And now Egon is a permanent ghost in canon. :'(
What???????
@Stefano Pavone but they will honor Harold
You predicted the movie
@@1darksoul786 Yup.
Damn you are a time traveler
I love these episodes because they have a dark twist, creepy vibe to them. I miss the 80's/90's cartoons like this and transformers
Funny thing about Ghostbusters and Transformers, they did do a crossover in comic form, and Ecto 1 was an autobot named Ectotron.
@@LisaMarieParadee I had seen/heard about it. I would love to read the comics
I thought it was for kids
If it's a physical being, the traps won't work. So they have to destabilize it, turning it into something the traps can lock on to. That's why it affected Egon like it did.
Many supernatural entities can have total physical manifestations. Usually, the physical body needs to be weakened or destroyed first, before the spirit can be captured. This wasn't the case here.
This was established in The Bogeyman episode, where they invented the device, and used it again here. Pointed taken away if the vlogger doesn't know that much about the show he is critiquing.
You guys are adorable how much you care. I say this genuinely with respect by the way
Ray says "I blame myself" 1:35
Peter should have said "so do I"
Omg yes
I immediately thought the same thing
Yeah like in the original Ghostbusters movie Egon said I blame myself and Peter said so do I and now in the cartoon Ray says I blame myself and Peter doesn't say anything not even a so do I
2:08 Yeah Peter. Poking ghosts is Egon's thing.
It's always the quiet ones 😂
That’s sounds so wrong😑
@@davidbrady6077 no, it doesn’t
Peter why are you fingering egon ?.
@@wesker100000000 woah, let’s keep it pg
0:33 the "ghost' they are fighting here is actually a demon, so not a standard ghost. The destabilizer is used to destabailize the demon Arzun into a ghost so they can trap him. Egon also invents this in The Bogeyman is Back" (I guess in case kids didn't see the syndicated episodes) to trap the Bogeyman after he escapes his realm.
Now only a bit of the destabilizer's got through before it backfired onto Egon, but there was enough residual energy in the air so when Peter, Ray and Winston fired again, Arzun got the residual energy and was detablized.
Great explanation (・∀・)
@@billieshomelife8313 thanks!! This was one of my favourite episodes growing up. Although I missed this part the first time and started just before the bust at the candy factory.
Someone predicted the future through entertainment, again...
Who else watched this video after the release of Afterlife and loved seeing the PKE meter reading Egon and the terror dog and the romance of Egon and Janine. Love how you referred to Afterlife and then this episode as almost a mini-movie and then they used elements of this episode in Afterlife :D [cue spooky Ghostbusters music]
Boy, that didn’t age well… nor did Janine’s quote regarding her being afraid egon was going to die
I find that scene to be a reference to this episode
@@luiscolon9624 What a surprise! A reference. Maybe the new movie should have been named "Ghostbusters: References". The sequel should be "Ghostbusters: More References"
There is that same quote in tje live 1984 1989 Ghostbusters movie too that she was afraid egon is going to die 😳 😬
The issue with Proton Pack being left is stated by how many of those things are made as a backup. One Janine uses, One the Rookie Uses, One Tully uses, One just happens to be lying around when all 4 are stolen and/or missing. Probably to cover the accidental requirement of recharging equipment. I mean if you go on vacation you always carry a spare set of batteries, don't you?
In the defense the Real Ghostbusters even addresses some events when the Containment Unit is offline with Egon saying "We have 60 seconds before the containment unit goes critical mass" and later episodes he says he hooked up a backup generator that can supply enough power for 5 minutes, or he makes Janine petal for power to keep the containment unit active.. she says she is going to charge extra by the mile
Overall they do keep some continuity issues to a minimum.
When they brought Egon back they jinxed it a couple years past and then boom 2014 😭 Rest.In.Peace Harold Ramis
This episode was a foreshadowing to Harold Ramis' passing away.
Was thinking the same thing!
No it predicted afterlife
@@thehybrid4324 That was a good movie! I cried towards the end! 😭
@@YautjaSpacePirate everyone in the theater I went to stared crying
@@thehybrid4324 it also predicted the return of the terror dog
That destabilizer would make for a cool cosplay piece!
I always figured the proton packs weren't as effective against Demonic entities because the PK energy is on a different spectrum. Remember the episode when they were investigating a disturbance and Ray asks "Hey Egon, what if this thing isn't supernatural, but Paranatural?" (Or something very close to that) Egon replied "That's a possibility!" Basically Supernatural refers to anything that was once human, like Ghosts, but Paranatural would cover things that never had any human influence or history whatsoever, like Demons.
