All of us who live in the fringe so to speak totally get Maria and love her for her candor and kindness in her honesty ❤
Her humor is so deep. you have to pay attention but when you DO pay attention, you are rewarded with the BEST kind of humor. I think most can relate to her situations just that they do not like to admit it. Too many people playing "Joy Whack-a-Mole"
I adore Maria Bamford.
Itsalltemporary me too
Love your name!
She's one of a kind. A real treasure.
She is a genius. An absolutely brilliant mind. Wonderful interview.
I feel one of the best ambassadors of comedy and the illness. Genius on so many levels. I could listen to her for hours on end
She "is" a genius ,not a moniker given to many comedians .Her mental health background just adds to her uniqueness and character.
She gives 100% to this interview. Very thoughtful and kind.
tigmite1 agree
Maria makes me feel less alone
I am madly in love with this person.
One of my favoritest people.
It's paradoxical that she suffers from OCD and intrusive thoughts and other mental health issues yet with her humor her mind is so free and she is so fearless!
Finding the right medication can be a real struggle even after a person does try to get help. I'm glad she found something that works for her. Very funny and nice lady.
It’s so true, love her I saw her show in February 2019 in Duluth and after the show she waited for what must have been hours for audience members to meet her. I got to have a little chat with her and she signed a picture I brought. She was so nice and I’m so happy I got to meet her. She helped me without knowing it and I relate to her comedy so much!😊
I had no idea that she visited with folks after the show. I love her even more, with that knowledge.
I completely agree with "Maria is a Genius we are all striving to eventually understand", but she DOES have bi-polar 2, it runs in her family, and is quite serious and real. Recent meds have made the difference apparently, all hail Saint Maria!
Love this woman! Wish she would tour the UK
What a great interviewer he is. I’m very impressed!
Her vulnerability makes her more lovable. We are all imperfect.
She is perfectly broken.
I LOVE HER!
I don't know if Maria reads these comments but if so I want her to know she is extremely useful, that her humor makes the humdrum everyday bearable in a way that no other comedian can, and that her caring, thoughtful discussion of mental health is something I personally use every day to help people I know who have mental health. Thank you Maria.
I’m so thrilled about all these positive comments about Maria Bamford. Loved her style for years and it’s great so many people are digging her comedy so much. She’s a genius.
We LOVE dark comedy in the UK, you'd be massive here.
+Tripledonkey Here's one "We know junkyard dogs are mean but the meanest dogs - guard concentration camps"
She'd be an order of magnitude larger than in the US based on land mass alone.
U.K. just doesn't like French magazines satirizing the $88 billion dollar racist family (i.e. the "Royals") - that btw won't provide for a mixed race heir!!!
just saw her two days ago. i was so thoroughly vibed. i have so much appreciation for her and love. i have the same things she has, aNd like her, am really sick of people going
"we ALL have mental illness....." love her love her.
Great interview! Maria says @ 17:44 “Limits can really make a form.... You know? That what you have is exactly what you need.” And I think that says a lot about her and the success she has achieved. Mindset can change the course of disease. She’s awesome!
i love her so much. im so glad she found a medium where her troubles can be used in such a talented and hilarious way. she was able to turn her weakness into an amazing strength
dude, no. it was never a weakness in the first place. Just something life dealt her. Mentally people are not weak. #sicknotweak
Maria is amazing she’s beautiful 💜 definitely her story will help others as we are humans no one is perfect no one.. Go Maria
I hate the title of this video. "DARK COMEDY". She just talks about life... and not in a dark way at all. She is full of life in her stand up and deals with dark subjects but I feel that calling her comedy in general "dark" is kinda unfair. Much of it is pure silliness and pure genius.
I don't hate it as much as you do, but it struck me as inapropos as well when I read it. But I can understand what they were trying to get at; they're probably trying to warn off people not familiar with Bamford who aren't comfortable laughing at serious topics.
That. Was. Liberating! 🤟🏽
Maria is the best companion to my crazy mind ;)
did I finally find a video of Maria Bamford where no creepy dudes are hitting on her in the comments?
THANX MARIA !
God she’s amazing! Hi from a fellow Minnesotan!
Love you Maria!!! ❤❤❤
Maria is aces.
"What you have is exactly what you need" Damn.
I was a bit confused about that statement...but maybe its just me!
I haven't heard of her until I saw "lady dynamite" lastnight. I watched like 5 episodes in a row. I really like Maria. I like how her show makes light of things and pokes fun at serious issues. When i read about the show, (it was cancelled after 2 years despite great viewership for some reason) a lot of the reviews were blasting her about being insensitive to mental health issues. I'm a son of a woman who is bi polar and I personally found it therapeutic and funny. I feel like the type of people who were "offended" by it never had to deal with it on a personal level. Anyway, Maria is great and I'm a new fan. I've been spending the last 2 hours watching every interview of hers that I could. God bless, take care
So in love with M.B!
The best interview. A struggle to improve mental health care is being done by One Mind For Research.
great interview
Maria is a true word artist 🎨 ❤
Saving this for the book rec’s
it is tiring being mentally ill. i have mood swings all the time and trying to figure out how to balance out
don't try and figure it out yourself. Go talk to someone. Also, do not just buy into what anyone says about meds if that comes up in discussion. You need to be responsible for yourself. There is help out there. If you need to go on meds listen to your body. You will know if they are helping or not. If it's not bad enough that it is interuppting life, just eat properly, get sleep, exercise! very important
I love her
In my experience, on the fourth floor. if you want to shave, they give you these little one blade, fragile razors that break when you push them to your face. Also, there was a paper bad in the waste basket. Some people were chomping at the bit to get out. Others found a kind of coziness. That, even if you lose control of your body and go too leap off the building you can't.
