this sort of video.
In my personal experience, guitar 'tutorials' in which people for instance go downstairs for five minutes to get something vital, or "one second guys, my mom's calling me".
Get it beforehand! Maybe pauze the recording? Edit the video before posting it?
Watching things with fairly good production like AVGN can make it appear to some that it's quite easy to do with just a shitty camera and zero planning.
This video, and the 'making of an AVGN episode' even moreso I believe, are excellent for showing what does and SHOULD go into making even a half decent video.
This is amazing, you're an inspiration James, don't ever stop doing what you do buddy!
I'm so glad you decided to continue beyond episode 100.
If you had "Rob the Robot " as your last episode, we wouldn't have gems like the "Dark Castle" and "Ikari warriors" episodes.
A-B-B-A
Where did their hair go?
Maybe they are in... C...D... IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII !!!!!!
BIG MOTHER FUCKIN RIGS
Best AVGN ep. in a long time.
*****
Nah. Tiger Games episode is awesome.
***** No
***** can we all just say that all AVGN episodes are FUCKIN' AWESOME
Mauricio Boites Thats funny... welcome to THE INTERNET! where its all debates :)
James Rolfe is a hero of mine, he's changed and influenced my life from teen to man. what a great creator paying homage to classic cinema as well as adding pieces of himself, and most of the time on his own! cannot thank him enough...
How much do you curse? :D
Agreed
I hope you guys never quit making episodes. I've been watching for seven years. I'd be more than happy to get them more infrequently if I get to watch for another seven plus years.
I went "awww" when he explained that he originally planned there to be a miniature town and cardboard ROB. Great episode, but - damn.
Was the Rob episode really in 2011? Damn, it feels like yesterday it came out for the first time. I must have been watching since something like the 30th episode and here's to a ton more (plus the movie to look forward to!)
Timothy Y. Oh my gosh I made this comment five years ago feels like yesterday
Nerd, I think I speak for everyone when I say you're winner
I went into the video just planning to sorta check it out before moving onto other things since I don't usually like commentary tracks, but damn I just couldn't click away before it was over. James has a talent for making anything entertaining, and it's really cool hearing how much thought and effort goes into his work.
James Fucking Rolfe is my hero.
I always felt that this the best Nerd episode James ever made. Nice to hear him agree on it :D
Hi!!!
Loved hearing you praise VGA for their old work, I love their old parody stuff.
I'm glad the Nerd is still a character you hold dear to yourself. It'll be a sad day when he just stops his reviews, he's inspired so many others with their own channels.
***** "(He's a troll because he doesn't like Fallout Equestria.)" Not everyone has to be a brony
I couldn't imagine RUclips without the nerd, it's because of the nerd that I started watching RUclips on a daily basis. All your video's have been awesome from the very first Castlevania 2 Simon's Quest episode, seeing you go back to your childhood to play all these shitty games got me back into retro gaming.
You really were the first in a long lineup of RUclips gaming channels and it's because of you James that there is so many nowadays keep up the great work your doing and I can't wait for the AVGN Movie.
Long live the nerd really enjoyed this episode commentary and would love to see you do a few other episodes commentaries.
Please, never stop. We need you to entertain us with your beer and reviews!
Someone needs to dress up as a giant Rob and surprise James at some convention ^_^
I love the part about the Gyro in this episode.
"Insuffcient Gyros."
"What, you want a fucking Gyro now?!"
* goes to the kitchen *
^_^
god i hope to see at least 100 or 200 more episodes of the nerd cause they are pure genius.
We appreciate all your hard work and dedication James, what's done is done. Now you can relax knowing that your creations will be on RUclips, continuing to be watched.
Honestly, James is awesome. He made this video all by himself, it's incredible.
Wow you shot this whole episode by yourself? That is really impressive and shows just how much dedication you have for the series. I have always held a lot of respect for you and this commentary just reinforces that sentiment.
Yeah, I remember me being suprised about how good this episode was, laughed my ass off and was really impressed with the share amount of efford put in to this.
James, do not even try to think about eventual finishing AVGN! without you youtube and whole Internet would be poorer
He actually was the one who introduced ALOT of people to online videos.
The Internet would be bad without him :)
Can't wait for another AVGN episode :3
Yeah the last one wasn't angry enough lol. Still fun tho
Still waiting?
That was a very insightful commentary on a very fun and amazing episode. One of my favorites, too! I think I speak for everyone (at least most everyone) when I say thanks for all the great memories and fun episodes, and I hope for many more in the future! Long live the Angry Video Game Nerd!
James sounds really tired of late. There's no doubt these videos took their toll on him, and still do. I'd actually be interested in hearing more of what sort of sacrifices he actually made to put these out, because putting 100+ hours into the making of a single video every month for years on end is by no means an easy thing to achieve.
Great job and glad you kept going man, your videos are one of the greatest
I like how at the end of the episodes the Nerd hugs the games like they were the most precious posetion on Earth, no matter how shitty they are.