I mean the proton streams can effect gods, and it's not too far fetched they've catched at least a few demons in the original film. They did in the sequel, the game, and in the comics. But there's also the possibility that they developed the packs better in the first or second film to deal eith this like that. Bor slimer, the subway ghost, or some of the other non looking ghost entities from the film or other media were humans
@@trealsteve No. Both are *spirits* but completely different types of ones! It's like comparing a cat to a giraffe or a whale.
*Ghost* : any living human/animal's soul who has died/cannot return to it's body whether it has found peace or not yet; something that once lived and belong in the living, material world that no longer is living.
*Demons:* Spirits, typically evil/bad intentional spirits that does NOT belong to the living and material world and that has, or usually doesn't have a physical body - that's why they want to possess living beings. Demon are not currupted dead souls that hasn't found peace yet. It's just alot of ghosts in gb universe that no longer remembers their own identities and life that make them often begin to look so unhuman. Like slimer: he once was human but as a ghost his food obsession still corrupted how he looks even tho he isn't badly intentional at all.
@@poweredbymoonlight9869 Actually, I don't think Slimer was ever human at all. In the DS game there is a guide to ghosts and it says some were globs of slime that gained consciousness. I think it mentions Slimer has similar origins.
Class 5 and above are usually beings that were never natural lifeforms to begin with.
Better to describe Class 5 entities as spirits.
Class 6 can be described as monsters, Class 7 as demons.
Kinda weird that this episode of The Real Ghostbusters happened 20 to 30+ years before the actor Harold Ramis who played Egon in the first two movies actually passed away. It was nice they honored him in the new movie and played him into the story.
Definitely in my top favorite episodes. Love the montage. And can't go wrong with a terror dog cameo.
At the beginning of this video you said the thing they were fighting at the beginning of the episode was a *demon* . It's well established in the movies and this cartoon show that the methods they use to fights ghosts don't work other paranormal beings. The had to cross the streams to fight Gozzer and they had to change their approach entirely to fight the boogie man.
The Ghostbusters concept was and is based, when it went in dark spaces like this.
And now the blue terror dog with the phantom Ghostbusters toy set makes sense now!
I have that set and I always wondered why the Terror Dog was made translucent blue in color.
Now it makes sense.
Ray must be a timelord (Doctor Who) when he says he reversed the “Polarity of the neutron flow”
Jon Pertwee ftw

I'n Loving memory of Harold Ramis 😔
Oh god.
Takes ghostbuster to a new level 😅
"Bustin makes me feel good"
I do have to say, the whole thing with Egon not letting Ray use the PKE meter makes sense to me. Since Egon is, technically, a ghost, he'll get picked up by the meter too. Therefore it'd be easier to have Egon point them in the right direction rather than risk having the signals of Egon and the ghost they're trying to bust get mixed up.
Also, Egon's 'death' scream is horrifying, even as an adult. Getting your molecules destabilized like that must be *painful*.
Love these reviews you do. They are fun and funny! Please make more!
One of my favorite The Real Ghostbusters episodes, I'll never forget Egon's scream when he gets zapped by the stabilizer.
Who’s here after watching afterlife?😢

@@trealsteve they said..... well ray said Jon pertwee’s line “reverse the polarity of the neutron flow

Is it just me or should this be a weekly nostalgia series?
Well, this is an interesting video to be recommended in late November 2021...
Absolutely solid pick for a review. A personal fave!
Heh solid.
Saw the movie. Cried. It paid some serious respect to Egon.
Ahhh how relevant this episode is now
Little did they know Egon would indeed be the first to become a ghost in the live action movie Afterlife! Of course, we all have a finite time on Earth. How long? Who knows.
Damn, The Real Ghostbusters predicted the passing of Harold Ramis and spoiled Afterlife...
Man I forgot all about this episode. Looks like a Saturday morning episode. I remember my brother and I when we kids started noticing the difference in the artwork between the weekday episodes vs Saturday morning ones. A lot of the Saturday ones tended to be more dynamic while only some of the weekday ones were.
Good pick for this video.
The destabilizor was to upset the stability of the power coming from Arzoon so the Ghostbusters can capture it. The destabilizor does have a purpose.
Yes, and it’s not like they never made more equipment before like in Ghostbusters 2 with the slime projectors. It makes no sense to deride the episode for making other devices.
