Really great content, Pete. Watching your DAW recording audio zoomed in behind you is analogous to how my brain feels with all the analysis coming at me!
The ii V I in Ab lines over for the ii V I changes in Db makes a lot of sense, if he's doing like what Larry Carlton does, in playing triad notes from the V chord over the I chord. Never thought of it that way, and what a cool sound!
Mr. Pat Martino was 77 when he died Nov. 1, 2021, in Philadelphia, at the same rowhouse where he had spent part of his childhood. The cause was a chronic respiratory disorder. The master is now at rest.
Thanks man! I guess my arm is resting on the top of the body, and the bottom of the palm brushes/ mutes the strings. I also sometimes use my picking hand fingers
@@PeteCallard Your technique is great! I've seen a few players use only the arm on the guitar body, with just the pick contacting the strings, and a completely floating right hand. It's pretty difficult, but seems really freeing if mastered.
Thank you, this has always been my favorite solo from pat but looking at the transcriptions always confused me a bit; I’m still trying to get the hang of non diatonic tones in jazz
I just happened to stumble on your videos when looking for a Scott Henderson track. Serendipity I suppose, because it’s really nice to see/hear you again.
Of course it’s entirely possible that some of the unusual note choices are actually mistakes! No one seems to consider this option. Believe me, even Pat Martino played made occasional mistakes but at his level he could move on without it stopping the flow.
Great job Pete. 2 friends of mine used to travel down to Philly from NYC to take lessons with Pat....
Thanks very much Pete! I’m very jealous, he’s an amazing player…

😂 Thanks Andy - I never intend to have that zoomed in, but always discover too late that I’ve forgotten again!

It is a cool sound isn’t it - I’d be fascinated to know whether it’s intentional or he forgot the changes, but either way it works
Pete you are the fucking man. Nice playing and nice studio setup you got going!
Thanks very much! Much appreciated
Very good lesson.
Thanks very much!
Man alive, that was complicated 😃What a great melodic line though, and a great explanation 👍
That’s the problem with jazz…😆 Thanks Al Just Al, much appreciated
👏🎸👍31,very well done thanks for sharing Greetings
Thanks very much! Greetings to you too

really really great analysis man!
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it!
Très bien mon ami
Merci beaucoup!
hi Pete, really nice lesson!
I have a question for you.. is tour right hand technique alternate picking or economy picking?
Thanks man! I think it’s a mixture of both
Great stuff! With your picking hand, is anything besides the pick making contact with the guitar?

Thanks very much! That’s a good approach, although tricky to crop unwanted strings ringing out on distorted sounds
Thank you for your great content. Is your Gibson a newer model 175? Beautiful jazz tones.
Thanks very much Chris! It’s a 1991, which feels newer, but I guess it’s 30 this year
good job!
Thanks very much!
Nice playing. Say, your ES 175 matches the tuning pegs. Beautiful, custom? ;)
Thanks very much! It was bright white when I first got it, but has yellowed over time
Why does the c melodic minor work over a c-7? Doesn’t the flat 7 clash with the major 7?
It does clash, but not in a serious way (eg like a major 3rd on a minor chord), and those sort of dissonant sounds are part of the language of jazz
Thank you, this has always been my favorite solo from pat but looking at the transcriptions always confused me a bit; I’m still trying to get the hang of non diatonic tones in jazz
Yeah, it takes a while to get your head, ears & fingers around it!
I can not find the transcription of Pat M's Blue Bossa solo?
It’s just a transcription of this lick, not the whole solo, but if you click on the buymeacoffee link then click on Extras, you’ll find it there
I wish Dante Bucci all the best i can.
A wonderful Memory for me and Shpongleland. A Heart for youre Friends and the best for Raja.
Dante was a lovely guy and a fine player. He’s much missed
A Legend in the Music World, so sad that he die so young. I hope the peace will be infinity forever :,)
Peace For Him. Wonderful that im not alone here
That is a beautiful tone
Thanks very much!
Is that the same ES-175 you won at graduation?
Matt! Lovely to hear from you, how’s things? Well remembered - it is indeed.
I just happened to stumble on your videos when looking for a Scott Henderson track. Serendipity I suppose, because it’s really nice to see/hear you again.
Great to hear from you, DM me on Facebook or Instagram, it would be great to catch up

That’s very true
Pat actually solos on the wrong changes. Instead of playing a 2 5 to D flat,he plays a 2 5 to A flat.
I tried to put it more diplomatically in the analysis!
That’s ridiculous. That II-V in Ab is totally plausible and Pat chose to play it that way.
There are no wrong notes 😎
slow down hahahaha