Great.
This guy is a good interviewer he will get better until then hosting this show.Bit of Jian style.Nice one.i always watch Q.This guy is better than previous host after Jian Fired.
13:31 it got really real, sometimes you wish you could do something for that person to make it better.
❤️
Should listen to Jonathan Winters as well about the same subject. 30 years apart, the experience is about the same.
Is that a mild Jackie Kashian impersonation @ 18:05?
She is what's up! Right on point saying 'if you've been thru it' but NO I would never want 2 be the gal who 💘 "say yes to the dress"
I have some form of mental health.
Tom Power is some real hotness.
THAT'S what Tom Power looks like?!!!!!
i find this guy a good interviewer he had a bit of Jian style
Maria Bamford: location, location, location.
No Jian, no deal.
She seems like shes totally in her q zone right now
Why is the audio always so low on the interviews? The singing sessions are fine, only the interviews have low audio...
turn it up.
Medication has failed me for 11 years, no matter what I take
Luca, I wish you love. I hope you are good 💕
I also send love! Hi from Colorado
you know, I miss jian.
Bacon...thx
Not the same without Jian Ghomeshi
Tom Power is a good host. Give him a chance to shine.
+matias costante some of us thought he was an annoying phony before all the bad stuff came out
Yeah there are alot of moments here where imagine him having this incredible response to what she says and being able to take the conversation in interesting directions.
i dont even know who that is dude... i dont like his name though too ethnic, knaamean?
Why is it that naturally brilliant and super creative people also have some mental health issues. Comedians, singers and artists come to mind. Their brains are just wired Sioux guess
Genocide documentary = reality therapy
Love Maria - best comedian out there - so funny and great voices. Tom, on the other hand, appears to have no sense of humor at all.
"It's ok to not fulfill potential. As a matter of fact, there's a kind of beauty there." And she thinks she wouldn't make a good therapist.
I resent the title of this video. Maria's comedy makes light of dark subjects but I wouldn't call it "dark comedy"... it's just reality. Mental illness and suicide are apart of everyone's life in one form or another
As hard as the shallow host tries, he simply doesn't 'get' her.
I think he's really quite amicable and sympathetic and does get her? I think he's just talking and asking questions in a way that's intentionally trying to be more accessible to people who wouldn't get her
He asked many questions, glancing at his list, that she had just discussed in her previous answers, something so many hosts do. My own experience in life has shown that we certainly do not actually listen to 100% of what we say to each other, as there is always this practice of thinking about what one will say subsequent to the other speaker finishing - it is a disastrous element of any convo, and it happens even among professional interviewers. Better a 3 second silence where thought is actually happening than random or wrongheaded space filler, but the culture says, Fear the empty silence! That is a gross misrepresentation of human animal communication and a dang waste of time.
PAINFUL
I really don't think Maria ever HAD a mental illness. What I feel is that since she is such a super genius lady, all the dumbasses of planet earth just didn't understand and starting talking shit about how "CRAZY" she was, and perhaps after Maria heard that bullshit a million fucking times, maybe she started to believe it. So, to me it seems like maybe Maria drove HERSELF crazy by listening to stupid shit from fucking idiots. Maria Bamford is one of my all time favorite comics. You go, Maria!
love you for this comment
Joshua Hess I love you, too!
I agree.
Bipolar 2 is not something you catch. She's on meds because they help her. I understand you're supporting her, but really, you're not. There's no shame in mental illness. People are still medieval about it, that's the real problem. - And, i don't mean you're being medieval, you're actually very kind :).
Ehh, there are other interviews where she very much describes suffering psychological issues that she felt she had absolutely zero control over, including obsessive fears that she'd sexually or physically assault friends/family/animals. While she very much asserts it as an OCD oriented issue & that she'd in reality never act upon, the fact that she does experience phobias/mental processes she's had little control over in the past does suggest it's more than just her being such a "super genius lady". But as someone else responded, it's nothing to be ashamed of, if anything she's a total inspiration for those who might otherwise believe it'd hinder them from living a rewarding & fulfilling life. Daang ya seen Lady Dynamite yet? Damned great show.
My personal opinion... If you go to see any given comedian, you most probably have a rough idea of the comedians content, or at least the angle at which they triangulate their humor... And if you subject yourself to that, knowing you might find something there that you might find offensive in any way.... Then you are an idiot. Most comedians do the 'dark humor' thing and if you understand comedy, you would understand that it is just that...COMEDY! If you don't... well... You might want to stay away from any comedy club.
I preffer Woody Allen.
Ugh. Watching Tom Power is worse than what Jian Ghomeshi did to me after making Big Ears Teddy face the wall!
I can't look at that guys face. Wouldn't it be better if he had a bag over his head?
Guessed it. Pure snore material. zzzzzzzzzzz
How is this woman a stand up comic lmao. She's literally one of the unfunniest people I've ever watched.
Have you ever watched her standup? She is literally one of the funniest people on the planet. Here she is being thoughtful, but on stage she is one of the most clever, layered comics out there.
Yeah, more like this interviewer is the least conducive to comedy possible. Listen to her on Maron's live WTF podcast episodes; she's a goddamned riot.
Maybe you should watch her act instead of judging her on a radio interview. She is freaking hilarious.
Dan Mullen
I have just to make sure before I posted this two years ago. She's awful lol.
You know who you might find funny instead? Dane Cook. Also, Family Guy and Friends. Super deep and layered. But Maria? Tissue thin.