It needs to be made into a real action version
@leslie hicks i know there should b some guy who looks like egon
@leslie hicks true that
Tell that to Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
peter don't stick your finger into egon lol
@Ghostbustersnews its kinda crazy that this happened with the new movie centered around the same thing; Egons ghost! This makes the 2nd foreshadowing of Egon/Ramis's death. The 1st was in the 1984 movie when Jenine said she's usually very psychic and was afraid something terrible was gonna happen to him. She was afraid he was gonna die, which she said during the scene called Lois Tully's terrible night. You know when he got posessed by the terror dog, Vince Clortho. Now thats creepy considering that he actually did and was the only
This was a highly entertaining video. Very well done.
As a kid I didn’t think about it much but I figured later on the destabilizer would be a portable version of sending demons, ghost, entities to other dimensions. And also like others have stated that the throwers wouldn’t work on said demon just like how traps wouldn’t work on the boogeyman (at first). Awesome review by the way. Thank you.
Maybe this episode predicted Harold Ramis death.
I just saw the new movie, your not gonna, (#####) believe
1:53 - Slimer also went through Egon, why? He's a ghost too. He should smash against Egon.
Egon wasn’t a full ghost.
Confession time folks; how many of you saw this episode started crying? This is some heartbreaking moments in 80s cartoons
Wtf... these old cartoons have a really weird way of predicting the future.....
On the Ghostbusters afterlife the scene in which the ghost of Egon said farewell is one of the must emotive scenes of the franchise 🥲🤷🏻♂️
Does anyone recall the episode where I think it’s just Egon who goes into the containment unit?
I always remember that being my favorite episode as a kid, but I can’t remember what the title of it was...? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Yes it’s the Christmas episode. It’s called “Xmas marks the spot”. Egon goes into the containment unit in a suit to rescue the 3 ghosts of Christmas they accidentally captured.
@@collegeguy799 Aw man! Thank you! I saw it a lot as a kid and couldn’t remember what happened in it. I appreciate you!

I've seen this episode before this is my favorite
Here’s your answer on the destabilizer
The destabilizer Is used on paranormal entities that aren’t ghosts so the ghost busters turn them Into ghosts so they can be trapped.
This hits different after Ghostbusters Afterlife.
The irony was that Egon (Harold Ramis) was the first one to pass away in real life. 😭😞
2 things 1 this was uploaded on my birthday and 2 RIP Harold Ramis wish I could meet your ghost
Came back to thios after seeing the movie
A fun video. I had forgotten all about that episode. As for GB Afterlife... I'm just gonna say it... if they include Egon as a crappy digital likeness... I'm going to be super pissed
………
Oof
Are you mad?
Yeeeaaaaaahhh about that
Yo I need to know this answer
Art imitate Life. R.i.p Harold Ramis
I was taking it seriously until Ray spoke and all I heard was Fred from Scooby Doo-
That's...because they're voiced by the same guy: Frank Welker, also the voice of Megatron from The Transformers (the ol' skool 80s cartoon) & Transformers Prime.
Speaking of Freddy from Scooby-Doo, as far as the cartoons go, I'm like 90% sure that aside from a couple exceptions, Frank Welker is the only one of the original "Scooby-Doo Where Are You?" voice cast to *still be doing the thing*.
I'm glad that the other Ghostbusters, Janine, and Slimer saved him. I don't want to spoil too much of the episode.
I love this episode 😍
The terror dog being cannon in RGB was no surprise, in the RGB / XGB timeline the 1984 movie was based on RGB's exploits.
But yeah, I do love me some fanservice.
When I saw afterlife I instantly thought of this episode
So technically, after Egon ”dies” he just becomes a human/ghost PKE meter!
Loved the review and whole heartedly agree with you on every level about this episode
ironic thing is, i don`t remember this episode airing in the Netherworld,.. i mean the Netherlands ;-) :-P
OK this is very creepy you have a huge big bad demon and a terror dog and Egon dying? Is this like predictive programming? They literally did almost the whole plot to the new movie with Egon's ghost helping the guys and then the same 3 guys peter ray and Winston were left. What are in the odds?
Actually, the destabilizer is from the much older ghostbusters cartoon and 1960's version. The destabilizer stops ghosts from being able to create a giant umbra monster. It takes away their hard shell, so you can grab them with the proton.
I am a big expert
Just like ghostbusters afterlife
I just realized Slimer sounds like Bunjee. I think it was Bunjee. Does anyone remember that early 80s cartoon?
