    We had this exact model in our house from 1966 on, brought back from my stepdad's 1965 USN Med Cruise tour brand new.s I recall many of his military colleagues either swore by Grundig or Telefunken as their "Hi-Fi of choice", where German made units were concerned anyway. Thanks for these 10 year old kid childhood delivery memories.

    You are not using the auto function on the record player correctly. You need to place the record at the top of the autochanger spindle, and secure it in place with the arm. Then when you switch it to start, the record will fall down on to the platter, striking the size selector lever, and the pick-up will land in the correct place. Then, as the arm has fallen down when the record fell, the pick-up will return to it's stand when the record has finished. I think it can hold up to 10 records. Incidentally, I think the auto mechanism needs greasing, as the turntable was struggling to turn when it was engaged

      Yes, I could not help but wonder what was going on, put the record on the autochanger turn it on and let it do it's thing. I would also read the instruction of the tape deck
      'cause the tape is not threaded correctly an AKAI 4000 should perform as good
      if not better than bluetooth

      Yes, to both of you. He clearly has NO clue as to what the hell he's doing with both the changer and the reel to reel deck! Also makes me suspicious as to whether the electronics were repaired / restored properly - as the playback devices clearly were not! Additionally, is he not aware that there are input switch-boxes available (cheaply) that would prevent the cable juggling act between the Bluetooth receiver and the tape deck? Mr. Joyemusic, please do take the advice given so freely here, your future customers deserve that much!

    It tone arm will start at the end of the record if you lift the record up and let it drop on its own

    Hi, nice work. What are you using for the preamp? Maybe I missed that in the video. If so, I apologize.

    It is clear that you have done a great deal of restoration, for which you should be commended. However, you are not operating the record changer correctly. The unit is an American made VM changer, and you can find the model # on the underside of the changer. Gary Stork at VM will be happy to help you with it. On to the tape player. You are not lacing the tape correctly. Refer to your owner's manual for instructions. Both the tape machine and record changer need to be cleaned and lubed. They are both amazing, very well engineered units and will come right back to life for you when cleaned properly. This is a lovely console.

    I think the tape is wrongly laced in the reel deck. You are not using the capstan on the right. So no wonder it doesn't work correctly.

      The pin on the right is an auto-stop, like if the reel runs out of tape. The speed issue is related to the slip of the reel -- Not enough slip on the take-up, I think... although that's the first time I had that problem. But, yeah, there are probably some subtleties that I could learn on these things! I didn't grow up with them.

    I found one of these on a local auction site and the price is still under $100. I have zero knowledge of hi-fi equipment but my fiance is into records and we wanted a console for the house. The site lists it as unknown working condition. Would you recommend picking one of these up if it's a bargain? With little knowledge do you think it's a good project to take on? Thank you! Yours looks fantastic.

      Nice find! If you're good with fixing things, you'll probably be able to get some of it working with YT videos. They generally take a lot of oiling, greasing, replacing bad belt (o-rings), etc. The electronics are sometimes not too hard to troubleshoot, but it does take some skill and especially attention to the deadly voltages present inside!! Sometimes up to 450volts!! If course, you can find someone to fix it, but it'll cost $1k-2k probably.

      @@JoyeMusiccom Thank you for the reply! I am pretty good with repairing things so I will take a swing at it if need be. I will probably talk to some friends who are electricians to see if they have any insight on the voltage inside. I appreciate the advice! Thanks again!

    Hi! Did you replace the power cable? I have one of these but can’t locate a power cord for it anywhere! It’s the old 2 prong

    • @JoyeMusiccom
      @JoyeMusiccom  10 месяцев назад

      Yes, I actually installed a power strip inside and rewired it so a few outlets on the power strip are switched when the top is opened. Of course, I left a few outlets so the user could reconfigure it if desired.

    Why show devices not operating correctly because they are not being managed correctly and need maintenance? I'd be embarrassed.

    you may be electronically smart but your not very mechanically smart thread the tape properly and it will work correctly
