Hi Logan. Its actually nice enough to live in, shhh don't tell the wife lol. I am very happy with it and cannot wait to get the Observatory started. Clear skies mate
@@Astroblokei have tried but since I fly the little 4 seater planes with limited space inside, I've been limited to using my GoPro and so far the version I have is not great at night but I'm hoping to upgrade soon. 🤗
Looks absolutely stunning Glen. Love the anthracite windows and doors which I think give it a real high end finish. Even if you take your time and don't finish for a couple of months you're only missing galaxy season really. Can't wait to see what the finished observatory looks like.....gonna be amazing ! I reckon you should go for a proper bean to cup coffee machine in the warm room !! Great video 👍
Hi Paul and thank you for the kind comments. I am very happy with the office, it really has a nice premium finish. Checking out coffee machines while mulling over design ideas for the obsy. Will need to make final decisions soon and get it finished.
Now that is a very good point, I really cannot wait to start using it but its such a large project it is taking a while to complete. I am sure it will be more than worth all the effort once there. To be fair the weather has been pretty poor for Astro so been quite lucky to not miss many good opportunities
It's looking better all the time Glenn. I have a Dunster House log cabin as warm room and office which is seven years old now. It's been superb and will last way longer than 10 years. Looking forward to the next instalment. Cheers. Mark
Looks like you are on target to finish the majority of the building work by the end of March , and from the look of your progress your first light from the complete observatory will be before the end of April, thanks for sharing your build Glenn
Hi Tony. I had hoped to be done with all the main works and back imaging by the end of April so you may be right. I am just mulling over my roof design as its a 12ft span so needs to be strong but I want to not make it ridiculously heavy
@@Astrobloke That's a long span Glenn will be interesting to see what you come up with mate , at least in the UK you don't have to worry to much about snow load lol
Blimey mate!! that's fabulous progress, what a build! :-D It'll be interesting to see what you come up with for the obsy ROR now! Keep up the cracking work matey, loving it!
Thanks Luke really appreciate the support mate. Lots of thoughts on that and I think it will not be too dissimilar to how your roof works with a lipped overlap. Seems the best way to go so far but my plans keep changing. We shall see. Clear skies mate
Thank you for watching and sending such a kind and supportive comment. I will hopefully start the Observatory part of the build soon and follow up with an update. Clear skies
Great work Glenn ! You are really full of surprises ! Pleasure to see Simon too, his work inspires me for the construction of my own observatory. I'm under construction now ! You both give valuable advice to the community and I can't thank you enough. Greetings from France ;) Mary
Hi Mary and thank you so much for the kind comments. Simon is a builder by trade so very knowledgeable indeed. I am very pleased our videos are helping you but please if you do have anything you would like to run past me please do. I'd love to see some images of your project. Astrobloke@outlook.com is my email. Good luck and clear skies.
Looking great Glenn! Interesting to see some of the different products and techniques used over there versus here in the States. Love those doors and window. Looking forward to the actual observatory. Your office looks to be first rate. Take it easy.
Hi Richard and thank you. I can imagine designs and construction approaches are different in a lot of ways. I know other countries deal with a lot more extreme conditions than here in the UK. Observatory next but due to work cannot start that for a good week or so but will get on it as soon as I can. clear skies
Excellent video Glenn! You’re really capturing the build experience and sharing it nicely mate! People wanting to build their own observatory will undoubtedly get inspiration from your build videos! Great job, can’t wait to see it all finished, and a big thanks for the shout out mate👍 Just don’t forget a space for the coffee machine 🤣 Clear skies
Thank you Simon and thank you for all your support, guidance and help. I know many were inspired by my budget obsy and I hope this is as helpful for others wanting to do something a bit bigger. You are welcome for the shout out mate, I meant it sincerely, your Observatory is very impressive and really shows what can be done, especially in a smaller space. Clear skies mate
Tremendous job Glenn! I’m really enjoying seeing this amazing project take shape. I definitely don’t have the building skills and expertise you clearly have, so I’m more than a little envious! I’d love an observatory like this.
Thank you Stuart. I am lucky to be quite a practical person and have good friends and family on hand to help and advise. I actually cannot believe what I am going to end up with, bit of a dream come true. Clear skies
Looks stunning. Does the height of the warm room limit visibility in that direction? You are probably going to get 6 or 8 times the effective integration efficiency compared to the old setup with 2 scopes and darker skies ?
Hi Nick. Yes the warm room will cut the angle in that direction but its to the West of the scopes. So any targets are actually dropping then and coming to an end of imaging for the night, but I also have an orchard of 15 trees the other side so it was always limited in that direction. I cannot wait to get stuck into a proper project once I am all done and I think I will notice a massive difference to the skies I left behind. Already I have found editing so much quicker and easier due to minimum or no gradients to deal with. Thanks for your comments and clear skies
@@Astrobloke Makes sense ! I can't wait until you start imaging. The skies here have been so bad the last 4 months. Looks like you will be unstoppable once this is all up & running !
When you are done, I will put my order in. Where's your obsy build business website ?!! Great job Glen. Not sure how you determine the best dimensions for obsy ? Seems tricky.
Maybe if I was younger !! Thank you for watching and commenting. It is very tricky. Simon already wishes he had made his even just a few inches bigger. But so many considerations like wall heights ax well as floor space
Glen, great videos certainly inspired me to get on with mine. Just started on my Observatory, and have followed you by getting a Dunster building. Couple of points you could help me with. Does that timber base come with the kit? and how did you achieve true north on your piers?
Hi Stewart. Yes everything is included with the office. Very nice kit and not too difficult to construct just a bit of work. True North….now there’s a question. I used a couple of iphones and a compass. I knew if I was within a degree or 2 there was more than enough adjustment on the mounts. I still breathed a sigh of relief once I was able to polar align and check them.
A lot of work completed, well done. I was just wondering about the field of view for your telescopes, will the office roof block your view a bit in that direction?
Hi Rob and thank you. Yes it will mean I cannot shoot low that side, That direction is West. So the targets are falling to the horizon and coming to the end of being imaged anyways, Also I have quite a few trees that way too so would not gain anymore sky if the roof was not there.
Thank you, its getting there now. The building comes fully insulated with celotex in all the panels. 25mm in the floor and walls and 100mm in the ceiling so should stay very cosy indeed. Just to make sure I am adding underfloor heating and laying a laminate over the top
Looking even better, Glenn. It's always good to see Simon too. If this "astronomy thing" doesn't work, you can certainly go into carpentry.
My body says that the Astro thing has to work lol. It was Simon's first visit since the concrete pour so he was surprised to see the progress.
Well that came together nice and quickly. Now you have somewhere "to live" while building the observatory part. Enjoying the watching the build.

That's a very beautiful workspace Glenn, great work you have done there.
And you're right, Simon's obsy is real craftsmanship
Thank you Siegfried, i am very happy with it. Looking forward to the next stage of the obsy

Thank you Jeremy. I am looking forward to that too. Hope you have a good trip down, sorry I am not here,
