    6. Kitetube
Doesn’t it sound like a great idea to get put on a kite and have a high power boat drag you through the sky? Not really! The kite tube was made by Sportsstuff inc and it was basically a 10 foot wide circular inflatable watercraft that becomes airborne. People would try their best to stay on the kite tube 39 people were injured while operating this device, 29 of which needed hospitalization. Some of the injuries were quite severe, including: a broken neck, a punctured lung as well as facial injuries. Two of these people actually lost their lives. The suggestion statement on the product was featured next to crossbones and states:” never fly the kite higher than you are willing to fall.” Makes sense right? About 19,000 of these were recalled in 2006.
    5. Samsung Galaxy Recalls
Samsung recalled the Note 7 smartphones recently in 2016 after some of the batteries exploded or caught on fire! Samsung Note 7’s were being recalled from shelves in 10 countries including South Korea and the United States. People who bought the Note 7 could switch it out for something new but people were disappointed with the product failure. There were 35 confirmed instances of this new smartphone catching on fire and even exploding! It was estimated that 1 in every 14000 had faulty batteries but most likely, no one is going to want to take that risk unless it’s the new iphone. Most customer stated that the phone exploded while being charged. This goes to show, just the smallest errors in things like this can lead to dangerous products. This is mostly due to high powered lithium batteries, storing too much energy. Guys might want to consider not placing this phones in their pockets if they're planning on having kids someday.
    4. Tommee Tippee Sippee Cups
3.1 Millions of these children's cups were recalled for a rather strange reason. The spill proof cups were becoming infested with mold spores in the removable, one-piece, white valve. Even when cleaned, moisture would remain in this area and some parents just wouldn’t clean this part. There were over 3,000 consumer reports of mold in the valves and 68 concerned parents reported illnesses from their children. The angry parents, posted photos on the Tommee Tippee Sippee Cups facebook page to show their disgust with the product. Consumers are advised to stop using cups with piece white valves. The company agreed to replace the cups, in an attempt to keep some of their customers.
    3. Baby Milk Powder
This doesn’t sound too appetizing. A huge scandal took place in China when an infant formula were containing a substance known as melamine was uncovered. This lead to an estimated 300,000 victims in total. Some children reportedly suffered from kidney stones and serious kidney damage with nearly 54,000 children being hospitalized. This lead to serious health concerns in china and a fear of exported goods from this country. Many countries refused to import goods from here, especially dairy products. The Chinese government prosecuted many people who were to blame executing two, placing 3 in prison for life and other serious punishments were administered. The substances placed in the milk were not well tested and over 2100 tons of powdered milk was destroyed and 9000 recalled.
    2. Firestone and Goodyear Recall
Possible one of the worst defaults by a tire company, firestone and Goodyear tires were exploding and shredding like no one had seen before. When ford motors found several models of 15-inch Firestone had severely high failure rate, this lead to the rightful closing of manufacturing plants. But the tires were still out there! Firestone ultimately demanded for a recall of over 2.8 million tires! This eventually led to 175 deaths and 700 injuries for firestone while much fewer were affected by goodyear tires.
    1. Chinese Product Recall
In 2007, China demanded a huge product recall and import bans were placed by the US, Canada, EU Australia and New Zealand when they began realizing certain products weren’t safe. Products shipped from China like pet food noticed that animals were falling ill and dying. It turns out it has the same chemical, melamine, that was placed in the baby milk powder. But this was just the tip of the iceberg. Marvel toys, recalled 175,000 dolls that apparently contained excessive amounts of lead paint. Lead is known to damage brain cells especially in children. In 2007, over 467 product recalls. An estimated 32 percent of all toys China exported contained lead. Toys like hotwheels even contained a deadly poison known as arsenic! The most likely reasoning for this is that heavy metals are much cheaper and using any other substance would likely push their costs up.

I think the key is the worms were alive. So the company was stating they wouldnt have been from their factory because in packaging they would have seen them immediatly just by looking. Cus fairly certain that shit is hand checked periodically.
And in cooking they be dead. Dead worm are still gross but obviously means the worms showed up after the chocolate itself was made. If it was the original factory it would also mean a recall and a huge loss/cleaning session. But they would have taken the loss in that case obviously.

With the no spill baby cups, it wasn't so much that people weren't cleaning the valves, it was that you'd have to physically break the valves to get them open, so you could clean it only if you broke it.

I personally had one as a kid and used it frequently unsupervised in my spare time. This was when i was around 6. Now before you throw a fit, my parents had actually gotten the oven for sister whom was 9 but she never used it. I knew how to read therefore I knew not to stick my hand in the oven when "CAUTION VERY HOT" was written all over it.

