- This is my first impression of the BCD536HP digital scanner. I hope to do a full review soon. The Uniden BCD536HP is a great mobile scanner. The receive is good on this radio with tons of user options. Uniden made a great radio with this one. The 536HP is a great radio for mobile or desktop use. Check out my site for more scanner/radio reviews: monitoringreviews.com/

I just got my bcd536 hp omg what an easy scanner it was amazing ! The best scanner I ever had !
I'm digging this scanner, and after taking nearly a year, I went ahead and bit the bullet. There is so much to love about this thing. This one right here quickly replaced my analog version of it. I have seen reviews talking about the audio not being clear on the unit. Addressing this, it's not the scanner. It's pretty much like digital TV when the signal is weak and the picture starts to crumble. This is the exact same thing that happens with digital audio, the audio starts to crumble. The better the signal, the better the audio will be. Having a good antenna, indoor or outdoor helps solve this problem, keeping in mind that the problem could also be coming from the transmitting transceiver as well which there's nothing you can do in such situation on your end.
Thanks so for info and taking the time to reply...
Thanks for the review. I really like this base station as well. Cannot decide which unit I want.
Thanks for the info.
Would love to see you do a full review. How does the Air Band reception compare to the SDS200 and BCD436HP?
W do I know if the GPS is working it shows up on the screen with an arrow it didn't search for satalite like my other radio thank you
what antenna would you use. Assuming you are using a roof antenna.
I am looking to get this radio, once this radio is programmed, can you pull up a individual channel when you type in a certain number, say like i push 152 for Phoenix Fire, will that bring up Phoenix Fire?
I have this unit for a month now. What i dont like is the VFO knob.. Uniden is this an '80 knob?
Does this scanner also do the tone lock for FD?
@Tommy Long, I'm not sure how your scanner is losing the channel. Could you give more details?
I have this one,im new to scannning, got it on customs can’t figure out how to return to normal
What are those FO and SO on top left?
How did you get the TGID on there
Does the Atena work in small places
I'm thinking of getting one. is it phase 2 how's go up against others
I'm new to this. What can you do with this? How many miles of a handheld radio can you reach? Can you listen and talk with a cargo ship in the ocean 200 miles off coast?
great video
@dan theman, It depends on how you want to use it. If you want to move around with it a lot, then the 436 would be a better option. If it is going to be stationary, then the 536 is the one I would choose.
They are similar in features but different in form factor. If I was going from home to car with a scanner I would recommend the 436 because it is more portable.
+monitoringreviews moving just around the same area, city, town id use 536 Siren App leaving the scanner at home. With state to state maybe 436 is handy.
Is this scanner WiFi dependent? Thanks!!
I have a Uniden Home Patrol 2 and a TRX2 here I am comparing. Each has their plus and minus, I am appalled that the Home Patrol does not have a Priority, I would like my local PD to override anything else but I cant. I have it on the TRX2 but that one has a small screen and looking at the software abbreviation ids I cannot make sense of them. I like the playback button on the Uniden that is not on the TRX.
Does this unit have Priority?
Yes it has priority
Im using a 35$ gps on it i wanna see if its working. Cuz 100$ oem gps from uniden is expensive
@Hossein Hamidi Hossein Hamidi To turn off nationwide scan, press Menu>Set Scan Selection>Set>Select Lists to Monitor>Full Database = Off
mine just went quiet for the last 2 days i rest my settings an all it does is scan an picksup low band fire im stumped now any info on this would help me thanks
They went encrypted maybe.
how well does the zip code programming feature work? does this have various display colors. overall impression of this scanner?
No display colors, as explained around 2:40 in the video.
No LCD color, you gotta go to the new Bearcat SDS200 base at $699.95!
