Thank you for this. Heart breaking mismanagement of Vancouver Island’s big old trees. We can blame the prior decades of government, and systemic issues without the changes required. Diverse ecosystems going, gone forever. Losses we won’t recover from.
All our forests are in trouble. Just look how many truck loads of WHOLE LOGS are being shipped overseas. How may sawmills have been shuttered. Lots of good jobs gone.
Been doin tree work since my first job out of high school topping and removing danger trees . Trees leaning towards the line endangering the power grid I climbed some of the most hazardous trees . One in particular was hit by lightning split in half about 70 feet up a can't even remember what kind of tree it was . I knew it was the only climber on the crew that would do it not to mention the green horn. Thanks for not doing a damn thing at work Richard Reinhardt. I now know good honest workers and people who take advantage of a nation wide tree company.
Thank you for caring about our Mother Earth. Here in Ontario our government is allowing the last remaining old growth White Pine and Hemlock to be cut down within and around Algonquin Provincial Park (for profit). Further north, our government intends to allow mining corporations to clear cut over two hundred thousand hectares of Boreal Forest to allow for the creation of open pit lithium mines on First Nation land. The Colonialism never stopped, it just put on a smiling face and a mask and now instead of soldiers massacring villages and exterminating Buffalo to starve indigenous peoples, the courts and the RCMP are being weaponized and militarized to act as Corporate Mercenaries.
If Richard Reinhardt is still cutting trees I hope he has learned not to take advantage of strong willingness to work tree man. And let a man climb in the company who couldn't out climb me on his best day off.So much bull shit because people don't know how to properly train and treat people equally.
I watch a old growth logger’s channel in BC and he’s constantly showing the vast amounts of old growth timber, thousands of square kilometers. So sorry for Not believing you. Maybe you should try living in the top of an old red cedar for a few years.? Get away from technology and become one with nature and all that jazz, probably do you some good 😊
That’s because there is tons of old growth left, either it’s inaccessible or protected, profit is the main goal and going for these trees in a inaccessible areas doesn’t make a successful and profitable operation.
Please name specifically, where on Vancouver Island we can go to visit the big old trees in diverse ecosystems you indicate remain…. there’s a big difference between spindly thin old growth trees far up a mountain side. Many British Colombians are interested in those big old growth ecosystems… The very ones loggers want to cut for the timber value, and for profit. Where can we go (outside of parks of course) to see these “thousands of square kilometres”. of old growth ecosystems you speak of? Be specific, so I can go and visit one myself soon!! Interested here is Vancouver Island specifically!

Terrific job on this terrible tragedy.

I'm voting Green next time, hopefully they won't sell out the environment for the sake of temporary profits and self enrichment.
Sounds like your problem is with the First Nations people.
