@@unknxwnprxdigy366 You're right on one thing. The Beldam takes form of a loving, caring mother to lure the children in. She shows them 'love' by giving them whatever they want. They were actually kidnapped but they don't remember. You know because at the end the snow globe they are being kept in is broken and they walk into the house with snow all over them even though it wasn't snowing outside. It melts before they can notice it
@@tumblrcat5325 Wait im confused so ill tell you what i think when i read that. When she saw her parents in the mirror, it was the button eye mother magic and then made her go back to the other world so she could get a chance to get Coralines Soul. and the Globe where he parents were "trapped" in were fake? and then when she came back to the real world after winning. her parents came right in time, so when she thought her parents were gone. they just havent come home?
The fact that it's not considered a horror movie, yet is so unsettling and surreal makes it so creepy because it's not what we expect. The dark, depressing and almost claustrophobic atmosphere that Coraline lives in is what made this movie so memorable for me. It's a work of art
I just love Gaiman's inspiration for Coraline. So cool that the story basically came from the mind of a child, and he wrote an ENTIRE book based on that. Dude needs a "best dad" award.
That's exactly how I saw the movie. Just a cartoon with tons of action in it! Plus it's Tim Burton! That's just how he roles! And personally I love his movies
I feel like the idea of being a child like Coraline and being stuck in an isolated world without your parents. Reminds me of the nightmares I had as a child of being separated from my mom.
When i was 10 and watched this movie i was like "dont trust other mother" and my mom was like "okay...sure u wanna keep watching?" But now im 13 and i still like it very much
In my house we had a library with a little door in it (the one that coraline goes through) after watching coraline I was too scared to walk into the library by myself
i love how they say that children will get scared watching this, I on the other hand watched this every single day since I was three years old. I loved this movie as a kid and people thought I was insane.
I just saw this not too long ago. That movie is creepy as heck, but at the same time it isn’t absolute nightmare fuel. I respect that it is so creatively made, and stays away from the typical scary movie tropes.
2:36 There is a great detail here that a lot of people usually miss, including myself for quite a while, there is an old legend that someone who writes “O” with a double loop is a liar, you will notice that the “O” in “Welcome” is not double looped, but the “O” in “Home” is. Therefore Coraline is welcome, but she is not home. (Also this is not my theory, someone else discovered it before me, so I do not take credit for this)
It's the overbearing mother archetype, this movie represents the horrific psychological effects of a pathological mother suffocating their child in a guise of love, the child will get everything they want but they can never leave or have any control of their life. I love this movie, it's truly amazingly directed and visualized.
To be fair, Princess Mononoke had a good amount of blood and gore in it. However, I'm certain that if they had added blood and gore into Coraline, it would've also received a PG 13 rating.
Honestly watched both movies very young and I watched princess mononoke pretty much every week while coraline, I watched once and couldn't stop having nightmares about her needle hands. Both amazing films though.
Coraline was definitely creepy as hell. But honestly the message of overcoming scary things is exactly the kind of message I want my kids seeing. My daughter is 3 and has already watched this movie. And the joy on her face when she beat the other mother was heartbreaking. She saw a young girl win, and that made her the happiest kid in the world for a few minutes. ❤️
I remember reading that when looking at handwriting, cursive o's with thwo loops at the top (like the welcome home cake) mean theres a lie. The welcome only has one loop, the home has two. She is welcome, but she's not home.
When I was younger, I got nightmares from this movie. But now that I rewatched it, I feel like it is more sad than scary. Her parents act like she isn't there.
Agreed, Coraline's parents were rather neglectful so you can definitely see why Coraline thoroughly enjoyed herself when she first discovered the Other Mother's world.
The scariest scene in the movie is when Coraline realizes she’s in danger and tries to escape and wakes up still in the Other Mother’s house. Also when the piano grabs The Other Father’s face to shut him up and spins him around. Creepy af.
I remember we were going to watch this movie at the theatre for a friends birthday, and I was so terrified that I had to hold the hand of my friends mom during the entire duration of the film hahaha. I didn't dare to go near it for a long time, but when I finally had the guts to watch it, it became one of my favorite and most memorable movies of all time, I think I've watched it like 5 times now. Yea it was maybe a little too scary for me at that age, but in the end it gave me an awesome cinematic experience I'll never forget :)
My daughter rarely feels scared about things in stories or movies... She even loves zombies films. But this movie... Oh man. She can't go beyond the opening scene. Extremely disturbing and uncanny.
I think the reason Coraline is so creepy, is because of how alone she really is. In the book it’s even better. There’s no police, no mom, no dad to help her with her quest, she’s all alone, except for the cat I suppose, but still. She’s all alone, and if she doesn’t do anything, then she will be forever.
As a kid I felt terrified watching it. When I re-watched it again a few times in adult age (because it's one of my faves!) I sensed a different kind of horror in the movie. I used to be scared and jumpy of Beldam and the things she created, but now the horror is witnessing how lonely the other world is! The atmosphere of that world is really dreading, and whatever in there is not real but just a fatamorgana, which only makes me feel uneasy when I think deeper of it. It's like feeling that world's vulnerability, that it could really crush in just a seconds when no real thing is there, except for The Other Mother, which is an otherworld entity herself. It's like feeling the world's emptiness and that there's nothing you can really do because you don't really belong there.
Ok so in my school he have houses “groups each person goes into” for example Balmorral, Balgonie ect. And I’m in Balgonie. Each house has a Guidance Teacher. OUR GUIDANCE TEACHER LOOKS LIKE FREACKIN WHYBIE

