He brought out his best shoes for this demo. :p
Both pedals rock!!! i could never understand why people look for "marshall in a box" and pay 200 bucks for boutique pedals like , wampler plextortion, pinnacle, Carl martin plexitone and so on , MI audiocrunchbox (100 bucks) when you can have above mentioned marshall pedals for 60 bucks and have great tone!!!!
i had both pedals. now i own jackhammer and original shredmaster. Just wanted to say that Jackhammer's DS mode sounds exactly like Shredmaster.
im TOTALLY subscribing to Jack Black. He knows his shit.
These are the most underrated pedals in history... I have used a Marshall GV-2 for over 7 years, and it is one bitchin pedal --- you can pick these up for about $70 all day long...
Buying one for less than $20 used in excellent condition soon. Buyer doesn't like it and is ditching it for close to nothing.
You will like it, these are great pedals...
Same thing here with the Jackhammer, way underrated. Needs some time to fiddle with the mid controls, and the OD side is much better than the Dist. Once you find the right setting for your gear, though, it's amazing
Eu tenho o Marshall Guvnor e é o meu preferido pelos timbres a lá Gary Moore. Mas tenho vontade de pegar o Jackhhamer pois tambem é otimo.( I have the Guvnor 2 e Its great)
Jackhammer the best pedal i have ever had, still currently have it with 3 other different Distortions ( A Rat Distortion, Big Muff Fuzz, Paisley Drive). Hands best pedal i have played, so versatile.
Better than a Paisley? Wow!
What’s the jackhammer like at boosting an already overdriven amp?
@@garywilliams1858 not as good as their bb2 but useable! i recommend the jackhammer +bb2 Combo for full versaitility
@clicheguevara9917 good to hear. I have a Bb2 and am buying a Jackhammer
i had both pedals sold em and missed the jh1so picked up another Jackhammer Overdrive on it is killer
Got a Jackhammer JH1 today for $40. Build like a thank, and sounds great cause I use it as a bass boost/ clean boost. Sounds really good.
Dan DeWitt old comment, but I just figured this out myself. I’m leaving it on all the time.
The Jackhammer is the ultimate pedal for brutal bassguitar overdrive in my opinion.
Marshall's best friend is the Gibson les paul
Chris Clune A tele is a man's guitar.
+Ulla Wirtanen And an SG is the axe of a man who's made a pact with the devil.
Chris Clune yes it is
Every guitarist knows teles don't do marshall. Strats sg l.p.ok. tele Hywatt orange vox twin reverb
Ignorant comment sigh
The Velvet Jackhammer .I love it. the GUVner 1/2 is no slouch either. You Tube doesnt do the tonestack on eithet of these pedals justice. They are both amps in a box!
Quite happy you did this one, No one's done the gv2. I bought it out of the blue at a store cause it was just as much as a ds1 and clearance. quite happy i did.
Both of these pedals sound killer. That Jackhammer has BALLS. I'd use the Guv'nor for 60s style tones and Zep tones, and the Jackhammer for 70s-80s tones and DEFINITELY for that ballsy, AC/DC sound where you can hear the amp cab pumping.
I like the Guvnor sound better.
danelectr sounds more Marshall'y to my taste
YOU SOUND JUST LIKE JACK BLACK! Thanks for the vid. I've been checking out lots of pedals, and came back to youtube for some help after a few years of not even logging in. Stumbled on your vid relatively quickly along with another of yours and almost made up a three week decision in 20 minutes.
Jajaja, es cierto !!😅
I have the GV2 and before buying it did a side by side comparison with the Jackhammer and the I liked the GV2 more and bought it!
These pedals are underrated, built like a tank and sound AWESOME!
A Marshall's best friend is a Telecaster? Lmao!
+Biker Tramp Good for Status Quo stuff.
the GV-2 sounds much more musical to me.
THANKS FOR THIS COMPARISON!!!
overdrive mode on Jackhammer is pretty similar to Guvnor pedal at least it's possible to make both pedal sound the same on OD mode!
GUV'NOR!!! its much more musical in tone
Thanks for the head to head review. I was interested in both pedals but was undecided as to which way to go. However, thanks to your review I now know the Guv'nor is more suited to my style of playing..... Love the boots :) keep wearing them ... Cheers mate!
The Guv sounds real.
The guv'nor sounds sweet but i think im gonna buy the JH1. Thanks again GMD for helping me choose. You are the guv'nor!!!!
It would be helpful to the people watching the video if we knew which controls are being tweeked...all I can see is knobs being turned throughout the video; without knowing what you're turning. Doesn't give the viewer much of an idea as to how each control functions without being able to see what's being turned.
