  • A quick video on the payload and towing capacity of a 2022 Ford F350 Super Duty Lariat with the Tremor Package. Towing capacity will vary depending on the options of your truck. A base model F350 for example has higher number than the next level and so forth.

    The actual gvwr of the f350 super duty is 13,230 with the Dana m275 rear axle (7230 capacity) and Dana super 60 front (6000). Ford underates the actual gvwr to 11500.
    In addition, the Tremor package itself reduces payload and has a 15k conventional tow capacity, though 21200 hitch on rear.
    The sunroof alone is nearly 90 pounds. A sunroof also reduces roof structural load capacity. Without it, the roof is 6000k structural capacity.
    Initially I had a 22 platinum Tremor on order (f350 6.7). I changed it to Lariat value, no sunroof, no 360 cameras, no AS, no tailgate step. This should put my gvwr around 3330.
    I need all the payload I can get.
    I love the platinum (dark marsala interior), but options greatly reduce payload.

    Great looking truck! I have a 2017 Platinum 250 currently and the max conventional is 15K. The max conventional towing for the 2022 Tremor version with the 3.55 axle is 15K per the 2022 ford towing guide page 27 see the note #8, or 5th wheel/goose neck allows for the 21k. I wanted the new tremor version but for some reason it tows 5K less conventionally. Maybe because its leveled up front, because without the Tremor package it will conventionally tow 20K.

    Good video. However, the rating for the hitch is not the same as the tow rating. I believe you need to refer to the Ford towing guide. It is my understanding that your bumper tow rating is 15,000 lbs.

    • @iAmMarchal
      @iAmMarchal  2 года назад +3

      Thanks Trevor! I appreciate it.
      As for the towing...the way I understand it is your towing capacity is calculated by GCWR (30,000) - Curb Weight (8242). Curb weight is calculated by GVWR (11500) - Payload (3258) In the case of my truck.
      So based on this my Max tow rating would be 30,000-8242=21,758.
      Thoughts?

      The number you do not want to exceed is the gvwr. A 21748 pound trailer, depending on the hitch weight could put you over the "advertised" gvwr.
      Yes, your truck can easily handle that weight and it's overengineered to handle up to 13230 gvwr. However, your registered for 11500 at dmv and you can't go over that. And you can't go over your trailer gvwr.
      Those are the numbers that matter most to DOT, not necessarily the 30k gcwr

      You can look up your tow rating with your VIN, Ford online towing guide, or you can contact a Ford dealer and they can print out all the specs for your specific truck. This print out will be about 23 pages and include all your options, curb weight, payload, GVWR, axle capacity,tow ratings, off road approach angles, ramp breakeven angle, load floor height, exterior cargo length volume max width, interior volume, engine specs bore displacement, departure angle, min ground clearance, all gear ratios, all exterior dimensions, 0-60 times, 1/4 mile times, skid pad lateral acceleration (g), slalom mph, and a ton more information. Definitely worth getting a copy for your truck from the dealership. I am 100% sure the Tremor package is only rate for 15k bumper towing. You lose 5k because of the Tremor off road suspension. The normal bumper tow rating is 20k. I worked up every combination I could before I ordered my truck a couple of weeks ago. I would have loved the Tremor package but the lower tow rating was a deal breaker for me. I ended up with a f350 srw crew cab 8' box King Ranch.

    These people towing triple axle tow haulers that weigh 20k pounds and 4000 pin weights are over their payload on the srw diesel trucks.
    Dually f350 with 14k gvwr is the way to go for those type of rigs

    • @ep9691
      @ep9691 2 года назад

      totally agree. it's always the Payload Capacity which is the bottleneck for towing. Sure the engine can tow 21,000 lbs but no way can the truck hold the pinweight of a 21,000lb trailer (the truck in the video). Unless all the weight is in the back of the trailer, then you get the DEATH trailer sway.

    Excellent video!! I have an f-150 eccoboost that can tow about 11,000 but the payload sucks. It pulls hard with no problem but I don't push it on long trips but I'm very interested in getting one of these. Hey Bemorecareful! Thank you and you are welcome! I am surprised how much the F150 can tow. Those are pretty solid numbers. I had a Raptor before and it maxed at 5k or so. Terrible. I don’t think you would be going wrong with a 350. FYI I believe a 250 Tremor has the same springs that essentially make it a 350.

    • @iAmMarchal
      @iAmMarchal  2 года назад

      I sure did. Its 10% of the weight of the trailer for anyone reading :). And the payload and trailer have to be no more than the GCWR. So if you have a huge trailer then payload suffers and vice versa.
      As far as the towing...the way I understand it is your towing capacity is calculated by GCWR (30,000) - Curb Weight (8242). Curb weight is calculated by GVWR (11500) - Payload (3258) In the case of my truck.

