Perlman is simply a genius. His interpretations are always so thrilling it's hard to put in words. For me, it's a beauty in its purest form.
I have listened to so many people playing this, but this has to be the honey, the gold, the most amazing rendition ever. I would give anything, ANYTHING to meet this man.
Best interpreration ever of the Mendelssohn violin Concerto. I'm a cellist but emotionaly we all understand, and he plays with a lot of emotion this concerto that in my life i don't see any best interpretation. Thank you very much!
I remember watching this Concerto live at the Houston Symphony, his interpretation is nearly unchanged, and happens to be the most beautiful thing I have ever heard.
Божественная музыка...Гениальное исполнение...Очищает, осветляет душу... Спасибо !!!
Of course this IS the greatest violinist playing the greatest violin concerto written thus far.Thank you Messrs Perlman and Barenboim. :-)
The best performance of one of the most perfect and beautiful pieces in history. If not THE most...
This is the finest virsion I've ever heard. Pearlamn told me with his violin that music doesn't need to be in a really fast tempo into order to show off his skills. But feelings, bowings, phrasing.
the best mendelssohn playing!
I absolutely love LOVE this.... no fancy words or descriptions necessary...
I absolutely love this no fancy words or descriptions necessary...
everything that maestro Perlman plays is a masterpiece
This is the performance that I am most familiar with and by far my most favorite.
Perlman is perfection!
Somehow it gives more life to whatever he plays. You are right. It's a beauty in its purest form.
I love this music. Melody is profound and gorgeous. Intepretion is excellent and impressive!! Thanks for uploading! =)
i love both chang and perlman's renditions. in compromise, i'll just listen to one of them every other day. ^^
one of my favorites .......love this
Perelman,Oistrakh, Menuhin and Kreisler palays this concerto imazing, magnificint.
Sublime. Thanks so very much for sharing 1 and 2.
how can you not like this??? how??
true!! she's amazing, blends modern and classical music wonderfully!!
Ima see him perform this very mendelssohn violin concerto in about a month in toronto...so very thrilled about it
Itzhak Perlman is the best violinist of every times. Your emotion, your tecnicles, don´t exist igual.
Браво! Огромное спасибо!
I have this version in my computer and it's one of the best concerto I've ever heard!
The best intrep of this piece hands down. Bravo.
Breathtaking-Bravo !!!
this is soooo beautiful..
Gran interpretación.
Shalom.
Oh my god. it took me so long to find perlman's version of my 2nd all time favorite piece, and wow. this is better than hilary hahn's version! this is probably one of my favorite of perlman's interpretations.
sarah ma what's your all time fav. piece?
theoriginal639 hard to choose, but it always was and always will be the tchaikovsky violin concerto in d major :D
sarah ma lol nice choice, but if i was forced to listen 1 thing for the rest of my life i would choose, Bach Concerto in D minor BWV1052, from Gould.
so...beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OMG!
Lovely emotional piece
nah way man, Im a dubstep producer and I LOVE classical. Alot of my inspiration comes from a good chopin or ravel. True fans appreciate good quality music, of any genre. one love.
perlman is absolutely the greatest
Gracias !!
Splendide
I feel the same but this Concerto is a splendour!
Mendelssohn is like Schubert to me -- both have composed such fantastic music, but I can only appreciate a selected amount from each. Their music is such a hit and miss, but in the case of this concerto it's a blow to the face.
My music hero.
I think your nuts, pearlman's and chang's interpretations of this piece are spot on. If you are going to say they lack emotion, by all means lack to one that does by your definition.
I think he plays it beautifully.
The beginning is so nostalgic
Clean!
I love the cadenza
i like thise song!!!!
SUPER
Bravo, Maestro Itzhak Perlman for me is very great Violinist, Hy interpret with the heart,i am not violinist, but for me he is surnaturel and i like him so much.I am lyrics singer and my dream is to singing with Him, but is very difficult speaking with Him personal.....is my dream, but i don't know..... maybe i cann to have chanse with Him speaking.....is incomplete this video. But bravo Maestro Itzhak Perlman You are together the best for me 🎻🌹❤️
Very good
This is the best interpretation from one of the Greats(tm) I've heard. Heifetz plays it too fast, maybe because he learned it before he could appreciate it's emotional depth and then just turned up the speed dial and precision to impress. The best I've heard was a live performance by our local concertmaster Naha Greenholz, not a great by any means, but the emotion she brought to the piece was perfect. I doubt she'd match Heifetz's tempo, but that wasn't necessary to move the audience to tears.
C'est merveilleux
c'est du lourd
maicol2931ruiz-FANTASTICO,EXCELENTE,BELLISIMO,¡¡¡BRAVO!!!
Como un jefe.
amazing! love itzhak perlman! i wish we were related :) haha
Wow a dubstep + classical music fan :D I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE :OOOOOO
Sin aliento... es DIVINO...