A Tele sounds great thru a Jackhammer. Using a Fender Lite Ash with stock pickups thru one into a Blues Deluxe. Pedal OD is at 12:00 and I leave it on all the time. One thing that these reviews don't show is that the pedal is touch sensitive. Set the guitar volume a little above 3/4, lighten ur pick attack and u can play play full clean chords then play hard and get a great distorted tone. For leads, just max the volume. BTW less highs at the amp will fix the ratty fuzzy top end.
Either of those sound great for any old-school rock.
Can you do a comparion video of the original Marshall Guvnor from c1990 with the Marshall GV2+, please?
Sounds good, I've always been a big Guvnor fan.
Though I think the vintage Guvnor sounds even better by quite a bit. Only problem is finding one and if you do they are usually pretty banged up.
Fortunately I was able to find a guy under the name "Stomptone" who can make me a clone. I've heard his version A/B'd against the real deal, I was really impressed and I think he nailed it, a lot of the schematics out there are pretty bunk.
I might even make a vid of my own comparing it to the GV-2...
i use the GV2 for a really harsh punky/hardcore sound and i love it!! very versatile pedal, can get blues, metal, rock, punk, hardcore, grunge, classic rock and thrash sounds out of it if your smart and you try hard enough. shame they arent true bypass, HOWEVER the bypass is pretty damn good, dont let that turn you off this pedal!
GV2 sounds more like a tube amp. JCM 800 maybe.
@RSguitarEFFECTS I think I will.
Hopefully this clone won't disappoint me, I haven't been able to find any other clones that actually nail its tone based on clips. This guy making it actually gives a damn about relying on his ears in the process, which in the end I think is what really matters not just getting the schematic right.
alex machado me tire uma dúvida. esses pedal e chinês ? Qual é o original?
Please some info about the setup;the amp settings and guitar pickups, thanks
@Pillnut I use a hughes & kettner switchblade, and I have a marshall AVT2000, but I want some cool thingy on my hughes, I bought a Wampler Super Plextortion and I love it, thanks you!
Owned both some years ago and they managed to make my Ampeg Jet sound like a Marshall...MG. Got rid of 'em for a Tonebone Hot-British.No comparison.
Happy i have the Guv. It sounds more punchy to my ears. The Jack seams to miss something I can’t really put my finger on. But it’s awesome only the Guv fits my ears the best🤘🏻
Jack hammer maybe, because it have 2 mode give us more change to explore sound, distortion i think good taste for rock
3:05 was the sweet spot for the Jackhammer.
GMD, could you please do a side-by-side comparison between the Guv'nor and other Marshall style OD pedals, like the OCD, MI Audio Crunchbox, Wampler Plexdrive, Xotic BB? Thanks!
@grizzlibear500 the only good thing i can say about the Guv'nor plus is the great bass response it has, but yeah other than that its on point for the cheap price
Ok obrigado
I like both and they sounds similar. the JH has more gain. which one In should buy for my Mono channel ampli head plexi style Marshall Origin 50H ?
Which one would be best to boost the crunch channel on Marshall tsl60?
Hey GMD, do you think you could get your hands on a BK Butler Tube Driver and demo one of those? I've seen a few demos but they don't seem to do a great job showing all the features of a tube driver.
The JH-1 seems to have a more pronounced low end. Does the GV-2+ 'Deep' control allow it to match the JH-1's low end?
I requested this! GMD is the man!!
I think that the Jackhammer JH1 is the best pedal to play heavy music... it´s something like gold and Boss metalzone is the silver (the second best).
I got a jackhammer today. It's got a lot of balls in it. A lot.
Sounds good with a bad monkey before it going into a clean valve amp.
these pedals are so underated,
marshal jackhammer !! tank you this is the sound I was loocking for
Hi GMD a question for you those pedals are with true bypass very nice review cheers !!!!!!!!!
@The1970sInfatuate 100% agree
GOV'NOR GV-2+ - sounds more full
JACKHAMMER JH-1 - sounds more nasaly, tighter, and more scooped, at extreme settings it can sound a little compressed and too nasaly, but still good.
***as always, it depends on what other gear you're using, how all of your gear complements/works against each other, what sound you're looking for, how it feels, and what you're willing to pay***
What do you recomend today like Jackhammer JH-1? Must be better pedal afrer 15 years ))
@Rapadi87 Cool thnx a lot !
