    For more classic Alan Murphy, check out my video looking at his solo on Level 42’s “Heaven In My Hands’ here: ruclips.net/video/Na0RutYixEk/видео.html

    Brilliant - thank you for that. I'm so gutted Alan Murphy has left us. I saw him in '88 with Level 42. Such a sad loss at only 35 years old. Decades of music we missed out on. But lovely to see his work is still being studied and enjoyed here.

    Hi Pete,
    Really enjoyed this breakdown, you really should cover the next part of the solo where Alan does that really nice run back up the fretboard
    He's one of my top 5 all time players, so really pleased to see his stuff still being covered

    • @PeteCallard
      @PeteCallard  Год назад +1

      Thanks Tony, he’s a wonderful player, one of my favourites too. That section of his live solo jumped out for me so I thought it would be interesting to look at. I might cover the whole solo from the record at some point, although it’s been done elsewhere already

    Thanks for the video! I remember the first time I saw Alan play this solo and I couldn't believe my eyes and ears. Especially the latter part of the solo where he's just shredding like crazy. Any idea what scale he's playing in that part? Whatever it is, I doubt that my fingers could ever reach that speed, haha.

      Thanks for your message - re the end of the solo, I’d need to have a listen again, but on the record it’s an E minor run

    Must admit Pete I thought Alan's guitar playing was pretty good and his session work was pretty amazing and when you think about it there was a lot of Eddie Van Halen clones during that time but Alan's playing just sounded really fluid and original even though it had the undertones of Alan Holdsworth. All my best wishes 😎😎😎😎😎😎

    Very, very tasty solo. Alan was a great guitar player, and always had a nod to the other Allan (Holdsworth that is). Great lesson Pete. RIP Alan and Allan.
