Reticular Activating System

  • The reticular activating system is your brains guidance system.
    Understanding this will give you a new insight into how you experience life. I know that sounds like a big claim, but the science really backs it up. better than science though is how simple it is to use and see for yourself.
    Your RAS is on your side always looking to prove you right. It's the goal seeking part of you that once you master you will literally start to notice more of the things you want and less of the things you don't want..... or should I said. You'll notice only what you put your focus or attention on.
    In its most simple form, what you put your attention on becomes real to you. If you focus on pain, worry and anxiety, your reticular activating system will seek to find things in line with this.
    Therefore, when you focus on the things you want, thats what you notice.
    Here's the kicker, our language does not support our human brains. We understand what don't think of a purple elephant means, or don't pay attention to your left foot now. But thats exactly what we notice.
    You RAS is your guidance system, it's just wired in a different language. get this right and it'll all fall into place.
    The reticular activating system isn't NLP per se. But anyone interested in NLP should understand this.

    1. Transfer inhibitory impulses to the whole brain

    What a fantastic video explaining the reticular activating system! Does your RAS do a better or faster job of delivering answers to you if you ask the question several times over 24, 48 or 72 hours or is it better to just ask it once, let it go, and then wait for an answer?

    • @mikesweet5261
      @mikesweet5261  5 лет назад +4

      An interesting question.
      Remember, sometimes you'll get an answer but it may feel directly related to the question you asked. So, coming back to the same question can offer you more chances of consciously "hearing, seeing, noticing" the answer.
      Keep in mind, our language is a tool that gives us a chance to Express and understand. It's subjective. Therefore simply asking the same question to yourself with a different tone, of sense of curiosity could give you a more rounded reply..... so to speak.
      I hope this is helpful?
      e.g. after reading that you could ask yourself. "What other leanings are within that comment from Mike?" Or "how else can I apply tonality to my question asking?"
      Curiosity is the foundation, bricks, mortar, roof and everything in between.

      Update: After watching this video two weeks ago and telling myself that I also wanted to find money, yesterday while riding my bike I noticed a $20 bill folded over twice in the middle of popular walking/bike path. I presume that lots of people had walked or ridden their bikes right past it (my boyfriend had) but my RAS noticed it and I was the lucky recipient. I'm excited to be even more deliberate in what I focus on now!

    If we get what we expect then how come some people have positive or high expectations but don’t achieve them and feel dissatisfied in the end??

    • @mikesweet5261
      @mikesweet5261  3 года назад +1

      What we say we want or expect often different from our actions or beliefs. Ironically, we get what we feel.
      Therefore, if a person optimistically wants, they often create a feeling of lack.... Hence the outcome is maintaining the feeling of lack by wanting change, yet not changing.
      A key phrase you'll hear in NLP is congruence.

    Mike,
    Great video on the Reticular Activation system! Say in that video you talk about when we forget something and we need to recall it we can't. Like Tom Cruise etc... Is there a way to speed up that system. I know lol that I could just use my own RAS but that could take time. I was curious if you had any info I could read or watch on just increasing the speed of that system. I will also ask my RAS to find out that info as fast as possible which I realize may be the answer to my question but thought you would have a more through view or source on it.

    • @mikesweet5261

      Hi Dylan,
      I'm pleased you found the video helpful.
      NLP answer, as you said ask "what new ways will I find to speed up my memory recall?"
      Plus, there a number of ways to boost cognitive "clock-speed." Hydration, correct sleep, actively working out memory, diet etc.

    Hi Mike, I have (a strange maybe) question about RAS. Can RAS be mistakenly *taken* by intuition (feeling/insight)?

    • @mikesweet5261
      @mikesweet5261  4 года назад +2

      Hi Magda, I don't fully understand the question! However, if you're asking can your RAS be controlled by intuition/insight? Then, what comes before those? Usually a question, either conscious or unconscious. If you don't like the answer you can then begin to ask some better questions to steer your RAS more inline with your expectations. Hope this helps.

    • @smilelikeUmeanit90
      @smilelikeUmeanit90 4 года назад +1

      Hi Mike! Thank you for answering so promptly. What I mean is, if RAS (as a system, of "reacting"?) CAN be confused (taken WRONGLY, no deeper meaning here) for things like intuition/feeling? I know the question is bit difficult :D This is purely for sake of my own "research", of my experience, the healing process, the subconscious, thoughts, and how manifestation things (e.g health) in our life works. Im trying to find out cause of my issue.
      The question in another words can be put: I took something as a voice of intuition, let say (say anything, just to give an example), a "fact", I recently came a cross the RAS, it kind of occurred to me that IT COULD BE this assumption, based on this ras system (and what it is doing) *So like the "assumption"/conclusion if you like, was wrong/false.* I hope it make sense, what I mean is quite simply, but difficult to put in words (eng is not my first lng btw).

    • @mikesweet5261
      @mikesweet5261  4 года назад +3

      @@smilelikeUmeanit90 OK, this question has so many layers.
      Let's take your question. "Trying to find the cause of my issue?"
      This is so common to hear people say however, from an NLP standpoint the cause and the outcomes are flexible, opposing and varied for everyone. Therefore, it's not the "Cause" or trigger isn't the place to look. Rather the meaning you assigned to that cause at that time.
      Therefore you have another chance to revisit that story you're telling yourself about the time when the issue came to light and reframe it.
      So, knowing what you know now and the time that has passed since you assigned a meaning. What lesson can you take from that old event that once caused you to feel / act like that?
      I hope this helps Magda?
      Kind regards
      Mike

      It does help, thank you Mike. Another insight, into what Im looking for, for sure helps, I look in your answer and will draw another bit for me :). Actually (as I research more into the RAS, more vids appear) ...The word I was looking for was a Belief :)) So the question can be: *Can RAS (and its function) form a Belief* . Like program or produce even.
      Adequately can also be asking, WHAT role play RAS in forming (producing, programming) a BELIEF? :) But I guess this is whole another part, and requires full proper knowledge and understanding about this system really, which I don't have yet.

    • @mikesweet5261
      @mikesweet5261  4 года назад +2

      We're now heading to Nominalisations. Create a "belief" vs something that you used to or currently "believe?"
