He pretty much ended your extremely average professional career, and the opportunities that awaited you afterwards were something only a hardworking, extremely successful person deserves. I said successful person, not successful pro hockey player. And...I hope I didn't upset you in any way, you seem like an ok dude. Take care Rick

    In order for the Islanders to sign that contract with DiPietro, they fired their current GM at the time (who REFUSED to sign DiPietro to that contract). Then replaced him with back-up goalie Garth Snow.
    New Jersey trying to sign Kovalchuk to a 17 year contract was ridiculous, and they still signed him to a 15 year contract. Nowadays, players can be signed for up to 8 years per contract, which means players can be signed for a minimum of 2 contracts following their ELC.

    Hey Tillo..... you are missing one of the biggest contracts in NHL History. The Zach Parise/Ryan Suter Minnesota Wild contract SNAFU. Any Wild fan will tell you, these two signs were the worst for a hockey team's future. The Wild traded these two veteran's off, but will affect the MN salary cap until 2025. Back in 2012 they signed identical contracts for 13 years. Both were bought out, but the contracts are still there costing the Wild's salary cap a cool 4.5 a piece until 2025.

      the team that looked great on paper, but had a huge problem, the locker room was trash and they had an ego that was bigger than their game. They acted like they owned the team. Suter even hung up on Billy G when he told him that his contract was going to be bought out. What a scum bag.

    @jonmendelson1104 Год назад

    You missed one not on the Kovalchuk contract. In addition to the league rejecting the 17 year deal they penalized them by forcing them to pay $3 million as well as giving up a 3rd round draft pick in 2011 and a 1st round draft pick within the next 4 seasons. They were intending to give up their 2014 1st (the final year they could give it up) but likely due to his retirement the league decided to give the team back the first rounder and half of the $3 million, though they gave them the final pick of the 1st round (30th overall) instead of where they would've drafted based on the standings (11th overall). While the picks may not have been the same, the guy they picked at 30th overall (John Quenneville) played a total of 42 NHL games where he scored 5 points (2G,3A) and hasn't played an NHL game since the 2019-20 season (could possibly see a call up, played 25 games in the AHL last year) as opposed to the guy who was picked in the 11th slot (Kevin Fiala) who has been a full time NHLer since 3 years after his draft, was in the all star game this year, and has 355 points (147G, 208A) in 488 NHL games so far.

    You missed the single absolute worst contract in recent memory...8 years 84 million for Carey Price! 😨 He played barely 200 games under that contract...so basically half a mill per game...and then bailed on the team and his teammates after the run to the finals in 2021 with 4 years left on the contract. Brutal. He should have been suspended for breach of contract and not paid. Another brutal contract is Tavares. If it weren't for that deal the Leafs would have probably won a Cup by now.

    • @curryboi
      @curryboi Год назад +5

      Bailed? You mean carried his team for years including to the finals in 2021 until his knees could literally no longer function. Some of you people are unbelievable lol

    • @tonylloy327
      @tonylloy327 Год назад

      @@curryboiPrice "carried the team" for 3 years, between 2014 and 2017. After that, he was a mediocre NHL goalie at best. The stats don't lie. But Habs haters always want to discount the team, and insist that any success they had was all because of Price. In reality, he let them down in the clutch time after time after time.

    • @curryboi
      @curryboi Год назад +3

      @@tonylloy327 so that 2021 team is making it to the finals without him? Anyone that knows their hockey ALWAYS says that yes price was never the same after the kreider injury, but in the playoffs he always stepped up and was an elite goaltender. No wonder people hate habs fans lol the guy gave his all to this franchise, ruined his body and still gets shit on

    • @tonylloy327
      @tonylloy327 Год назад +1

      @@curryboi Sure, okay, whatever. I *know* it's not permitted to disparage the annointed God Carey. But my issue is that I just don't buy either the "always stepped up and was an elite goaltender", nor the "gave his all for this franchise".
      First off, the Habs never even make the playoffs in 2021 if not for Jake Allen *actually* "stepping up" and being far better than a bored, shaky, uninterested Price in every statistical category. And once in the playoffs (no thanks to Price), it was Weber and Petry and Chiarot and Edmundson who "gave their all" - to basically form a wall in front of the Habs net and protect a fragile Price from anyone getting anywhere near him. In my 50 years of watching, playing, and coaching hockey I've never seen a D corps sacrifice their own bodies to protect a goalie as much as those guys did for Price.
      And second, although Price was mostly good when he had to be, he was *NO BETTER* than any of the other teams' goalies throughout that run. The stats don't lie...he was outplayed by Campbell against the Leafs, Fleury against Vegas, and was completely schooled and owned by Vasilevskiy against Tampa. None of whom were making Price's insane salary.
      Third, the franchise and the fans gave *everything* of themselves to Price, not the other way around. He was treated like Christ. Car-EY, Car-EY!! Meanwhile, after the playoff run he went home to BC and didn't bother working with team medical staff & trainers to rehabilitate his knee over the summer. Remember, he's being paid 10.5 mill here, guaranteed to him each year for another 4 years. He *owed* the franchise and the fans to take his injury rehab seriously. Instead, a couple of days before the start of the season, he realizes he's not ready and suddenly announces to his devastated teammates who went to war for him - to the extent that a guy like Weber basically didn't have a single part of his entire body that wasn't injured - that he won't be playing this year. (I know, that's not exactly what he announced, but his teammates knew exactly what he was saying). And then the injuries and Covid hit a completely disheartened team...and BOOM...the guys he abandoned to try to play get completely humiliated and the whole team gets torn down. While he stays out and continues to collect his 10.5 mill.
      Hey, until that I loved Carey as much as any Habs fan, curryboi. But as soon as he got rewarded with that contract, he was "mailing it in' 48 weeks per year. If you can't see that, you weren't paying attention.