Gene Jolivet she made her think they were kidnapped
They were actually kidnapped but they don't remember. You know because at the end the snow globe they are being kept in is broken and they walk into the house with snow all over them even though it wasn't snowing outside. It melts before they can notice it
They’re covered in “snow” from the snow globe when they walk in
Yes they were actually kidnapped. They just didn't remember because of magic reasons
Because of the Other Mother.
She's so freaking terrifying!!
When I was little, I thought this was a kids movie and played the movie on high volume all by myself in the dark. Biggest regret of my life.
I'd love to do that
Well is a kids movie but is scariest as sh*t

90% this movie terrified me i had nightmares for months
10% good movie but not that scary
The fact that it's not considered a horror movie, yet is so unsettling and surreal makes it so creepy because it's not what we expect. The dark, depressing and almost claustrophobic atmosphere that Coraline lives in is what made this movie so memorable for me. It's a work of art
"Oh I definitely heard someone call you, 'Why-were-you-born..."
Coraline Savage af
Awwww poor wybie
Bruh
Coraline was quite a savage though. I just loved how she would back-chat her parents, I would sometimes copy what she said 🙃
This movie was traumatic - I only just recently rewatched it and have a new appreciation for it now as an adult but still.... this movie man
When you find a children's movie more disturbing than an adult's movie
I just love Gaiman's inspiration for Coraline. So cool that the story basically came from the mind of a child, and he wrote an ENTIRE book based on that. Dude needs a "best dad" award.
When I was younger I never thought it was creepy, I used to watch it like 100 times a day when I was 6

Honestly I don't think this movie is all that terrifying. Watching this as a kid I never got nightmares. The movie is creepy but in a good way!
Same here! I remember enjoying it as an adventure film. Just like the guy said as described in the video!
Same. I wasn't scared of it, I watched it like a normal cartoon.
That's exactly how I saw the movie. Just a cartoon with tons of action in it! Plus it's Tim Burton! That's just how he roles! And personally I love his movies
Sophia Rice I literally had the most unhealthy obsession with coraline as a kid
Conflicted _contortionist oh my gosh same!!!! That and Corpse Bride!!!! Even when it wasn’t Halloween I would always watch those movies 😂

I didn't trust my parents for a while after watching this
I feel like the idea of being a child like Coraline and being stuck in an isolated world without your parents. Reminds me of the nightmares I had as a child of being separated from my mom.
When i was 10 and watched this movie i was like "dont trust other mother" and my mom was like "okay...sure u wanna keep watching?"
But now im 13 and i still like it very much
Dude 3 years is nothing 😂
Knippey lmao I’ve been watching it since I was born

I watched it when I was 5, but I liked this movie so much and I still like it.
I was so proud of myself when I got through Coraline, my mum said “it’s just a kids movie, not that hard.” She has never seen it....
A lot of people swear it hits adult viewers very differently than kids viewers...
This is even more scary to talk about because it’s spooktober

