If you find a swamp with no crypts, grab the big two-handed hammer. Smashing the ground you'll get notice if it hits underground iron, that you can dig up. Works for silver too if you don't have the Bonemass lucky bone yet.
@@Childishh_Brandino Stagbreaker or the Iron Sledge and the new Mistlands hammer that pounds ground work. You still get "too hard" from the indestructible large trees.
Great minds think alike, lol. I found my first swamp a few days ago and I instintively did the portal/workbench/chest on top of the crypt before finding your video. I was also doing your muddy scrap pile attack strategy as well; as long as there's a decent-sized chunk blocking the walkway it trips up the enemy AI, which leads to safe kills. I end up putting cart materials in the chest too, so once the crypt is cleared and all the iron is found I build the cart, transfer all the ore, then hightail it out of there, lol. Thanks for the info about the turnip plants, and I'll definitely set up a fire at the crypt entrance from now on. This is my first two weeks playing the game and it's been a blast.
I've started recently on iron age. When clearing muddy scrap piles, I've been smashing a couple times with Stagbreaker (does area-of-effect damage) -- listening and watching the damage numbers to try to figure out if there's something on the other side that means me harm.
The short answer is Yes, nothing too extreme, Drauger, Blobs etc some being Elite, the way to move forward is to mine the Iron on another server, this way you can mine, leave, go back to your camp on your server saving you time and stress of travelling distance with ore, once you have collected enough ore, make your first Iron build a Sledge Hammer, this then kills the enemy on the other side of the mud piles, hope it helps. I should also point out there are good Iron seeds to use, here's one I used and it yielded around 3000 Iron klW6PHmPNj
You should make the new weapon Iron Sledge as soon as possible. It's an improved version of the stagbreaker that deals more damage. It's at least useful to have on hand for the Bonemass fight since it takes care of his adds quickly and efficiently.
My go to first iron is hands-down the longboat. being able to move your iron faster back home is a huge win for only 10 iron investment and also is guaranteed escapes from the serpent. Skipping iron armor for silver is pretty good too.
Good advice on the portals. I do the same. Its a real crap shoot with the maps. My first playthrough I had strips of swamp too. It also only found the shop relatively late in the game because of its position. It was in some far flung corner, on this really busy little area where plains meets Black Forest. Basically the mobs just seem to aggro each other and converge right by the vendor so it was a little warzone and really hard trying to build a base and portal there. The current playthrough (probably with greatly enhanced and well polished map seeds...) literally the first time I set off exploring I found the vendor on the next island, and the island next to that was a huge swamp island. It also had a little area of plains on the back end.... which had the perfect little island off the coast so I could set up a portal off shore... and snipe lox. My map experience this time has been the exact opposite of my first ever game. Thanks btw. i didn't realise you could build on the crypt roof.
you should consider farming crypts with the antler pickaxe, you plop down a workbench on the side wall of the crypt make two 26 degree roof tile facing toward you above it and maybe two walls on each side and can repair the antler pickaxe right there without having to sit through the port animation all the time when you have to repair p.s. you should build the spice rack (cauldron improvement) and pick up blood bags from the leeches so you can unlock the black soup which is another swamp tier hp food which the second highest hp yielding food after sausages

I'm just getting to the iron age. Got room for a hoarder in your server? I pick-up and gather everything. In Skyrim and Elder Scrolls I was labeled a pack rat.
Correct but it is only one scrap pile. You have to swap out your belt for the Wishbone and you have to deal with surface spawn. I don't consider this a viable option if I have crypts available. I would only use the wishbone if I had no other choice for iron. For these reasons I did not mention it.
ok so something I need to address straight up, no, you should not wait to get iron pickaxe because upgraded bronze pick is better, you should not even make a bronze pick in the first place, the extra time it takes to mine with antler is much less then the time needed to get the bronze for useless pick and time spent going back to repair it (you can repair antler on the spot saving time), iron is the second pick you should be making as, unlike bronze, you actually need iron tier pick to mine specific resources
True, but the antler pickaxe takes longer to mine a single node of rock than the bronze. The bronze can also be upgraded to almost triple the durability of the antler pickaxe. I think it's worth it and with smart use of portals, as I outline in the video, your trips home should be no issue. There are certain circumstances where the antler pick is better, but I can mitigate those conditions with smart play. I also don't think the time needed to mine and refine the bronze for the bronze pick is that prohibitive, but the antler is an interesting options. I did test it and I personally prefer the bronze option. I don't think it is as clear-cut as you make it out to be.
@@diomed011 it may be my own bias, but I usually mine a single node of copper if any in the bronze age, usually having the elder mine one for me and or abusing a troll, the 50-80 copper needed for upgraded bronze pick is time that I could have spent getting iron already and skipping the use of bronze for everything but ship, necessary workbench upgrades and an axe, maybe coming back with an iron pick to finish upgrades and get some spares for cart or spears

Root helm is great, but I bring poison resist anyway because it's stronger. I can pop it if I have to fight a starred leech or something with harder hitting poison.
Different weapons are "better" against different enemies. When fighting skeletons and Draugur in the Swamp biome, a mace is MUCH better than a sword. When fighting other enemies, a sword is better. It may even matter what kind of a specific enemy you are fighting, what type of weapon you want to use. For example, when I am fighting the Fulings in the Plains, I find that some are best engaged with a mace and shield, while others are weak to the Atgeir (pike).
I just processed around 300 bars of iron in less than 4 hours of play, how? It's very simple really, don't look for the Bonemass swamp on your server, instead go and create other servers or use known seeds, this way you can make a bee line for the nearest sunken crypt and when it's time to go home, log out and log back in to your own server, unload the ore and go back, rinse and repeat, you still have to do all the work getting there but it's nice to know that getting back is a sure thing
That isn't an exploit my man. That's playing the game how you want. Honestly, I don't think I'd have done any different. Absolutely, bring a portable portal. That's what i call mine, but I shorten it to pp. Don't laugh. Then run your iron back to one central crypts' chests, fill a cart, make a run to the nearest beach. I take time to cut down brush in a straight line. I've considered building a raised road. I used a tree once and built a 4 tile wide, covered bridge over a gorge to get my copper back. Funny enough, trolls gather at the bridge.
