  • For charity and also new family members in your life... introducing the newborn to 12 month sizes for a Crochet Easy Baby Jacket.
This is one of the most simplest designs for baby jackets. The top (yoke) starts off simply. Then after a few rows, you fold it special to make the top section. This is demonstrated in the tutorial. Then you crochet the rest of the jacket. Once the main section is done, you go and crochet the sleeves. You add a front border to both sides of the opening to make it look finished. Then add 1 button at the top.
For myself, filming this didn't take long. This pattern with using the stitchwork, you could wip off several jackets for charity fairly quickly. The pattern is sized for newborn, 3 months and 6 - 12 months. The tutorial follows the newborn size but you can easily substitute the information that is shared in the tutorial by cross referencing the pattern.
If you were to ever try a baby jacket, I would highly recommend this one as a starter.

I've made this a few times, the last one I made I added a border of single crochet around the bottom, cuffs and neck to finish it off nicely. I also tapered the sleeves by decreasing two stitches on two rows

I used three hockey team colors so the baby can watch the games with his dad. 😁

Now on to make the hat. 👍🏼

I think this maybe a project I will work in the future between other projects and have different sizes on hand so they are ready to go as a quick gift, as well as an addition to items I knit/crochet for charity and donations. Thanks for a great pattern/tutorial!

My newest one I made a 12" doll from chunky yarn. I used Red Heart Unforgettable yarn and an E hook and with trial and error figured out how to make the cardigan for the doll. Now I'm going to find a pattern for pants and him. I wish I could put a picture of him on here...

That is a good idea! I just got done with my first sleeve doing it the other way....I wish I had seen this comment before...good to know for next time. I also thought the sleeves were too wide at the end so I did one row of decrease then one row of chain stitch then finished with one row of slip stitch all the way around it snugs in it and gives it a cleaner look I may do one row of chain stitch and then one row of slip stitch around the neckline and the bottom too.

Tikeisha Robinson My first grandbaby just arrived in December, and I am crocheting him a bunch of things. I always love Mikey's videos. Very easy to follow. Congrats on the new grandbaby.

Mikey...I have to stop crocheting and say I LOVE the way you talk us through things!!! I have learned SO MUCH from you over the last couple years and I just wanted to say THANK YOU!!!! I feel like this sweater will turn out perfect for my 7th grandchild, a boy, that is on the way. Now I just thought I would throw this out there....could you pretty please find a pattern (or make your own maybe) for matching pants? I have search and searched for a tutorial like yours for a baptismal outfit for "a boy" and no one makes one :( Now I know boys can use a "gown" too but my son and his wife (and I do too) want "an outfit" for the baby boy for baptism. So I am going to use this sweater here and hope and hope you can whip up a matching pair of pants for this. And actually eventually I think you would get a great response if you make a whole outfit for a baby boy for baptism. I would like to have a collar on this sweater; I think it would maybe seem more boy like? Maybe not I don't know, but anyway so far so good with following along with you on this! Many thanks and I am very grateful for all you do to help teach me how to crochet! Oh and by the way I am sure there are written patterns out there for what I am looking for, but I just can't follow written instructions yet...maybe as I get better at this I will be able to do that. :)

Thank you for sharing this, it is a really nice jacket. I am learning how to crochet and your tutorial is easy to follow. Does anyone know if is it a good idea to add more buttons or the design is just with one? Also, how much yarn do I need, the pattern shows a ball of 350 g. Do we use all the ball?

Hi Alejandra did you try it with more buttons. I'm almost finished making this sweater. It's for a 1 year old boy and I intend to add 4 buttons. I think it would look better for his age. It looks to me, like once the edges are finished with the 3 rows of SC that it will fit him just fine. Please let me know how yours turned out. Thanks!

I have a huge amount of yarn left from the Baby Sport recommended when I finished the cardigan and hat. I made the newborn size. I too am adding 4 buttons. My yarn is pink, yellow, blue and white so I'm using those colors for the buttons with an extra yellow button.
