I've mained healer/support characters for my entire time playing MMOs. I've been trying to research the differences in playstyle between bard and paladin without much success so far. This is the by far best resource I've seen yet that clearly explains the differences between the two support classes in this game. After watching this video, I think i've finally settled on maining a Bard. Thanks for helping.
@@Aiyulol Thanks! I mained a disc priest on several vanilla wow private servers and classic, and bard seems like the most similar class. Lots of tools, but it takes some experience, skill, and knowledge of the fights to use them most effectively.
@@Aiyulol you have made a mistake - paladins Godsent Law HP shield affects anyone in range of AoE. Not only paladin himself. Atleast thats how it works now on Russia server.
In short: Paladin is active melee playmaker class that can heal, protect, counterattack and have options for anything. It feels fast and mobile. You play it if you want everything in one character and playstyle. Bard is class that you play if you want to be an inpenetrable wall for damage that comes to your party and do not care or even do not want to do dps things at all.
I agree one of the best videos to get the differences by side by side comparisons, take in mind that the paladin has close to no healing at all while leveling up to 50 due to the fact that all the healing comes from engravings what are only available at the start of end game.
@@Aiyulol Yes you did a great job, but i want to ask one question though. Why you didn't tell anything about counter attack capabilities of the Bard and paladin, how they gear themselves and how this gearing affects those classes and playstyle?
you outdid yourself with this video Aiyu, TOP tier informative video, my favorite video of yours. Hopefully new peeps can now decide between the two easily ^_^
Yo it's crazy that this video is 9 months old and yet still so relevant. I personally don't play support but my duo partner mains supports in every game we play. She prefers Bard, but does play Paladin as well and I really wanted to understand the difference between the two. This was so well put together and explained that I am blown away! Excellent information, video, and production! I'm sad that I can only give a single thumbs up for such a great videos!
I love this presentation. It's so professional. I used your skill build guide for leveling and have the raid guide spreadsheet saved. Will be curious how artist turns out. I love the paintbrush/animation/sound aspect of it. I think the portal is a gimmick and would make players rely on me to move them instead of self awareness, when supports are already doing so much.
Much appreciated! Portal right now is unfortunately really not that useful as a repositioning skill, so I'm thinking it may see some more reworking in the future. It has a delay on cast which prevents it from using it in emergencies, and the reliance on the player actually hitting G is another limiting factor. A bit of a wait and see situation!
As someone that has never played Lost Ark and wants to play Support, this was a great video! Really well presented and easy to understand the differences, thank you!
As some one who play both classes and who loves both classes, this is an amazing video. I will like to add just one thing from my experience and point of view: Bard is the best class if your party is learning the fight, while Paladin has the upper hand when your party already know the fight.
@@fankey8996 I like paladin better. I find it that paladin is better at buffing damage and with randos that is very important as you might have subpar allies. The 8% heal comes in huge allowing even the most brain dead people to stay in the fight for longer and if you know what you are doing you can shield a lot of damage with it too. Your holy aura is a mix of heal(with engraving), damage reduction, damage buff so unless you have a bard that is very good at getting gauge i consider the paladin to have the superior gauge skill. It wasn't mentioned in this video but a paladin provides a ton of stagger (stunning bosses) and in tier 3 you become one of the best stagger characters with some descent counter potential.
This was incredibly good. Hard to find info on a class other than a "guide" which just tells you which gem to use and which skill without mentioning the whys.
After hearing your analysis of each class, I think that for more of a casual player of this game, such as myself, Paladin is most likely a better choice, since the class can take more punishment and keep itself alive more easily. After all, being better at healing others won't do anybody much good if you're dead.
The graphics in this presentation are phenomenal. There was a ton of information and you made it very easy to understand. Liked and subscribed and I look forward to future content.
Wow! Truly awesome guide. Highly useful analysis, great focus and presentation of key info, outstanding visuals, concise commentary. Amazing job! One of the best reviews I’ve seen. Well done!!
Thanks for this amazing video, showing the similarities AND difference really helps understanding what kind of support they are at their core, i figured they were both the same, but i could really get why one is better then the other in certain situations, and now i do! Thank you
Subbed because your content is displayed so well. Gonna go with paladin but bard sounds really fun too so might go with that for my second character. I hope you upload more so you can help us new players become quality support players in the community!
this was the best bard vs pally video i've seen and overall awesome presentation and in-depth details that you don't really find with others. fantastic job!!!
After watching many videos, and considering that I'm completely new to the game I've decided to start with a paladin due to the higher defense stat, it looks a bit less punishing and slightly easier to run the solo content. My first alt will be a bard then as many content creators recommend having many alts and enjoying different classes.
Bard can still be pretty tanky with the heavy armor engraving, though still not on par with a Paladin of course. Don't forget to try to learn from your mistakes rather than relying on high survivability to tank hits. If you're playing solo group content then Paladin would 100% feel more reliable for sure, their healing specifically.
@@starbreeze7249 thanks for the advice, my plan is to play the tankier Paladin to learn the boss fights. Once I'll feel more comfortable and know more about the game mechanics I'll feel more confident to run the content with a bard.
Damn man ty for this video…..im completely new to this game and could not find any in depth paladin guides on how to play as a support but you definitely nailed both classes in one go!
Great video! Loved how detailed it all is even to the point of mentioning how different builds and changes can affect them or make them more similar. What's a shame though is I feel I'd enjoy bards kit more but would personally find paladins gameplay more enjoyable. Especially as someone that can be a bit slow at learning and with everyone new to the fights, so the stronger healing and more frequent shielding would be great. Helped me in deciding paladin at least!
I started out playing bard, then switched to paladin around level 20 when an old gaming friend wanted to join our guild and would only play bard. The rest of our small guild preferred having one of each support instead of two of the same, which is why I swapped. This friend always plays healers, unfortunately she's also pretty awful at it, going way back to vanilla WoW when we were both healers in raids. I'm now leveling a bard in addition to my paladin because I'd like to understand it better. Judging the class purely because my friend's bard is ... well let's just say she doesn't make the class look very good, wouldn't be fair to the class. And who knows? Maybe I can give her tips the next time we play together if I have more experience with bards. As things currently stand, I just assume there won't be any support if I play a DPS alt with her, and that her group will struggle more in 8 mans. My guild thinks bards are trash because of that. It's kind of sad.
This is the best video I have seen thus far talking about the differences between the two support classes we will be getting with the NA/EU launch. Good video all around dude, keep it up!
I'm still pretty new to Lost Ark, just now hitting 1070 on a paladin. Between you and ATK I'm learning so much, and I appreciate your effort in explaining. I think I'm going to build a Bard as a second toon just to see how they feel.
This video is edited SOOO well! Great content man and really informative. Excited to be playing a paladin for once (I pretty much always play ranged heals so lets switch things up).

