Good Job Moose -- I luv my Profoto flashes and strobes and how all the colour match and are consistent all day long. Sure these are not cheap. The A1 was a revelation, the A1X more so and now the A10 - even better. All provide the same 78 Watt Seconds out, but each new generation has better technology and connectivity. All work with the Connect Pro Nikon and Air Remote TTL-N and work along side my B10x plus heads in studio. So I can use them with either my Nikon Z9 or my Hasselblad X2D-100C. Anyone buying an A1, A1X or A10 should also buy an additional battery. Great click modifiers as well.
Looks like a sweet flash rig setup Moose, thanks for this vid!! Would that size RRS bracket 87b work well with the Nikon 500 pf tele lens ?? figure you must have that lens too(??) have you used it with your Z series body & same bracket setup? thanks for any reply
Great question! Yeah, I think the 87-B would work great with the 500PF. I do not have the 500PF but its a bit smaller as the Z400f4.5. I shot with someone who shot with a 500PF and he had the whole 360 version of the 87-B.
@@MoosePeterson thank you for your reply Moose 🙏🏼 i will check out ebay for this flash mount bracket - love how that little kiss of light brings out the texture & color(s) more 👌🏼
Thank you for your video. I have just purchase 2 x A10 last week, and i am facing a focus problem. The focus of the flash wont go to wide whether i adjusted the ring of the flash or adjust in the manual. It only goes to half a circle the widest. Any idea why? thx in advance
thanks for watching! I regret I've not seen that issue. Are you running the most current firmware? As you finding this issue with the flash NOT in a hot shoe? ProFoto has an excellent tech support, if I can't help you they can. Sorry to hear you're having issues.
I already have flashpoint or godox v1. Pretty sure it will do the same as the profoto. I have never used flash for birds, yet lots of people photography using fill flash and a custom brackets flash swivel. Gets that flash higher and you can easily go from landscape to portrait. I like that brackets you have for longer lenses.
Excellent review and information Moose, thank you. Question: For you, how does the A10 perform at 25/30/50 feet for example, (also when using your 600mm). Is its narrow beam setting at 105 still sufficient to provide some of those highlights? This flash has my interest for sure, especially if I dont have to use a better beamer to milk out a little more focused power.
Hello from New York City! Which white balance setting should be used when using your unique fill-flash-for-color technique? Thank you for your informative video.
thanks for watching, great question. WB all depends on the light falling on the scene so there is no one answer. You might start with A1 and adapt from there.
Moose, in your video you referenced a 20 foot distance for the subject and the associated flash settngs for that distance. Considering the inverse square law and that you are shooting with flash for color and not exposure, what is the maximum distance that you can use the Profoto A10?
I just bought a profoto A10 and I don't know what's going on because I was at a wedding and out of nowhere it didn't flash anymore. the model light does work but I don't know what happened because it doesn't flash. Could it be that there is something I did to it that I have to check or was my flash damaged? Could you help me please?
Are you able to use 10-20 fps with this flash at around 1/3200 sec using HSS (in manual or ttl mode) ? I tried few flashes with external battery packs and I could not solve that problem. There were always some frames where I see flash not firing.
No, it does not have an internal battery ... in fact, it must be disconnected to charge. The power system blows away AA system! As per hypersync, that's not accurate either. As stated in the video, it works with HSC automatically. Otherwise, you nailed it :-)
I just bought the flash bracket on EBay!
I’ve learned something from this video… Thanks!

I recommend if you're interested, you rent one first to see if it fits your needs and requirements.
Thanks!
Hmm, an excellent video, but whooo, that flash ain't cheap.

Sorry, I don't have enough info to help as there are many, many possibilities.
75 mega watts lol! I think you mean watt-seconds (W-s) or Joules .
Have you an opinion about the use of flash causing birds to fly away from the area? Are they spooked by a flash setup? Great video. Thanks.
I do and even have a video posted here on my RUclips channel that will fully answer your question :-)

I have shot @20FPS but not at 1/3200 but @1/500 ... I don't raise my ISO that high to get that kinda shutter speed when using flash.
@@MoosePeterson Thank you.
what flash bracket are you using Moose in this video?
Common and great question! The very old Really Right Stuff 84B ... you can rarely find them on eBay, they are no longer produced.
Can you comment on if/how this works on the Z8 with all functions and autofocus?
Z 8 & Z 9 both operate the same in these regards, no difference. AF, as in does the A10 have a light for AF operation in the dark? It does not.
Where do u buy the flash mount
as I say in the video, it's long discontinued, sadly, there is no place to buy one except, maybe eBay
Which eyecup are you using on the Z9?
all answers are on my website www.moosepeterson.com/blog/z-9-eyecup-the-search-ends/ :-)
hey moose, if you are going to do a "men_in_black" de-neuralizer stunt ( at 1:01).....you need the black glasses on first!!!
What is the unit on the hot shoe?
I strongly urge you to watch the whole video ... that is explained in depth :-)
Unfortunatly it has internal battery and unit is not powerfull enough for any kind of hypersync flash.
No, it does not have an internal battery ... in fact, it must be disconnected to charge. The power system blows away AA system! As per hypersync, that's not accurate either. As stated in the video, it works with HSC automatically. Otherwise, you nailed it :-)