Monster House and Coraline are the best Kids Horror Movies.
They're like Goosebumps and The Haunting Hour in Animated version.
Katelyn the White Werewolf wasn’t talking bout that *but ok*
Simple answer:The Devil produced this movie and he started as everyone.
Hi Army
Hi Army
In my house we had a library with a little door in it (the one that coraline goes through) after watching coraline I was too scared to walk into the library by myself
I’ve watched many horror movies. Coraline is by far the movie that scared me the most😅
same
Same its so creepy
Same here! And Coraline was originally going to be live action, which would've made it scarier
I wasn’t scared of Caroline but I was terrified of James and the giant peach.
Same dude
I was so scared of Caroline
It’s Coraline.
CAROLINE? fake fan
CailynFunTimes excuse me?
i love how they say that children will get scared watching this, I on the other hand watched this every single day since I was three years old. I loved this movie as a kid and people thought I was insane.
Same 🌚
Me too this was my all time favourite movie when i was 4
The movie wasn't scary to me either. I quite liked it.
same. are we okay?
@@nziraaah8032 are we?
I just saw this not too long ago. That movie is creepy as heck, but at the same time it isn’t absolute nightmare fuel. I respect that it is so creatively made, and stays away from the typical scary movie tropes.
I remember telling my mom let's watch a kids movie she put this one I was like mom this a rated r movie 😂
😂
😂
After watching this movie I spent the next 3 months checking my parents eyes for buttons, and asking them questions fake parents wouldn't know.
"Black is traditional, but if you prefer pink-Or...vermilion? ...chartreuse?"
I still can't believe that this movie is rated PG and Princess Mononoke is rated PG 13.
To be fair, Princess Mononoke had a good amount of blood and gore in it. However, I'm certain that if they had added blood and gore into Coraline, it would've also received a PG 13 rating.
Mental Meles you mean R right?
Honestly watched both movies very young and I watched princess mononoke pretty much every week while coraline, I watched once and couldn't stop having nightmares about her needle hands. Both amazing films though.
Coraline was definitely creepy as hell. But honestly the message of overcoming scary things is exactly the kind of message I want my kids seeing. My daughter is 3 and has already watched this movie. And the joy on her face when she beat the other mother was heartbreaking. She saw a young girl win, and that made her the happiest kid in the world for a few minutes. ❤️
I have a feeling they will see the film very differently if they watched it again as adults... 😊
I remember reading that when looking at handwriting, cursive o's with thwo loops at the top (like the welcome home cake) mean theres a lie. The welcome only has one loop, the home has two. She is welcome, but she's not home.
Coralline is Literally Scarier then any horror movie made
When I was younger, I got nightmares from this movie.
No one:
Not even a single soul:
Other mother: *THREEEEEEE!!!*
Yess
My daughter rarely feels scared about things in stories or movies... She even loves zombies films. But this movie... Oh man. She can't go beyond the opening scene. Extremely disturbing and uncanny.
I remember having nightmares about this movie... let's just say those ones weren't aimed towards children at all
I think the reason Coraline is so creepy, is because of how alone she really is. In the book it’s even better. There’s no police, no mom, no dad to help her with her quest, she’s all alone, except for the cat I suppose, but still. She’s all alone, and if she doesn’t do anything, then she will be forever.
When you realise it was made 10 years ago
This was honestly my favourite movie in grade 3. I loved it even though it was creepy and slowly picked up on lots of little details as I watched it.
This was my childhood movie. I was a morbid child and absolutely loved creepy things. I would never get bored with this movie it's that good.
This film actually gave me a button phobia for about 7 years. I didn’t wear anything with buttons from when I watched this in 2010 until 2017 😕
0:21 OMG that was perfect the way he say yeah and the beldam
I grew up on watching, movies like coraline, and the og, never ending story, my childhood was cool thanks to these kid movies
This is one of the creepiest movies ive watched as a kid also movie "9" .
This is the creepiest movie ive watched without loud jump scares.
The way they did this movie is brillian.
Given that I as an adult still have nightmares of the Beldam, this is absolutely a horrifying book/movie. And I still love it.
I remember watching this movie when I was 5, I couldn't sleep for a week!😂
Sagius _ yikes 😂
Coraline made me develop a phobia of buttons and small doors when I was little
I loved this movie as a kid it wasn't scary or creepy for me
@@potato-se7dm I loved it to but It was super scary for me
As a kid I felt terrified watching it.
And I think what you said is part of why it creeps out many adult viewers as well!
Ok so in my school he have houses “groups each person goes into” for example Balmorral, Balgonie ect. And I’m in Balgonie. Each house has a Guidance Teacher. OUR GUIDANCE TEACHER LOOKS LIKE FREACKIN WHYBIE
The fact that this is a children’s movie
Dude this movies and spirited away are supposed to be “children” movies. But when i watched them both as a kid i was shitting myself i mean come on even that boy with weird neck is creepy. Seriously thats creepy af.
I get coraline being creepy af, but how is spirited away scary? I'm not trying to be rude or invalidate your fear, I'm just curious.
@@sthirukk I don't personally find spirited away very scary. But as a child, I assume that the theme of "parents turning into pigs and being alone in a world you know nothing about" is not the most reassuring thing ever
If you think these kid movies are bad, watch The Dark Crystal and Watership down
