Absolutely THE BEST Falstaff I have ever watched! Fabulous cast, gorgeous costumes & beautiful singing & hilariously acted. If you know the story, you don't even need subtitles to enjoy this wonderful performance. This is exactly what Verdi & Boito intended. Bravo!

Yes, I really enjoy Maestri's timbre!
This production is a recreation of a 1913 Bussetto production. The opera was only 20 years old at the time and it provides a window into the past. The staging is remarkably simple but equally effective. It proves how great theater doesn't necessarily depend on modern technology or idiotic updatings to be valid, relevant and timely.

I digitally remastered this opera in the 90's when the old master tapes were looking a bit ropes. Thankyou for posting it on U Tube so perfectly.

Mi Falstaff favorito siempre ha sido y será, hasta que no se demuestre lo contrario, Taddei. Con quien además compartir varios encuentros, aprovechando que estaba allí mientras mi padre cantaba el Ford...Maestri me parece muy bueno. También es muy grande en este papel tan soberbio y complicado el Sr. Bruson.

Ultima opera di Giuseppe Verdi: per l'ultima volta il Grande Uomo di teatro ha creato un capolavoro , con la collaborazione di Arrigo Boito . L'opera deriva ovviamente da Shakespeare , ma Verdi aveva due possibilità : l'Enrico IV e Le Allegre Comari di Windsor . Troppo complessa la prima opera , per essere ridotta in libretto; addirittura migliorata da Boito quella di Shakespeare. Nasce così un grande capolavoro comico che, si diceva, non fosse nelle corde di Verdi.
Questa messa in scena è veramente straordinaria: il Maestro Muti , dirige con la consueta maestria e soprattutto con una conoscenza profonda dell'opera di Verdi. Mirabile l'interpretazione di Ambrogio Maestri che domina ( come Verdi voleva) su tutti i personaggi in scena. Puro divertimento , come avviene in "Italiana in Algeri" di Rossini, il quale non riteneva Verdi capace di un'opera buffa: accontentato. !

Questo non è un Falstaff, ma il Falstaff.
In realtà è questa la sonorità adeguata, perché il Falstaff, a differenza delle altre, è un'opera da camera, quindi un suono più contenuto è quantomai preferibile ad altre sonorità.
Luca Faldini, il Falstaff e' stato concepito per il Teatro alla Scala non per un teatro minuscolo. Le sonorita' dell'orchestra, gli insiemi, le parti corali, hanno connotazioni, non me ne voglia l'Autore, sonorita' wagneriane.
@@giudiciadanna4550 No, Falstaff è stato rappresentato la prima volta alla Scala, ma non è stato pensato per la scala: Verdi stesso diceva che questa era la prima opera che scriveva senza pensare a cantanti o ai teatri, e che avrebbe preferito vederla in scena nella sua piccola Busseto piuttosto che alla Scala!

Not Chamber opera. Just paired down the string section. La Scala orchestra make up for it beautifully. This is the best Falstaff on film. All the singers are just young enough to sing all the roles beautifully, before they become worn out from international careers. And what a cast!!!