***** 89 cents?
My favorite episode. It's funny how cool R.O.B. is in SSBB but not so cool here.
Lol this is why he's not in super smash bros 4
In the F-Zero stage in Brawl(Port Town Aero Drive) there is a giant R.O.B statue in the background. It even has creepy red eyes.
Russell Kostal He's an actual non-DLC character.
Definition of an Epic Episode :) Wow.. I've got to look at your archive from the beginning now
I don't understand, why did the makers of R.O.B decide to use these spinning gyros or whatever instead of just using something heavy enough to push the button down? It would have been 23-048320948193275-43198758943759432 times more functional.
The ROB the Robot Episode was my first AVGN Vid that I watched!
play Gyromite with Mike next Monday!
Great idea
@@downscale 5 years now and I'm still optimistic
5 years later your wish has come true :)
@@Cursingbow Optimism worked all along. *HURRAY*
These kind of videos makes me really appreciate all the work you put in to entertain us. Ive been watching your youtube channel since it started in 2006-2007 and you have made a huge impact on my life. I am 22 now and going to school for game design. You have honestly inspired me that average people can make wonderful things. I really want to thank you james, if you can read this, thank you for helping me through some tough times in my life and always making me smile.
Thank you for AVGN episodes James I'm in a game design class and the AVGN episodes help me learn what not to do when making videogames.
This is one of my faves. Keep going James. It's crazy, I subbed you in 2006!!! Time flies!
It will always be weird hearing you talk like a normal person.
10:13 I was that friend back as a kid...it was a sad time.
Great commentary and showing love for AVG. The rob dance with Ace, Chet and dad is awesome.
James Rolfe is amazing.
even the word "awesome"doesnt describe how good this is
the AVGN would've stopped after ROB if it wasnt for the fans, as i see it
see people? the ones who donated (and maybe the ones who just watch AVGN and suggest stuff to let james do) made the AVGN this popular...... and as great as he is now :D
i hope to see some more AVGN again anytime soon
just dont let your kid watch it james, haha
OH MY GOD THEY'RE DOING COMMENTARY ON AVGN EPISODES NOW YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!
Love it James!!
I would have to agree with that being the best Nerd episode. You really did a nice job on it
I love these commentaries, Really gives some insight into what it takes to make a video like this.
I love the fact that there's a gamecube controller in this. That is my all time favorite system, and also the first one I ever played on.
So glad you didnt stop there, ur latest episode big rigs shows theres still so much you can do, stay angry nerd!
I really love the idea of a commentary, like getting inside the mind of the genius himself! Keep it up brother!
It was one of the best episode man, even the ending I thought it was perfect :D
You're the best James. Mike I did not forget you, you rock !
And now he's made 100 more episodes since. No joke.
I wouldn't be surprised if he ever got to *300* episodes before the show ended! 🤓
That part where the Nerd "died" is sad, it felt like it was the end :(
Angry Video Game Nerd is my all time favourite internet video series. I'd be proud to meet you in person one of these days.
I have to say I really like the title cards. They were extremely well made and intricate.
Defiently best nerd episode. Allthoghthe recent episodes were not as good as expected, the one about big Rigs was so good.keep it going man!
my favorite quote in the whole "ROB" episode is when rob says "No more barf inducing graphics"
He deserves much more subscribers, likes and views.
Yeah he's the best RUclipsr ever. He puts so much effort on his videos.
I wish there were more AVG episodes, I loved the feel of that show. It was like they were reading my childhood memories.
James, the video is... um... I never thought you shot it all alone, really. You're great.
I absolutely love these commentaries! I have such admiration for video/movie makers after I hear the hard work that went into these video. Please James, make more commentaries man! I love 'em!
Sometimes it's easy to take for granted the hours of work that go into a 20 minute Nerd episode so it's great of you to release the commentary here so we can begin to get a sense of your achievement and appreciate what's involved in the whole process of making videos. To say thank you once in a while to you James, for now far more than 100 episodes of entertainment and other videos too, is the least I and all us viewers and fans should do.
We love the Nerd big time as well. You can do more videos on PlayStation games or others too, and I bet it will still be hilarious and popular.
Thanks james for keeping going i mean, its been a pleasure to see every release
:D
Hey James, as a newer fan it has been really fun and informative watching through your videos and seeing how your style has progressed over the years. I admire your meticulousness! I'm especially impressed that you shot this video all by your lonesome. Looking forward to more reviews and commentaries from you. Thanks for the great vids!
All the technicalities explained in this video really made me admire your dedication. Your endearing comments looking back on things is something I treasure and I bet your older self will be glad you did this too. I'm glad you kept going James. Being so true to yourself like you are in your career is something I dream about everyday. Maybe someday I'll have the courage to turn my deepest passion into some kind of immortalized artwork like you did with AVGN.
James taking a logic dive about R.O.B and outtakes including Gyromite/Stack-up
I got this game before watching this episode, really. I pretty much got it because it was cheap. I did use the one controller per hand thing after finding this episode, as it didn't come with the ROB. Then got my brother to play it with me, and it was actually pretty fun.