I had one as a kid as well, it was the big thing growing up in the early 90s and parents knew it was dangerous but had probably already spoken to us about it and taught us better at a much younger age - you know, that sticking your hand on a hot surface would burn. This included an oven. 😒

I hade a easy bake oven when I was 6 and you know what ! MY MUM HELPED ME . What kind of parents leave a kid with a oven leaving them available to stick their hand in it . Plus a kid must be really young to stick their hand in a oven , my mother supervised me but I followed the instructions and LOVED the oven . Now I am 10 use a real oven (obviously) love baking and cooking and really believe it fueled my love for these hobbies and my parents are happy they bought me it plus I wasn’t dumb enough to stick my hand in it. Not saying I still don’t make mistakes like when I was eight and was peeling a apple and peeled a bit of my finger off . As well as recently I was cutting mushrooms and cut my self with the knife ( only a small cut though 😋)

Trouble with the Easy Bake oven is, that cooking toy for girls was quite popular for many years in the 1970s, and had clear warning that t was an electric toy with possible dangers. Any parent who bought it should have been fully aware that the child should use it with supervision. But when you get "too many complaints" regardless of your safety effort, that is when the product must be removed from public availability.

    • @blueeyedbaby210
      @blueeyedbaby210 7 лет назад +73

Fiery_Eagle that was the issue. It wasnt removable. It was one solid piece of plastic that was solid white. So you could try to wash the surface but that does no good if the liquid stays trapped inside. To see the mold you had to cut open and destroy the valve. There was a seal on both sides that kept liquid trapped in there. Thats not being lazy, thats a design problem. The corrected valve is clear and snaps in half to properly clean.

I had an easy bake oven when I was 5, way way back in the early 2000's. Even I knew not to stick my fingers in it, because that's what the plastic stick thing was for. If 5-year-old me had enough common sense to not stick my fingers in a mini-oven, (with or without adult supervision - and yes, my mom supervised. She's not an idiot like a lot of parents are these days.) then it says a lot about how close to extinction common sense is among us these days.

the Easy-Bake oven says it's for kids 8 and up and I knew how to cook on a regular stove and oven by the time I was 8 years old. It also says pretty clearly not to put your hand into the machine to try and unjam things. People just can't follow simple instructions and don't want to watch their kids. I think the Easy-Bake Oven is a stupid idea just because I remember it being extremely overpriced, but it shouldn't be a hazard unless you aren't watching your kids or teaching them how to be safe.

Some of these recalls, see more to neglect of parenting then actual product problems. If you don't tell your kid don't swing that around it may wrap around your neck, don't stick your hand in an oven. This is ridiculous. I had one of the old fashioned Easy Bake Ovens, I have that little hot plate that made all the monster goo candy, and my parents sat down with me explain to me about how to use it and I never got burnt. This is a lack of parenting not a bad product. Parents just don't want to get called-out I'm there lack of parenting skills.

The crazy thing is, these are the BIG cases. People don't realize recalls happen literally every week. I'm a manager at a grocery chain and at least once or twice a week we get an email from the distributors telling us to pull something off the shelf. A couple weeks ago we had to pull tuna off the shelf that had metal shavings in it and this week we had to pull some eggs that the manufacturer thought could contain salmonella. Glass particles and metal shavings are such a common reason that it's disgusting. Most recalls in food products happen because of undisclosed allergens. (Like this last week we pulled some cookie dough that didn't display that it was made in a factory near nut products or baking products that didn't disclose that it contained eggs) The FDA doesn't play with these companies because people could die due to undisclosed allergens.

It's not about cheap labor, there is absolutely nothing wrong with cheap labor. You get to eat rice because some middle aged woman in thailand is working her butt off to pick it, one grain at a time. There will always be someone able to do your "deluxe" job for less money, less privileges, less free time, worse conditions etc.
The only thing you can do to make sure it's fair is to cut out the middle man: don't buy premium branded stuff! This video shows that you would not be spared from blunder by buying Disney/Pixar, Nestlé, and similar top tier brands.

Of course. But you do it at your own risk, you know that it could make you sick. And hey, no one loves a chocolate chip cookie dough blizzard more than me. Although I don't think that dough is actually "raw."
The point is that Nestlé shouldn't have to recall a product because people aren't using it properly and ignoring the warnings on the package. That's not fair.

That's a bit too general. Raw fruits and vegetables are delicious and good for you. Plus sushi (if it's been frozen to kill parasites) can be eaten raw. Steak is pretty OK to eat almost raw, and steak cooked all the way through is nasty.

The valves were impossible to clean properly. You literally had to saw them open (which of course destroyed it in the process) to get into the inside of it. To make it worse it was opaque so you couldn't even see inside of it. Moisture got trapped inside no matter how well you soaked, scrubbed, or tried to brush them out.
