- Heather & I used my Canon EOS R6 Mark II Camera and RF 100-500 Zoom Lens to make bird photos on the fourth & fifth days of our Canada Honeymoon trip. All of these photos were made at Moraine Lake Lodge or the closed road that leads to the lodge. Every bird we photographed was a lifer for us.

@@JonnyPink65 thank you, JP!
i love the birds photographs , and the squirrel 👍
@@davidipema7898 thank you, David!
Wow, Heather’s shot of the Canada Jay is outstanding, especially with the detail in the berries! The sharpness at 472mm is impressive, and it’s amazing she captured it from the car window. Both of you really nailed some lifers on this trip-Heather’s Red Squirrel shot is also adorable. Great work, both of you!
Thank you! :)
Hi Phil and Heather, I liked your shot Heather on the Jay. I enjoyed the Clarks nutcracker shots. I've never seen a white crown sparrow, they are sweet.
@@PamHaynes-oo3ck thank you, Pam!
Wonderful bird finds! Congratulations on your lifers? Looking forward to your Lake videos! World famous lake!!
Thank you! The lake photography video comes out Saturday morning.
Thanks so much for sharing another wonderful video like always Phil
@@MrTmiket0007 thank you!
Congrats on the new birds. I would like to add both to my list one day.
@@rogerashley8616 thanks, Roger!
Another terrific video Phil…keep em coming!
@@jthommo101 thank you!
Canada Jay better known as the Camp Robber Jay! I lived in the Pacific Northwest for many years and backcountry hiking and camping was the primary summer activity. The jays would come right up and steal food off your plate as it was on your lap. You needed to swat them away just like the bugs. I have never seen bolder birds...or perhaps they had never had pancakes as good as mine...hahaha!
Great story! The ones at moraine lake lodge do the same thing!
Great shots! Its really interesting to see bird species we don't have in TN.
@@ses4vols thank you! It really is fun when most birds you see are new!
The Canada jay (Perisoreus canadensis), also known as the grey jay, gray jay, camp robber, or whisky jack.
@@AltaHangman interesting, thank you!
Some good shots there Phil. It’s always fun photographing wildlife or birds in a different country or new location
Thank you! A common bird for the locals can be an exotic bird to traveler.
Wow. I keep cameras ready at all times. One camera 5dmk4 and 70-300. And a 7dmk2 with 150-600 . Within arms reach at all times.
@@Ericbjohnston5150 thank you
Great shots! Glad you got your “list” shot of the Canada Jay!
Thank you, me too! :)
You made some awesome images! Was that a bee or a hover fly? It's great you took the time for both landscape and wildlife photography on your trip.
Thank you! Another comment pointed out that it is in fact fly. I get those messed up all the time lol
Good photos Phil...Thanks for posting
Thank you, Woody!
Great pictures and macro shots. The “Bee” is actually a Hoverfly. Probably an Eristalis sp.
Thank you! I often mix up hover flies and bees. :)
Beautiful photos! btw the bee is an Eristalis tenax, the common drone fly.
Thank you!
Nice shots! We also have White-crowned sparrows here in Arizona. I don't see many, but I have gotten pictures of them.
Thank you! They are a beautiful variety for sure!
Wonderful images, as usual!
@@jalenobanphotography thank you, Jalen! You’ll find more bird photography videos on my channel than anything else, but I sure did enjoy doing landscape photography on out Canada trip.
Lovely shots of those birds Phil. May I ask, have they had any post production, especially denoising as your ISO’s were quite high?
@@davidct2406 thank you! I run all of my photos through topaz DeNoise AI on his default setting regardless of ISO. I like the way that program sharpens.
@@PhilThach Thank you Phil, you certainly cannot fault the sharpness of those pictures but I’m sure that a lot of that is down to the skill of the photographer, both you and Heather.
Hi Phil which lens do you prefer to use on the R7, 100-500 or 200-800? I saw your comparison a while back and there was very little difference between your 200-800 shots and Heathers 100-500 shots. I currently have 100-400is ii and want to upgrade.
@@daviddouglasuk I love the 100-500 and I’m only moderately fond of the 200-800.
I shoot the R5 100-500. The lens is amazing and it’s what keeps me in the Canon family at the moment. It is light, easy to carry and handhold. It’s weather sealed and sharp wide open. It also shoots macro type shots with its minimum focus distance and magnification. I’m anxiously waiting for the R7ii to try it on this lens! I have the 1.4 tc, but rarely put it on as I don’t love the weight, or the fact that you can’t pull back to 100. It’s a physical design flaw. The 200-800 would be too heavy for a walk around lens for me with none of the upside of my 100-500. I can only afford 1, so I’m staying with the 100-500! Good luck!