    Good stuff, probably overkill that I ordered a F350 limited, but I just wanted to keep my numbers in line and keep the family safe while towing. I’ll have a bigger variety of trailers to pick from when I get back stateside.
    I was curious if you can do this, but with a 12 inch screen, can you connect your IPhone to it and play a movie on it? Cheers

      You never have to justify what you like☺️. Congratulations on the limited. Excellent choice.
      I got mine with the same thoughts. I didn’t want to ever “crunch numbers” to see if I could safely tow it or load it. I wanted the most powerful vehicle that looked the best I could get. This was it for me.
      As far as video. Without a mod of sorts I don’t think that works. I’ll confirm later today and repost or do a video if I find otherwise.
      Safe travels back!

    So how do I figure out how much I can actually tow like with a gooseneck trailer or with a fifth wheel

    • @iAmMarchal
      @iAmMarchal  2 года назад +1

      This isn’t as cut and dry as I would like. The best way I would say is to go to the dealership. But generally speaking it’s about 12k 6.2 V8, 15k 7.3 V8, 20k for 6.7 diesel. These numbers will vary by how your vehicle is outfitted.
      Another way to calculate is using your door stickers and the method below.
      Your GCWR (30,000) - Curb Weight (8242). Curb weight is calculated by GVWR (11500) - Payload (3258) In the case of my truck.
      So based on this my Max tow rating would be 30,000-8242=21,758.

      There are multiple factors when you want to "know" what you can tow "safely". first is Payload Capacity of the truck, different with EVERY truck depending on options you have installed on the truck "more options, less payload capacity." There is nothing you can do to raise the payload capacity PERIOD. you must add the trailer Tongue weight of a conventional trailer or the "hitch weight, or Kingpin weight" of a 5th wheel to all the weight in your truck (this is you, passengers, dogs, cats, and ALL cargo combined) and you cannot go OVER this payload capacity number. 2nd is GCWR, this is the COMBINED weights of your truck with all it's contents + trailer with all it's content. These 2 total weights added togethor CANNOT exceed the trucks GCWR. once you get all those number's and they are all BELOW the max limit, then you know you are towing safely and you are not overloading your transmission, leaf springs, etc. etc..
      It's all confusing when you first read about it, but trust me after a while you understand it. Reason you want to tow safe is you don't want catastrophic failure while driving 60-70 mph down the road pulling something and your insurance won't pay for it cause you were OVERLOADED.

    What's the 5th wheel capacity?

    • @iAmMarchal
      @iAmMarchal  2 года назад +1

      This will vary depending on your truck and build. So I’ll give you the calculation so you can figure any truck.
      GVWR - Curb Weight = Payload.
      Payload is everything carried in the car including people etc and also the weight imposed on the bed by the fifth wheel which is usually 25% of the total weight of the trailer. Weight of the trailer includes the trailer and everything in it water, food, sheets, atv etc etc.
      My truck has a GVWR of 11500. So rolling down the road it can’t weigh more than that. Meaning people and tongue weight of trailer fuel in truck etc.
      My curb weight is GVWR - Payload = 8248
      So I can only carry GVWR (11500)- curb weight (8248) = (payload)3252
      So if I weigh 252 pounds. I’d minus from payload so now my payload is 3000.
      So my 5th wheel could only be 12000 pounds. Since 25% (3000 pounds)of its weight would sit as payload.
      So to answer your question simply 12000 pounds of 5th wheel. Hope that helps.

    • @Pratt_Photo
      @Pratt_Photo 2 года назад

      @@iAmMarchal appreciate your response. But I'm fairly positive a diesel f350 tremor with 3.55 gears has a 21k 5th wheel towing capacity.

    • @iAmMarchal
      @iAmMarchal  2 года назад

      @@Pratt_Photo no worries. That would put your payload at 5250 with that trailer weight alone. A 2022 SRW F350 is rated Max Payload 4960. The tremor package or any upgraded package adds weigh which takes away from payload.
      Also these are the calculations. People have been known to tow more with them. I play it safe and never try to tow flow to my max.
      Ps. If you go to a good dealer with your particular truck they should be able to tell you what it specifically can do.

    • @krismoore5558
      @krismoore5558 2 года назад

      @@Pratt_Photo that is largely irrelevant for most combos. almost all 21k 5th wheels when loaded to a number anywhere close to that are so heavy at the rear truck axle the payload is over. you don't count the highest possibility you count the lowest and axle weight is what gets you. My 5th wheel is only 14k ish but with a front living room and water its super heavy at the pin. I had to max out a SRW 1 ton to make it work. With just my wife and I and a couple bags in the cab we are right on the money - with a lot of room in the back of the cab to overload if we didn't pay attention.
