I've been a Kate Bush fan since I was just a kid, now I'm 44 and can honestly say this girl has done one of my favourite songs justice. Performed with real emotion, a beautiful cover.
I love Kate Bush with all my heart, and 'Cloudbusting' is my favourite song of all time. I expected to be quick to criticise this cover, but this is actually really great! Simple composition, beautiful instruments (love the soft thud of drums in the background) and lovely voice. Very lovely, a very pleasant and refreshing take on a phenomenal song.
I first heard this version six or seven years ago, and every once in a while it comes to mind. Each time I listen to it it blows me away. Well done, Gemma Hayes.
wow, i think that kate bush is one person that is quiet hard to cover and i approached this with a bit of scepticism but this is amazing... such a nice, clean voice that hits the mark on all levels...:-)
Bellissimo, Gemma Hayes, I know "Kate Bush" is smiling and honered that you would choose one of her fav. songs and sing it so tutta bella:)*:) Numero uno song and performance***** I luv it very much, loamo:)*:) "Chin Chin" Cinque Chente Anni Blessings sempre, Katerina Roma, Salute Ciao:):):)***:):):)
still dream of orgonon I wake up crying You're making rain And you're just in reach When you and sleep escape me You're like my yo-yo That glowed in the dark What made it special Made it dangerous So I bury it And forget But every time it rains You're here in my head Like the sun coming out Ooh, I just know that something good is going to happen And I don't know when But just saying it could even make it happen On top of the world Looking over the edge You could see them coming You looked too small In their big, black car To be a threat to the men in power I hid my yo-yo In the garden I can't hide you From the government Oh, god, daddy I won't forget 'Cause every time it rains You're here in my head Like the sun coming out Ooh, I just know that something good is going to happen And I don't know when But just saying it could even make it happen But every time it rains You're here in my head Like the sun coming out Looks the sun coming out Ooh, I just know that something good is going to happen And I don't know when But just saying it could even make it happen Just saying it could even make it happen The sun's coming out Your son's coming out
I was lucky enough to work on some of Kate's Lionheart Tour and with the best will in the world, generally covers of her songs make me slightly cringe but this.. this is something really special.
@aerialkate I appreciate that you are a Kate Bush fan, (As am I ,from The Kick Inside). You obviously haven't listened to any of Gemma Haye's other songs before you commented on her voice. As for the production, It is difficult to get the same production on a song when you are singing live. (please remind me when Kate last toured). The Director's cut was released due to production issues on Kate's previous work. Gemma did a lovely cover, that was never released and is obviously a fan.
@aerialkate "Write your own songs, or at least do something imaginative with someone else's." cud'nt hav put it better myself, thats more or less wot I was thinking wen I heard this.
Nice cover but not enough to topple me listening kates origional...maybe more a creepy atmospheric version would suit you better....love all your music by the way.
Kate Bush is incredibly hard to cover well. I often see people who acknowledge this fact but who then go on to say 'but this was great!' to a cover that is actually quite disappointing. I make it my mission to not do this, and instead compliment the band on their taste in liking Kate Bush music, but then say their cover wasn't great. I can't do that in this case though.
I am not a Kate Bush fan, she irritates me mostly, but now and again there is a song that makes me think , "I like that one!" Cloudbusting" is one, "Running up that Hill" another and "This woman´s work " is getting to me too lately. This lady has a fine voice and she has done an excellent job of preserving the feel of the song, whilst making it her "own" in terms of delivery. Just watched another cover, where again the singer had a great voice, but you just felt that she didnt really get the material. Makes it all a little shallow then. A bit like my budgie repeating things he doesnt comprehend! You dont´t feel like that here
Leo McCormack No, i just like good music, whether it be Satie, Elgar, Clannad, Runrig, Celtos Cortros, Bob Marley Paco lucia, led Zep, Thin lizzy Fleetwood Mac,Tiniwaren and any points inbetween. In some cases I just like the odd track, as with Ms Bush. I know my musical tastes arent necessatily to the liking of others and I repsct thier own choices, learn from them on some occasions, but that is the joy of music. You dont have to stick to one genre. Flamenco Fado or Foofighters, bring them all on! Lol
I'm tired of artists stripping down songs from the '80s and singing them in a low key voice. I suppose that fella who did the Tears for Fears cover kicked it off. I know 80's production could be a bit overblown at times (not Kate Bush though, who always bucked the trend), but it's just too damn easy to pare someone else's tune down to a simple piano or acoustic guitar melody and sing over it. Write your own songs, or at least do something imaginative with someone else's.
Soulless? Says who? Just because this doesn't resonate with you doesn't mean it's soulless. There's a version where you can see her play (Live at Crawdaddy's) and you can tell she's putting all of her emotions into it. That's soul if I ever saw it. I keep coming back to this cover because I find it haunting and it brings out a certain emotion in me that I can't find anywhere else. You're entitled to not liking it, but who are you to call it soulless?
I don,t think it is mispronounced at all my friend , I think it is meant to be Orgon as in www.orgonics.com/whatisor.htm A fine rendition of a classic all the same and one of our own
I stand corrected, I guess Reich's farm was called Orgonon. The confusion came from the original Kate Bush video where the men that take Donald Sutherland away come across a copy of The Oregon Times. Thanks for the link.
The word is orgonon. It is defined as "an instrument for acquiring knowledge". In the context of the song, it's talking about the Cloudbuster and how the maker's knowledge of the machine was a threat in the eyes of the government. It's not orgone energy like the first reply said lol
Gemma played this in a tiny pub in the middle of nowhere in Ireland about 15yrs ago - blew me away then and still does..

