and I'm putting them all head to head to see if they've actually improved over the years.

My favorite impacts. The newer ones are smaller than some competitors "sub-compacts." And it still has the IP56 rating, meaning no worries outdoors

It’s a bit of confusing for us in Europe. We have the German Metabo and the Japanese HiKOKI which is in the US Metabo HPT. Both brands are awesome. I like Hikoki more, which the would make more woodworking machines.

They should have changed it to HiKoki rather than Metabo HPT in North America to keep it consistent for all markets. Not sure what marketing survey they used to determine the name or why NA got it's own branding.

because "hikoki" sound like chinese garbage to the average north american person and had the potential to not sell well at all, thats why they didnt use that name (It was an actual study, you can google it)

The short gist of it all is Hitachi sold the brand off to a US financial group after buying Koki industries and Metabo, and then changing the name to Hikoki. Here in Australia it is Hikoki and I think they kept the name as Metabo in the states because it is a recognisable name there instead of using Hikoki like it is everywhere else.

In the UK hitachi has rebranded as hikoki . I’ve used them for years. Not as popular at the local suppliers anymore, get better deals on dewalt unfortunately.
