Wife and 2 kids will certainly slow those things down! I agree that's it's certainly enjoyable to see and sure, it would be cool to see it more, however to me it's just as cool to see as him sharing everything else that he does with us...... It's the passion and the person! That's the reason I have watched every video for years, and yes before the Supra!

Always liked the look of the S14 and like Trev said it's been pretty solid all this time but needs some upgrades. Order of importance has got to be #1 Quick-change #2 the turbo #3 Engine & body re-fresh. Do them one at a time as you can afford to. Still, it sucks to go out with a weak axil (patchy racetrack & 3rd gear rips amplify that risk for sure), maybe replace the other side for good measure.

You've got the skill and a solid chassis. But she's tired and definitely needs a full rebuild. A 3.2 Stroker kit on the 2JZ, Quick-change rear and some beefier axles, maybe some weight reduction and a better trans. Your driving is better than your car at this point... your smooth but still lack some needed, aggression but your consistent!~
You and LZ talked and it would be cool if you two did a collab on the rebuild/refresh with his teams FD build knowledge. I think fans would definitely tune in for something like that.
But regardless I think after all the small issues the car is telling you she's at her limit in this form and is in desperate need of a do over. I miss the drifting/driving content of you pushing yourself and hope that being at this event ignites that spark to wanna drive/compete more!!~ :D
It's doesn't need more power, it needs more usable powerband!
The trans is geared for the street, 5th and 6th are useless, the spread ratio between the other gears is too wide, 1st and 2nd is fine, 2nd and 3rd need to be halved and 4th needs to be closer to what 3rd is!
Quick change would be most beneficial, different sized turbo then trans! More power only creates more problems, more power is for lesser skilled drivers, that's one thing Trevor isn't lacking.
That said, I agree on the lack of aggression, HOWEVER he has certainly proved he can get down with the best of them! It's bittersweet because he can do it under pressure, but he doesn't do it unless he's under pressure! Reminds me a lot of Taylor Ray, calm, smooth and full of skill!
@@commonsenseisdeadin2024 Oh I've said in the past that power has never been his issue. But when doing a full rebuild there's nothing wrong with pulling more from the motor. I'm not saying he needs 800hp or 1,000hp like some might say. But pulling another 200hp or so of usuable hp isn't a bad thing. And I don't think his power band is terrible... but the way he drives it.
Trevor has always had a issue of driving his JZ like a V8. He's smooth but he relies a bit to much on the torque and letting the motor do the work. Even watching him drive it feels like he floats the car through the zones and only gives enough throttle to keep it at angle and smooth. And only really stands on it hard in like the final zones or right at transitions to rotate the car.
Unlike others who really stand on it and drive super hard. As I said he lacks the aggression needed in some situations leading and chasing. Not to mention his nasty habit he grew with the vet of leaving his hand on the shifter/hand brake and only steering with one hand. 😅Adam has told him about that before I think but old habits die hard.
The issue he had in the past has always been suspension setup, transmission and Diff limitations. And more importantly... Good tires. His tires were always a lesser performance/grip compared to those he use to be against.
Now if he's on the same tires as everyone that levels the playing field. But then comes the issue of dialing in more grip to be more competitive with faster cars. More grip means you'd need more power to overcome that grip. And then it becomes the game of chasing/balancing power vs grip.
I think his main focus should be on Trans (Rather sequential or dogbox), Quick change diff, axles as the main starting points. After that FRESH suspension setup is DEFINITELY Needed, and new solid Angle kit.
Power is the last thing on the list that should be messed with.
I used to run the same exact cd and 350z rear diff on my jz s14 and I had the same issue with always being between gears. I put and quick change in the car and it was hands down the best upgrade I’ve ever done. If you can afford it then I highly recommend it.

Honestly I really think you should supercharge the jz. The turbos even with a super gnarly setup still keeps the power band pretty high up, i think you really need that response time in the jz. As well as you really need to set that chassis up better, you need a quick change rear end and more grip

Time for a complete overhaul on the old trusty 2j s14. Do it up with new paint and bodywork and juice uo the internals a little to get more reliable high hp.
DANG! Mad props to Hert for driving a new car that well, but I think you would have had him. At least the win couldn't go to a nicer guy. Still though, wanted to see you drive more. Good effort from Eric too.
Would you say it's better to get a shell and build it slowly or get someone else's project car and learn from there

The interior of s14 is so clean only if that giant tachometer was removed and factory cluster would have worked it would look nice 👍
I think there should be a balance between building cars and doing things with the cars. BTW picked up a set of wheels like yours for my s13👌

That thing needs a major glow up tbh, think it deserves it.. kind of an iconic car, honestly. Perhaps would help with getting taken out at the tour *again* by some mechanical issue.. hate to see it, but shit happens I suppose.
You need a diff, the CD009 will hold all the power so need need to upgrade that.
As he says, it's already a 350Z diff which is an R200. Should be fine, but the axles can def be upgraded.
The issue is gearing, the CD009 is geared for the street, 5th and 6th are pointless, the ratio from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th are too wide, the diff/final drive gear is limited and not easy to swap different gears into, would be better swapping the entire diff with complete units obviously with different gear ratios but even then still limited, it's expensive and not ideal.
The reason the axle snapped is the shock of having to clutch kick, he needed to clutch kick because the gears were all wrong! It's really not because of "weak axles" or "weak diff", that is straight up torture for even the "strongest" of parts!

@@commonsenseisdeadin2024 100% agree the trans is a limiting factor but having lots of different diff gears you can get around that. His car is more of a grass roots car. and putting a diff in will help that car. i feel like if he puts a 10K trans in it he might as well build a Pro Am car lol
