Yeah man definitely! I'm glad someones finally saying it. Open world and complicated games were fun when I was younger, but now that I'm older I just prefer more linear and straightforward games. The last thing I want to do with my freetime is play a fiddly or bloated or complicated game
I guess that is one of the reasons as to why Doom 1, Doom 2, Doom 64 aged so well Because of how Simple They are once You get used to: - No looking up and down - No jumping - Auto Aim for dealing with enemies in low and high ground - No Crosshair having to use the weapon itself as a tool of where Your shots will go
I have adhd and there's a certain amount of complexity for things before I decide to do it. I have little mental energy and I am careful how I spend it. However certain things I can spend endless hours doing.
From an art perspective it's best to have restrictions in order to get the most out of your creativity. If you have every option you ever wanted, you're less likely to create what you want and waste time making too many decisions. I think there's a fine line of balance for games that can have a simplistic look but still be engaging for most players with more complex mechanics. Or maybe the opposite, where the gameplay is simple but the story perhaps is convoluted. Great video Buggy, I liked this retrospective of simplicity. Also that skill tree was insane 🤣 I would've quit the game too
Complexity and simplicity can co-exist as long as the learning process doesn't overstay its welcome and progression in the short term is obtainable. CK can be vastly complex if you engage with all of its mechanics and features. But it can simple and dynamic if you approach it from a role-playing point of view. Runescape sticks out for me more than any other mmo because of how much agency you had over your own character. So many role playing opportunities are possible because of the game not being locked by classes like in WoW.
I love terrafirmacraft-based Minecraft mod packs since terrafirmacraft makes Minecraft more methodical and slow paced. It’s like each in game day has its own chores and pace which is a vibe
I mean like, it’s way more complicated but I think the day to day activities are simplified bc you spend time grinding flower or looking for crops and animals to hunt in the wild
comment 4 the algorithms channel is fye my cousin ran runescape reminds me of good times with family love that game so much only have like an hrs worth of playtime tho haha

oh I love this, they gotta bring simple stuff like this back
I really do miss the simplicity and innocence of Minecraft. It's a very wholesome game...