In my opinion this is a very wise choice of tempo, it allows perlman to be very expressive at the beggining and to be clear throughout the whole piece. Heifetz's tempo is more exciting in my opinion, I love both to death though. Thnkas for posting.
O interpretare stralucita !
I'm just like you! Even the symmetry and stuff!
wow... Itzhak makes it live so much that I can almost touch the music like I can touch a women!
super
Perlman RULES
i just started my grade 9 violin... wow this piece is hard
@Amarynthine For me it's about the bitter-sweetness of life mainly, although it runs through the gamut of emotions, there's hope, confrontation, sadness, acceptance... it's not about thinking or imagining, it's about feeling.Hope that helps.
hey now, I love classical, especially Itzhak, and I've played the violin for years, but I also love dubstep. Not all dubstep junkies have zero taste in music, haha. Actually the thing I like about dubstep (besides the sound effects, and this is just good dubstep mind you, not the insane random bangs and screeches that armatures throw out all too often) is part of what I like about classical. I love the patters and symmetry, the mathematical science of music that is captured in it.
One day I was sitting with sheet music from the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto Nr. 3 in my hand. The title to the music was in Russian, and read "Рахманинов" so nobody really was able to read the title. Then one guy came up to me, asked to see the sheet music I had and after looking at it, trying to impress but not understanding what it was said "Oh, that looks easy."
Yours is that kind of a comment.
@Gozaburo1 In my opinion it's not about tempo itself, the point is that Perlman's interpretation is more lyric and introverted, while Heifetz's interpretation is romantic and extroverted. Whether you prefer one or other depends on your personality, but you must admit that the both interpretations are beautiful and emotional in different ways, and both of them are fantastic and unique.
I played this concerto a lot of times and i know who play it amaizing
For Wmd10... Would it be possible to have the whole concert? I only have 18 minutes from the 30-32 of the full piece.
The main theme is so perfect. I do not know why Mendelssohn would not repeat it later in the movement.
perfecto
Felix Mendelssohn- Violin Concerto in E minor op. 64, Mov. 1° Allegro molto appassionato (孟德爾頌,E小調小提琴協奏曲第一樂章)
@Johannes999999999 Well technically it does show up later, either by the orchestra or in a different key. It shows up in G Major at the beginning of the first "springboard" section.
Fair enough.
Thanks a million for uploading this. But I am sure this is not the performance from the concert with ma, and barenboim. It gotta be from some other concerts, or simply studio recordings.
@Johannes999999999 This is such an urgent, forward-moving piece, i think simply reiterating the theme would cheapen the brilliance of it. The mysterious main theme is always there... just never in the same way. It's what I love about this movement!
holy shit
sarah chang plays like a robot. this is beautiful.
@Gozaburo1 I agree with you!
I love both Itzhak and Heifetz but I agree with you goza
@lorditachijr That may be true, but with such a long movement, simply reiterating the theme when the piece returns to e minor would be very satisfactory.
@Coolcat607 it's my favorite part
for another version of this, search quad threat by genelec & memphis reigns on youtube. its sooooooooo good
maicol2931ruiz ¡¡¡Grandioso!!!
You must be either nuts or Sarah Chang's cousin. Listen to Chang w/ the NY Philharmonic and she plays like a robot.
While it's true that Perlman recordings have tended to sound overexerted and maudlin, particularly in his many later years recordings, but this Mendelhsson is a gem. It shows his shinning talent which propelled him to the forefront of violinist. And yes, for this piece, he plays a whole world much more romantic than amateur Chang does.
yes, i see that. and if we listen to all violists on this peace, we will there are lots of differences in speed, bass, and emotion. Ivy's play sounds a bit cold i think. I love Perman and Sarah Chang on this peace, and i love Heifetz's record too
same
@Johannes999999999 But I still completely agree with you about the theme. I love it and wish it were a little more prevalent.
@Johannes999999999 Yeah I think that would be completely appropriate and very nice. But the transition he has in there (before the final section) from major to minor is so powerful I don't think I would replace it if I were him. Maybe just change the first few measures of it, but the page-long transition he has is still great.
yoyo ma and perlman are best friends :]
you're officially hilarious
Why can't we see the live performance on RUclips? I've had the dvd, but it got stolen and I've not been able to find it again.
If you like this one check out the Heifetz one. He's like twice as fast as Perlman.
I love I think Sarah Chang and Itzhak are on the same level :-)
I much, much prefer the pace of this version to Heifetz'. Beautiful.
where is second part pls help me!

@jasonman071 I thought you meant the 20th century music, in french, the music from the first half of the XXth century is called modern, excuse me.
he made it sounds so freaking easy....I can barely play to the half way point without screwing up...