Same. I was super-skeptical at first -- it's good though. I like the ambient guitar too.
@@StatsGod It's a lot differrent without the sawing cello(?). I hope they add in that part at some point. Brilliant!
Agreed. I could see it being at the end of a movie in the credits.
I first heard this version six or seven years ago, and every once in a while it comes to mind. Each time I listen to it it blows me away. Well done, Gemma Hayes.
I just love this song an indescribable amount.....beautiful version of an absolute beyond stunning piece of music....the way it builds....
This woman has such a unique voice. It sounds so smooth in some places and then raspy in others. I like it!
this is gorgeous. first time i heard it was at gemmas gig in crawdaddy back in jan, great to have this version!!
I bet Kate Bush would love this version. It still has the atmosphere of the original but
stripped down. Love it.........
Great cover of a great song. Just as haunting and thoughtful as the original; just different. Thanks.
Wish people would just go somewhere else if they have nothing nice to say. Would make it nicer for the rest of us. This is a beautiful cover.
I was very dubious when I saw the title..... LOVED IT! This'll be played round the flat for a while :P
Wow. What a voice...
Heard her sing this in Leixlip recently, beautiful.
Great voice, great song!
I love Kate and this is a great cover! I'm a new fan of Gemma now
The best cover of this song i've heard, very stripped down
wow, i think that kate bush is one person that is quiet hard to cover and i approached this with a bit of scepticism but this is amazing... such a nice, clean voice that hits the mark on all levels...:-)
It's hard to cover Kate Bush but this is very good!
Less is more. Pure joy :-)
Amazing! Thank you!
I almost fell out of my chair when i saw she did a cover
Excelente interpretação! Parabéns!

i love gemma hayes, there ive said it
Well this is incredible
Great cover of a great song!
this is beautiful
still dream of orgonon
I wake up crying
You're making rain
And you're just in reach
When you and sleep escape me
You're like my yo-yo
That glowed in the dark
What made it special
Made it dangerous
So I bury it
And forget
But every time it rains
You're here in my head
Like the sun coming out
Ooh, I just know that something good is going to happen
And I don't know when
But just saying it could even make it happen
On top of the world
Looking over the edge
You could see them coming
You looked too small
In their big, black car
To be a threat to the men in power
I hid my yo-yo
In the garden
I can't hide you
From the government
Oh, god, daddy
I won't forget
'Cause every time it rains
You're here in my head
Like the sun coming out
Ooh, I just know that something good is going to happen
And I don't know when
But just saying it could even make it happen
But every time it rains
You're here in my head
Like the sun coming out
Looks the sun coming out
Ooh, I just know that something good is going to happen
And I don't know when
But just saying it could even make it happen
Just saying it could even make it happen
The sun's coming out
Your son's coming out

Nice cover, big fan of Kate
fantastic version of my favorite song, hon Gemma, up Tipp (from a Dub)
great!!!
Yea great, love it...I just can imagine Kathleen dancing her way into eternity, but finding her way home eventually..where her heart feels no Pain....
Yeah, Gemma made it even though it appears incredibly difficult to find another good interpretation of this jewel of a song.

Well done. Big shoe's to fill.
Did Kate bush have big feet?
nice....there is nothing else to say..........
2019
My biggest criticism is getting the lyrics wrong. I really wish she hadn't.
@aerialkate "Write your own songs, or at least do something imaginative with someone else's." cud'nt hav put it better myself, thats more or less wot I was thinking wen I heard this.
Interesting, but I still like the original better. It's nice if it's really live though.
mixed in dubly

Very nice Gemma and even better without the creepy Donald Sutherland.
Nah

this is so soulless I can't even bear the whole thing. FAIL
