The dancers in the first two reels are Georgian Dancers. Mtiuluri is a celebration but a competition when they do a lot of tricks (like dancing the toes/knuckles and landing on their knees). This dance is reminiscent of a festival in the mountains.

Do they have anything (like special shoes) that makes the dancing on the toe knuckles easier or less painful? Because this look like it is so uncomfortable 😖 I tried to find information about it on the internet but couldn’t find anything.

@@lenavanhalen8446 Based on the information of one of the dancers (who was part of the show), they do wear knee pads. Also they (the gentlemen) do wear shoes similar to jazz shoes under the leather part. Think of it like toe pads for pointe shoes.

Irish dancer here! We don't wear toe pads. The tips are made of fiberglass with a very small platform. Because the tips are solid we don't roll through the feet, we actually hop onto pointe. Because of the way the shoes are made, Irish dancers are actually balancing on the tips of their toes with a little bit of support behind the foot, nothing like the box of a pointe shoe.

Wow! That last guy. Just DAYUM! Beautiful dancing. Even attempting the easiest part of the Rose Adagio, ( the attitude without the promenade and without the four partners to adjust to which is so difficult but must help balance on that foot for so long- like a barre)...props dude. Even the tiny slip after the second, I think was because everyone was laughing so much, and the third dancer just wasn't ready. That's my version and I'm sticking to it! Even though I am not a dancer. But it was the simpler moves that I adored. Just the (sorry if I get the terms wrong), ronde de jambe a terre, and into bourees- exquisite to watch. Stunning.
And the guy who flies into the air; There must be a measurement line for how high qualifies as a jump- like pole vaulting, or the high jump in pro athletics without a springboard right? That guy crossed it. I demand a dance off ("Leap" off-gedd...nvm), with Superman. No cheating with the freakin cape acting as a parachute letting you linger in the air for longer either Mr Superhero!

I’ve been out of Irish for a few years now, so I’m not sure how much the choreo has changed, but I used to spend a decent portion of time en pointe in my hard shoes. I found that the platform on my shoes pulled me back from my center in all the brands (there are a couple new ones I haven’t tried, so I can’t speak to all current styles), so when I was en pointe I had my weight so it was balanced between the block and my toes, though more often shifted further toward my toes than back. I never used toe pads, though they were just starting to be sold at dance competitions just before I retired, but when I was doing intense workshops, I did use a combination moleskin, blister bandaids, and athletic tape to protect my toes/nails from the repeated impact and add some cushion during the extra time drilling steps. I never did it preventatively during workshops so I could maintain my tolerance for those sensations, but I did protect all toes when the first blister showed up.

I did Irish dance for a few years as an adult. I found the whole hard shoe distributes the weight when on point. Some weight on the toe, but a lot on the heel and top of the foot, too. Smaller dancers get way up on their tippy toe in soft shoes, too. I wish there had been an Irish dance shoe fitter when I was dancing. I never felt like I wasn’t fighting my shoes.

They are sometimes padded, but basically you are dancing on your knuckles. Both men and women do this( 😁 I used to do it all the time). If you do it correctly, you don't feel pain. There are techniques involved to reduce pain😁 👍🏻 Hope this helps provide some insight to our cultural dance 😁👍🏻

WildlIfe rehabilitator, here, with some trivia about birds.
Birds have four toes, not five. They're arranged in different ways for different species, depending upon how they use them. Their legs have three sections, the tarsus, tibiotarsus and femur. What looks like their knee, isn't their knee.
Anyway, where did the fifth toe go, hmm? It evolved into their lowest leg section. Four toes joining at the distal end of the tarsus. So if you think about it... in a way, birds are always standing en pointe. Sometimes I can "feel" what it's like for them, because I've taken care of s much wildlife for so many years. :)

I saw Claudia Dean react to rhythmic gymnastics and would love for you to do the same. I’d also love to see you to fit a rhythmic gymnast and see what they can do! I loved the figure skater fitting and would lose my mind if you reacted to Oksana Baiul and Sasha Cohen as they are both really well known for their ballet inspired programs

The first two videos are dancers from Georgia and I'm so glad someone showed you! I've been asking for it. Instagram figured out I'm intrigued a couple months ago and I've been seeing those. I'd like to know what they're doing that allows the second man to do this at his age while ballerinas tend to retire to character roles and teaching or something else entirely in or before their 30s.

As some people answered, this (the first video) is traditional Georgian dance. Georgia is on the east side of Black sea, amazing culture, language and folklore. There're many types of dances.

The laughing isn’t because it’s funny, it’s because they’re shook and amazed how beautifully he did it. Remember, not everyone reacts the same way but there’s absolutely zero malice in that laughter. Be more wary of the invisible ones who’s stewing silently from a distance in these instances.
