it was so hard to top White Pony and when this album wasn't that I think a lot of people canned it. A tough act to follow. I personally love it.
I don't think this album is underrated by the fans. I'm even rather surprised that Stephen's Play-Through videos include this album because the band itself seems to want to forget it. They have long since removed all the songs from the self-titled album from their live shows. I think I read somewhere that Chino said that the album was related to a period he wants to forget.

The Deftones have been a part of my life through deaths, life, kids, divorce, new love..and they have stayed true to themselves
I remember sitting on the patio in E. Lansing Michigan with a few of my friends that were visiting drinking and getting high listening to this album. We went "What the fuck was that?" And listened to it at least 3 more times. Beautiful tone

Literally my 2nd all time favorite deftones song and have been checking everyday for this. Such an underrated album and song. I bought my Stephen Caprenter 8 string to literally learn how to play this (and many others of their songs of course) and it was such a great day
It would be cool if the whole band had the time to do their thing, and put all five of you in the video, either live or edited. Smoke some bud and get in the Zone, and put it together. Lamb Of God did it, and it worked. Peace ✌️
PS That's one of the gifts of the internet. If y'all can't get together, you can online. Stephtone is working hard, doing your thing. Motivate the rest of the band, when they're not busy with family business, and in the writing process. I think getting together and perfecting the songs you already wrote, is like stretching your muscles. It could spark an idea for a new song also. Peace ✌️

This song means so much to me. I was listening a LOT to this and basically all of the self-titled back when I had just started college and was going through a lot of changes in my life. Deftones' music has been present in my life ever since I was a young teenager.

I remember getting this album a few months after it dropped; that Christmas, in seventh grade. These songs were ahead of their time in several aspects. They were slow burners for me, as I remember not getting into this one until much later. That's self-titled in a nutshell - a series of timeless gems that need to grow their roots in you.