Hello there getting a 536hp as i speak as far as an antenna for vehicle is larsen a good name? which would be my best option, mhz....what range etc thanks for your help
Al Leclerc yes Larsen is good. MHz depends on the what the agency is using you want to monitor. Range is hard to predict. Usually about 10 -15 miles. The higher the MHz usually the less range you'll get.
my 536 hp just stopped receiving sounds for no apparent reason .i am using a sim card instead of the function keys .can anybody help me get the transmission sounds back on this scanner.the frequencies are not outdated as i have a hand held which works fine with the same frequencies .
I’m not sure what might cause that. I would suggest going to radioreference.com and asking in the Uniden forums
Would this be the mobile base version of the handheld looking homepatrol 2?
Adam Miller no. This is the base version of the BCD436HP.
Very new to this unit, how do I turn off the nationwide scan? I have managed the favorites. Thank you!
Call Uniden America Corp at 1-800-297-1023 or join www.radioreference.com and put that question out to the group. Good luck and Happy New Year-2019
Can you set the Nation Wide Systems to off/on with this Unit?
Kk Andretti yes
What the highest SD size can use , I have 32gb in 436hp, but getting 536 in a week.
From page 5 in the BCD436HP - BCD536HP owner's manual..... supports up to 32GB. Hope that helps.
great video.
+Mike Westphal I have the BCD436HP, do you know if I can simply program the 536 using the 436 Sentinal software setup? Or would I need to rebuild a favorites list all over again to work with the 536??
+Mike Westphal You can use the same set up in each.
Is the price difference from the Bearcat BCD996P2 of $341.90 to the Bearcat BCD536HP at $497.90 worth while? I don't care for a SIM card that can get damaged and you can't just put in a frequency, however I do like a full alpha tagging radio and it seems like this has better audio the BCD996P2. Any thoughts from people out there that have both?
I think the audio output is very similar if not the same from both. The 536HP offers on board recording which the 996P2 does not. However, the 996P2 is a great radio! The 996P2 is also able to alpha tag. I don't think you would be disappointed with the 996P2 if you decided to go that route.
Monitoring Times, the price is MUCH less too then the Bearcat BCD-536HP and I'm NOT hearing good things about zip code scanners with a SIM card. My friend bought a Bearcat BCD-436HP handheld and the Bearcat BC-125AT is MUCH better in audio quality(except no digital), sensitivity and a great radio. His handheld is horrible on VHF/UHF analog but now, Yonkers, NY Police just went encrypted. I cannot see buying a digital scanner just to hear White Plains/Greenburgh/Tarrytown and Dobbs Ferry Police. I JUST may go back to a Bearcat BCT-15X as I think my handheld BC-125AT is sold for a big profit as I have the Diamond RH77CA and it is going as a package. I'm also using a Baofeng UV-82 transceiver just to monitor analog police/fire. This radio at $29.95 has much better audio/sensitivity then ANY Bearcat handheld and it is a Chinese import too. Go figure.
Hello, I canta find if this police or emergency radio scanners are illegal in tx, if anyone know I will thank you a lot.
Can you operate this scanner with the programming software like..win500 or scancat or any of the programming software available? And do you know if we would be able to enter frequencies to it by hand that may not be on radio reference?
Marc, yes you can buy software, ARC536 from Butel. Also, the Sentinel software is provided free from Uniden, and you can program your scanner using that. Sentinel is what I use, and to me, it works great. Also, yes you can enter frequencies that are not in the RR database. Some have had complaints with the radio, but I love mine. So far, it's the best scanner I've ever owned, and I've had countless others in the past.
ProScan
What kind of antenna do you use. What would you recommend? Thanks.
Radio Shack 800 MHz is one of the best 800 antennas and it's what I use as well. Also the the Diamond RH77CA is a great VHF high and airband antenna.
Is there a mobile antana available for this unit?
I’m sure there are several options but I don’t use it mobile so I can’t speak which are good.
Have a 436, got a 536 for desk use
Nice
Scanner programming issues in Mississippi
Will it do a Database Update via Wifi?? or do you always have to hook it to a computer ??
thanks
Kk Andretti No, you have to have it connected to the PC to update the database. Or you can remove the SD card and connect it to the PC and update the database. Wifi is only for remote view/control via iOS app or computer.
monitoringreviews Thanks for the reply -- i have one on order..:)
Hi I Wish That I can Want That Police Scanner
So Bad.