@RSguitarEFFECTS Thats what I want to see/hear. I have the GV-2 and it doesn't sound anything like what i remeber of the O. G.ov'
@ZakkHendrix666 thank you ! I'll buy that one
I actually have the Jackhammer. I used to love it, but swapped it out for my Luther Drive :)
The jh sounds more expensive and a bit warmer imho
what would be the best option to get a Marshall type distortion from a Fender champion 100 solid state? The Jackhammer/govnr or a Mooer Solo? i would like to play nice lead stuff like slash
I doubt either will break up well with those Fender speakers
+GunsNRoosendael BOSS DS-1 works, just roll the tone down.
Perhaps MI Audio CrunchBox
i never played a guvnor but have owned a jh1 since they cane out. a jh1 on od channel with volume 10, gain where you like it (i usually go about half), 0-2 on bass (the bass on jh1 is really muddy...the secret of the jh1 is no bass imo) then set the mids (contour and resonance) at zero and slowly dial un your tine. throw on a nuce reverb especially a fender verb perhaps a lil delay and you have a great lead sound!!!! good lu k!
@Gabriopunk77 gee, thanks... it has cool price too..
Wich Sound do you use on the JH 1?
jh-1 sounds more agressive
hey !
I wanted to ask you something, wich pedal do you think is better, the digitech bad monkey or the marshall guvnor? I like playing rock n' roll, you know acdc stuff and all that kind of music...
I hope you can answer!
I have the Marshall Bluesbreaker BB2 overdrive pedal. Sucks so hardcore. Its only saving grace is the clean boost mode which gets a great, light tubey breakup. The overdrive setting sounds so digital, though. These sound like they have similar issues.
Boost mode is wonderful specially used to stack another overdrive
5:13
"YEAAAAAAAAH!!!"
are these pedals affordable? i like these.... good for bluesy kinda thing..
I totally agree
@billiejoecovers Out of the 2 I'd say the Guv'nor is WAY more Slash. The Jackhammer is more of a metal distortion thing going on whereas the Guv'nor is a smooth overdrive like Slash uses. Check out "sound like slash for under 1000", It's a great video. :)
I like The Hackhammer thanks for the vid man
Marshall's best friend is a vintage Gibson Les Paul. Like your black one.
Marshall guvnor plus is better for my Power-Blues Sound! Great!!!
gain which is better jackhammer or gvvoner ?
The Guvnor's got some snazz!
@billiejoecovers You should get Slashes hands, his mind for his note choice and vibrato, his Les Paul and ofcourse his AFD 100 marshall head. And if you want to play November rain as soulfully as him, you'll probably need his heart. :)
Guvnor makes your amp really sound like a vox, or are you using a vox?
Can you tell me what where the settings at 3:06? If you can
Dear Gearmandude! If you can, please, do competition for Guv'nor Vintage, Guv'nor Korean "GV-1" and Guv'nor GV-2 plus! With respect, your subscriber MyOutMind.
@Gabriopunk77 @Gabriopunk77 single coils or humbuckers, blues or metal, high gain or sparkling clean... use whatever that works man. fyi, Paul Gilbert uses DiMarzio's Injector pickups, which are of single coils.
@Rapadi87 Yeah, I'm not hearing that pal.
where do you get all these pedals?
definitely the GV2 for punk, probably the JH1 for grunge, but you can get mucky grunge tones from the GV2 and great punk sounds
Pedals are almost the same thing, I like the Guv'nor better though. Cool boots:)
whnever i see one of your vids i cant help thinking the you're woodie harrelson playing... anyway, great videos man!
which one is better for punk and grunge?
@Gabriopunk77
telecaster has bean use for the blues... in generation boy...
and it it really nice play... i have play a telecaster... it is awsome tone and uniqe
wich one is the best for 80's metal?
Nice
Im breaking my head to get one of those guv'nor now =( I want some... marshallish overdrive to crank my hughes & kettner crunch channel... hope it works xD I really need to be a lot more... marshallized xD
is the jackhammer good for heavy blues?
lance ong yes it is!!! what kinda guitar do you play. I have used this pedal for almost 15 years and it never lets me down
The Jackhammer sounds closer to the old Guv/Drivemaster.
These new Marshall pedals are not so good. The delay - the Echohead - is the pick of the lot. Nice and dark, tap, stereo.
There are better pedals out there, but I owed about 3 Guv'nor. Sold bought, sold bought back again. Its a real cheap and honest pedal, will make crappy amps sound like a marshall. What more can you possibly ask ?
After I got my Blackstar HT-5, I gave it to my girl's brother-in-law, because I just refused to sell it for the third time. lol
Rock on GMD! I Just subscribed into your channel =D
peace
but, after all, a tele is great to show off some pedals.
You need the originals!!
Do you have one that you prefer?
70's Townsend in there somewhere.
jack, where have you been?
@afanofyou his name is Eric Whorton
is this pedal very affordable? how much? i like these