I don't remember the cartoon but there's a couple of episodes here on RUclips.🍻
If I recall correctly, I think that the stabilizer is a proton gun variant that was very rarely used for ghosts and demons that were more solid and much more resistant to the proton stream. {Like the bogeyman.}
So I guess this means that Ghostbusters Afterlife wasn't The First Time that he had Died 😱
I’m 9 and I love this show!
Deadcon 1 is one of my favorites. Ragnarok and roll too!
8:16 Love the DBZ sound fx
That’s denial, one of the stages of grief
R.I.P Harold Ramis. R.I.P Egon.
They spent all that time and money to build a gizmo that would save egon but instead of using the thing they just build they use a old peice of equipment that might save him and it doesn't. What the heck ray!
Hi , what season and episode is this video? Thank you
*SPOILERS FOR GHOSTBUSTERS AFTERLIFE*
Egon's official death is no surprise, but when that PKE Meter activated soon after he died, that's what got me.
I think the destabilizer was to make the demon more into a ghost. In the episode “The Bogeyman is Back”, Egon said they couldn’t just trap him alone because the Bogeyman is not a ghost, but a solid manifestation. Plus their proton packs wouldn’t work on him because of it. So Egon made a device which would turn the Bogeyman into a ghost long enough so they could trap him. This was probably a similar situation, and I think the destabilizer was meant to turn the demon into a ghost-like figure. But since it was previously untested or the demon was able to deflect the beams, it backfired.
in Extreme Ghostbusters series, Egon is leader of the team
Reverse the Polarity of the neutron flow! Shout out!!!! \./
egon definitely blushed when Janine kissed him. Too bad they didn't get together in the end.
That’s what fan fiction’s for. I have my own where they do get together and have children.
Master, have you discussed the Doctor Doctor episode? Please do.. Please
Thanks for posting this. The movie was done right.
Bruh the moaning...I was on another screen when I heard him and her making that noise. "Oooouuuuuuuummmm." LMFAO
"bustin makes me feel good"
A Destabilizer would actually be very useful for turning revenants into bustable ghosts.
I’m guessing the destabilizer was one of their whacky untested equipment test runs.
Egon also died in the IDW comics in the International series.
Indeed and the Prime Ghostbusters sought out the help of RGB Egon to help restore him, which they did eventually.
Being I never read the IDW Real Ghostbusters comics, how did Egon die?
@@JB0071051982 technically, Egon ( not the blonde one) did get vaporized by that villain and the whole team and recruits from the other realities defeated the villain and got Egon back
@@ChibiProwl: Well, it’s a bit complicated but here’s what happened. Spoilers ahead.
The series starts out with the guys busting a Class 6 at the United Nations. That ghost could spit acid and it hit Egon on his upper leg. The guys manage to catch the ghost and get Egon medical attention when they’re approached a Scandinavian businessman named Erland Vinter. He hires the Ghostbusters to take care of ghosts on Poveglia Island in Italy so Peter, Ray, and Winston go to Europe, Egon stays behind because of his injury. While at the island, the guys find a piece of cloth with some writing that correlates to something Egon was researching several decades earlier. The guys go to Paris to bust ghosts(where that piece of cloth gets destroyed) and then to Ireland to do a favor for Walter Peck.
What the guys don’t realize is is that Erland Vinter is a proxy of an immortal warlock named Loftur Thorsteinsson who is after a powerful Icelandic spellbook. He hoped to use the Ghostbusters to find the book under the guise of them cleaning out haunted real estate. Egon however saw they were being used forcing Loftur to confront him. He asks Egon to join him to find the book because he himself had looked for it at some point. Egon of course says no. Loftur then vaporizes Egon hoping to use him as blackmail. The guys get back from Europe only to find Egon’s been killed so they enlist the help of RGB Egon because he can make sense of his counterpart’s notes. Loftur then sends a message saying that if the Ghostbusters get the book they get Egon back.
So long story short, they find the book and Egon comes back from the dead.
@@leahryan5560 Thank you!
If your favorite character is Egon, it's really heart wrenching to see him suffer. You can also tell in Ghostbusters afterlife, there's questions whether Janine ever became Egons wife? Sad to say most definitely not cause when she kissed him in this episode, sadly for Janine Egons feelings for her were obviously not mutual. He jerked his head away as soon as he could and kept his eyes open the whole time.
They predicted this in Afterlife.
Also, the amplifier in 1987 would cost 192.4k today.
Did he just pronounce it Neetherworld? Hahahahahaha 😂
Hey its Allen Love commenting from a different phone. Anyway the part where Egon asks how did you guys get here, it sounds like a different voice actor. Listen, ia it just me?