I like everything but the display, was very hard to read for me. Also, the app works while on your home network, but not away from WiFi network
Scammmmm
@@kishascape I got rid of all my Uniden scanners and got Unication G5 pager
How’s the display compared to the 996p2 in white color
I prefer the color of the 996P2 myself
I just ordered the 536 today and hopefully I like it. I have a 996p2, but miss the replay function I had on the home patrol
The WiFi feature looks cool to
Which is new and better... the bcd 536hp or the bct 15x. Does the bcd also receive analog too?
Bcd536Hp is the newest and has the most features. I like it better than the 15x
It seems like the 15x is way more difficult to program and set up according to what I have seen in a few short reviews that they didn't seem to know what they were doing either. I think you need to make a video of programming the 536hp or the 15x. Thanks.
Does it receive analog too?
I just ordered the bc355n last night because the other's seemed way too complicated even for me. Just need to see the function button and how to get around and set it up I guess.
+John Smith thanks for the feedback. They aren't hard to program. They come with an owners manual and you can find frequency information on radioreference.com. There is also free software to help program called "freescan" from sixspot software. Yes both the 15x and 536hp can receive analog. The 536 can receive analog and digital.
j4real there are so many options that cover a variety of signals you may want to monitor. A decent all around antenna is the Antennacraft ST2 www.universal-radio.com/catalog/scanants/2732.html The ST2 is good for VHF-High band and aircraft monitoring. If you want to monitor 800 MHz systems then I would go with a 800 MHz specific antenna and invest in quality coax. The higher the frequency, the more signal will be lost through the coax. So a higher quality coax is beneficial at higher frequencies to prevent signal loss. A good yagi (directional) antenna will be great for 800 MHz. You point the antenna in the direction of the tower(s) you want to monitor. www.scannermaster.com/product_p/01-541821.htm Any wideband antenna (covering a large range of frequencies) will probably be okay for most monitoring but will likely suffer in the higher frequency ranges. Good luck, hope that helps.
What's the best Yagi antenna you could recommend for railroad bands? I'm trying to hear a detector 8 miles from our house and the transmissions use to come in fine with TrainTenna from DPD Productions, but ever since January 12th it's not receiving the signal at all. Just the dispatcher.
I'm guessing you live in Arkansas too lol
Hi. How much is the scanner? Thank u
I’m not sure what they are selling for currently. Check Universal Radio or scanner master for current prices
As of Dec., 2018, Amazon says $460
That’s a good deal
Now $373.50 on Amazon.com!!!
Oh wow! That’s a great deal!
phase 1...phase 2 what the hell is it....does it decode the voice ? or just gives you info ? what exactly is it ? just too follow the conversation ?
+charles philippe It's a technology used by motorola to modulate the radio signal. If your scanner can't decode the modulation, it can't pick it up. wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Project_25
thank you so much and the link
Phase 1/2 is refered to NAC-25 or a digital signal vs. analog sir.
I have a hand held Uniden BCD325p2 omg it is garbage I have it programmed using software it misses so much .I use an app and i will hear all these things go on with the app and the Uniden will be quiet
I hate to hear that. I've had great luck with the 325P2 in my area. It may be you are too far away from the transmitting tower to pick it up with the 325 whereas whoever is providing the feed for the app is closer to the tower?
@@monitoringreviews actually I have all the repeater towers programmed into the radio it'll be quiet for over a half hour why the app program has all kinds of stuff going on.
@@monitoringreviews well and actually one of the towers isn't that far from my home
Oh man. Not sure. Maybe you got a lemon?
wow that must cost a pretty penny

not better than the 996T. so why bother ? 5 years later, still way over priced.
The SDS200 is a better radio than the 996T. But the 996T and XT were solid scanners!
@@monitoringreviews Which should I get? I bought a HomePatrol 2 but it was dead out of the box. I want one that works.