Always love these Commentary vids its great to hear you talk about your process and how you approach making these awesome vids.
I miss the AVGN videos :( the James and Mike play videos are good but the original videos were much better in my opinion. Would you consider doing them again?
***** AVGN videos, my ass... hell, where's the ANGER? it's ANGRY video game nerd, i expect to see a guy that's PISSED OFF, like the old episodes... how angry was James on Big Rigs for example? it was a really funny episode, don't get me wrong, but i excpected something more intense than that...
Like @MrNightmareBird2 is saying, plus James are working on the AVGN Movie :)!
Looking forward to see the movie ^^
Manectric7 did you watch the video? It wasn't a bad game, it wasn't hard, there were no respawning enemies, etc...what's there to get mad about? The game sucked because it was poorly designed.
Hermaeus Mora the game sucked = it's a bad game, get over it. plus i'm not talking for big rigs only, i'm talking generally. Compare the anger he had on ''Batman forever'' to Tiger games, for example. He's not frustrated anymore, seems like he is just a ''Video game nerd''
Episode are keep coming, but yeah, they are not as good as older ones, but i think its because James is putting all his effort, jokes and work in the movie, and after 120 episode or so hes dryed out a bit
I like that as he admitted he considered ending the series with this episode and saying "Nah", at the same time the Nerd doesn't give up and awakens.
I forgot how brilliant this episode is. Knowing how much of it was done by James himself makes it all the more impressive!
glad you did this solo, i like mike in small doses but nothing beats the james/fan connection you get when it's just you and us
long live the nerd!
NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRD!
ROB was ambitious for its time. Had a lot of potential. Probably would've been better for light-gun shooter games or cockpit jet fighter sim-type games as a guided missile lock thingy. Cool accessory. Wish they did more with it.
Yeah, the AVGN is part of internet culture. He's very important! Keep up the good work James!
Loved hearing your thoughts on your own work and behind this possibly being the end of the show. I've been watching this for years now and I think that for all you've done, that whenever you decide the end it that none of us will look back and blame you or scorn you for it.
Hoping the best on your work and future :)
Thank you for keeping The Fuckin Nerd going. Its been a major part of my life.
Long live the nerd!
love ya, man... just, all the love in the world for you making me remember my video games day, when I was something like 8 years old and going to play at a friend's house.
Was pretty cool just to hear you talk about one of your own episodes :D And i love this episode, with the strings and the stop-motion and all :)
Rob kinda looks like Wall.E they have the same head shape, the same eyes, and the same body type I guess Disney's Pixar have probably played games back in the 80s and Rob was their favorite so I guess they wanted to make a movie about the game they remember playing back in their high school years.
Your work is as your episodes are : fantastic. I would been sad if the 100th was the last one but it would have been a great way to end the story ! Stay awesome, keep going. We're all part of the Nerd's Fan Club ! :)
Congratulations James you're our hero! Thanks a lot for all this effort and please don't ever stop the nerd!
Its great to see behind the scenes, but I'm pleased you've continued making episodes. I think the Nerd speak to so many of us because we see ourselves in his frustration and anger. However for me as a UK gammer, this episode really brought it home when he cuts up the controller because we had a huge consul modding scene here. For whatever reason, games in the US were often realised months in advance of the UK and some not released at all, so the only way we could play them was on import. But on the SNES, we actually got the Super Famicom albeit with a different region chip, thus could not use US games without cutting up the consul, So this brought back memories of dogged determination.
I makes my heart warm to know how James really appreciate the art of miniature cities and giant monsters in suits~
AVG mentioned on AVGN :D
Really happy you didn't quit, keep up the good work James!
For me, the cinematics & watching the Nerd's wordless expressions make the whole thing complete. Easy to appreciate even more how much thought and work go into these. Keep doing what you're doing and keep cranking that Zep! (Oh yeah, the new remasters for I, II & III are said to be released in June - BALLS YES!)
Wow. The attention to detail and subtle symbolism is astounding, especially the episodes bookend with Simon's Quest which i completely overlooked the first time i watched it. Pretty impressive.
I also love the cinematics with James trying to figure out how to play the game.
Thank you for keeping the videos coming out! We still love your videos!
Actually I thought that episode was really good. You went beyond what most people have done on RUclips.
Props for giving Awesome Video Games a shout-out here! The first video of that series dates from 2007 yet has less than half the views of this video. There's no injustice there, AVGN is great and arguably the greatest, but Awesome Video Games is one of the more creative and funny twists on video game web series and totally deserves more attention!
And thanks for doing what you do, James. You are a filmmaker through and through and I always loved hearing from someone as creative and passionate as you.
James Rolfe for president ! imagine James sitting in the oval office :D
Always thought this was your best episode ever. Will never get tired of it!
I can't wait until James is finished with the movie that way he can direct his energy solely towards the AVGN episodes. I'd love to see more episodes like this.
As long as you make videos your fans will always support you. Long live the NERD!