okay so this is my first time watching your videos and the end --- this has been aiyu and until next time, byeu is so damn cute lmao thanks for the info! cant wait for NA launch
Great video, I already decided to be a full support player for my guild and this helped me understand what class to use for what situations as they come up. Paladin main, will have 2 pal, 2 bard, and 2 artists when ever that comes out, should be lit 👌🏻
@@oldmatedave2382 I know that, but with 2 I can run more chaos dungeons as well as guardian raids and abyssal raids:) and I have been enjoying playing support so might as well get more time out if enjoying it 👌🏻
Love this video a lot. As someone who knows literally nothing going into this game, this video has really helped me get a better informed decision on which to play - which is both! xD
Thanks for helping me to decide and dedicate my life to the bard sacred rol 😂😂 Very nice guide, from the editing and the content, everything was spot on.

+ Waifu is what got me more sold on the Bard I would have compared Wind of Music with Holy Land and Guardian Tune with Holy Protection. This matches cooldown and range a lot better.

Nice video! I really like comparisons. However I always thought that Holy Protecion is smore like Guardian Tune. They both give shields in more common versin (Endless Protection+Agile Defence for Guardian Tune) which can be swapped for utility (Cleanse for Holy Protection and Debuff Block for Guardian Tune)
What a great video 👌 I would have added that Paladin has access to 2 movement skills while Bard has none (charge and forgot the other one)... Thus for new players I'd recommend going pala first then make a bard alt once u have experienced the game more. Im a 1395 pala main with a 1343 bard and I really love both. Can't wait for Artist to come in
Paladin's founder skin looks like Tyrael from D3. That's all I needed to know I was gonna be maining a paladin. The fact that I enjoy playing melee support is just a massive bonus.
As a support or healer main in many mmos (dcuo,ff14,neverwinter,ect.) You are spot on. Sometimes you have to move into melee range to catch a person that is in a bad spot and you might get hit while casting your healing and just live through it. On another note DON'T build for damage if you plan on healing for parties unless you over scale the content I've seen many supports building crit and the team struggle to pull out the raid don't be that guy.
Godsent law does in fact have the same paralysis immunity super armour that Rhapsody of Light has and also has the ability to inflict Lights’s vestige debuff giving 10% damage increase for all party members
It's not the same super armor as Rhapsody, Rhapsody is knockdown/knockup immunity (LV 2 Super Armor) while Godsent Law is hitstun immunity (LV 1). I did make a mistake about the shielding differences which I corrected in the description. You also don't get the vestige debuff if you use the 30% AoE tripod, which most people do.
@@Aiyulol godsent law gives a shield though, while you said it doesn't? Or do people really not use that tripod? I find it to be amazing, those shields are quick to apply and together with the DMG reduction can (in low tier content so far) super easily safe someone or let you just Facetank a boss ability.

Im a 1395 pala main with a 1343 bard and I really love both. Can't wait for Artist to come in
Good call!
Paladin's founder skin looks like Tyrael from D3. That's all I needed to know I was gonna be maining a paladin. The fact that I enjoy playing melee support is just a massive bonus.
Skins are the true Lost Ark endgame!
Got a like from me. You went straight to the point.
Thank you!
This is a very informative video, thank you.
Glad it was helpful! :D
As a support or healer main in many mmos (dcuo,ff14,neverwinter,ect.) You are spot on. Sometimes you have to move into melee range to catch a person that is in a bad spot and you might get hit while casting your healing and just live through it. On another note DON'T build for damage if you plan on healing for parties unless you over scale the content I've seen many supports building crit and the team struggle to pull out the raid don't be that guy.
impressed by the quality of the video
Thanks for watching!
Wow What a detailed analysis !
Glad you liked it!
@@Aiyulol agreed there, most use the 6s cooldown ability to apply the 10% damage debuff to the boss.
I’ve been looking for this thank you. Even playing a bard but thought a pally would be better. I prefer the bard
