    I’m Catholic, this is played at many a Mass. Had it played at my Mom’s funeral by her request. Beautiful hymn. Shows we are not so distant from each other. I Pray that one day our Faiths reunite. We are better together than apart as Christians.

      It is glorious but in most western Christian churches we have resorted to pop-gospel. That is so dumb. In my denomination in the country where i am we have a hymn book which is branded and everything. It has this beautiful hymn, praise to the Lord the almighty, praise my soul the king of heaven, a mighty fortress is our God, immortal invisible god only wise, yet in the break where we used to have the singing of beautiful hymns such as that, we now sing I love you lord. If i had power over singing i would definitely change it.

  • @CJWJR

    As a Christian, I prefer singing hymns over the newer contemporary praise songs. While I don't enjoy singing every single verse of some hymns, this is definitely one that I enjoy singing all the way through. The only downside of hearing this song in church is that it sometimes makes me laugh because it reminds me of the episode in which Mr. Beans goes to church. :D

    Lift up your voice and with us sing,
    Alleluia! Alleluia!

    Thou silver moon with softer gleam,
    Alleluia! Alleluia!

    Alleluia! Oh, praise Him! Alleluia!

    Ye clouds that sail in heav’n along,

    Thou rising morn, in praise rejoice;
    Ye light of evening, find a voice,
    Alleluia! Alleluia!

      The Sovereign holds the title 'Defender of the Faith and Supreme Governor of the Church of England'. These titles date back to the reign of King Henry VIII, who was initially granted the title 'Defender of the Faith' in 1521 by Pope Leo X. When Henry VIII renounced the spiritual authority of the Papacy in 1534 he was proclaimed 'supreme head on earth' of the Church of England. This was repealed by Queen Mary I but reinstated during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, who was proclaimed 'Supreme Governor' of the Church of England.

      I certainly wish I could play. The organ and the piano are my favorite instruments. My mom used to be able to play the pipe organ. The problem she had, and I likely would too, because we both play completely by ear, is when hitting the key on the organ, the sound comes out a second later. Very tricky when you depend on the ears to keep you on key.

    Noticed that the new Prime Minister R. Sunak (then only a Cabinet minister) was singing along to a Christian hymn. Very ecumenical as the new PM is Hindu. Props to him for joining in. An appropriate hymn for a Hindu as God's creatures include cows.

    I wonder how the children (8 and 6) are supposed to follow this hymn if it's the first time they heard it. And to follow the words, especially the 6 year old. I wonder if their mother sings it to them at home so they will be familiar with the melody - but that would lessen the impact of the hymn if they are hearing it for a second time. Of course, in time they will hear it again at future memorials.

      Technically it isn't suppose to be sung until Easter. She is Anglican and since this is not a Sunday service it is allowed Whereas, the Catholics do not. It's just good to hear a beautiful hymn and the Royal Family singing.
