he's not throwing up, he's just always drunk.
And burping drool on himself
Yeah it showed it in the pilot I think
If you ever seen someone drunk, you might realize that they're not constantly burping or have fluid constantly down their mouth. It's possible for him to have multiple diseases along with being drunk
@@ryutsureit7651 Many alcoholics often look like that, sadly. It can affect their mouth and throat so much that they have to find alternative routes to consume the alcohol.

Mike: I see a lab coat is he a doctor
Me: NO NO NO NO
Hehe😅
Well he is a doctor, I mean technically. I mean he can repair and cure a lot of things.
@@minuette1752 he's a scientist who knows medical knowledge so I guess you're right it's a two way street with Rick
@@Godsgreatestwork "Smartest being in the universe, people..."
He probably has a doctorate somewhere 😂
The thing that bothered me most about this episode, was that as soon as Santa’s body is enlarged to an entire continent, the blood cells would be larger than regular bodies(ish). And yet, the blood that explodes over the USA is regular liquid.
Maybe the weapon multiplies cells rather than enlarging existing ones,
Burnt up on re-entry perhaps?
Any of the disease "monsters" could have attacked everyone in North America. That could have made a fun follow up episode.
@@3DJapansome diseases don’t last long outside the body

I love this so much, my favourite part is Mike trying to figure out what's wrong with Rick after I've assumed it's just alcoholism...he might be right tbh, would be an interesting twist if Rick had a really bad disease.
well he's not right in that we know he's not vomiting, just burping a lot. i thought it was established that rick's an alcoholic though? not that that doesn't come with its own risks of a plethora of diseases, i think that was just the canon explanation for all the burping.
@@dietotaku I think he said vomiting because of the trail of drool mixed with vomit always coming from Rick's mouth.
Right? One can imagine how much radiation all this high tech equipment is emanating. Could cause cancer for sure!
@dietotaku it has been established that he is alcojolic, but that doesn't exclude the possibility of him having something else along with it.
What does make it less likemy is that with his science he can get rid of most physical diseases that affect humans.
he doesnt. it really is just alcoholism caused by depression after losing his wife and daughter
Lol i think Hep C taking out Hep A was just a nod to Jurassic Park
Nope, I think Hep C are just good guys. 😂😂😂😂
Definitely a nod to Jurassic Park, the T-Rex charging in to take out the Raptors at the end, it's practically tradition now to have the T-Rex save the day
@@FaygoF9 Na uh, they are just good guys... trust me. 🤣
@@FaygoF9 I think it's more a reference to how a Spinosaurus "saves" the group from T-Rex in JP3.

Not all doctors wear lab coats and not everyone that wears a lab coat is a doctor.

6:25 Come on Mike, I thought you were smart. He needs glasses because he has bad eyesight.
He needs glasses because it's John Oliver voicing him.
He needs glasses cox the two of you won’t shut up
10:12 One of the things every 90’s and early 2000’s kid remembers reading in a kids magazine is that:
If an atom were the size of a pea, a molecule would be the size of a marble, a white blood cell would be the size of a cruise ship, and a human would be the size of North America. Rick enlarged Ruben to get Morty and Annie back to normal size quickly.
I never thought I'd see Dr. Mike react to Rick and Morty, but I'm here for it.
I love how he judges cartoons with his medical knowledge
Congratulations, you found the point
yooo what??? you watched the video, too? that's wild
Same
Basically Rick is an irreverent, alcoholic version of Doc Brown from Back to the Future.
If you haven't watched more of the series, it gets twisted. You might enjoy the episode where they turn the world into 'Kronenbergs' cause Morty wants effectively a love potion to get with his current crush, and it ends up making the entire planet fall into zombie love with him, ended in global mutations requiring them to transplant themselves into an alternate reality in which both a Rick and Morty have recently died.
It's a great/terrible show. I love it. It's like the evolution of The Simpsons and Family Guy.
He keeps belching. The joke is that Rick is perpetually drunk. Just absolutely completely wasted and constantly vomits from the alcohol. You really should watch the show from start to finish. It's a really good show and then you can also go ahead and watch BoJack horseman. That's another really good show. Not medical just on your time off.
he works as a hospital then on youtube, pretty optimistic to assume he has "time off"
@@Speedy_Unofficial he clearly has time off, otherwise he would have been burned out by now.

1:22 no he is just very drunk
Thank you!
Rick enlarged the Santa guy to make Morty and the girl normal size just to make it easier to extract them
Rather than correcting the medical accuracy, Mike enjoys these shows, like a child😂. I love it❤
I love how mike was reaching for all those medschool diagnosis😂😂
"Does he have H. Pylori?"
No, he' s just drunk.
😂😂
This is the earliest I’ve ever been to a Dr. Mike video
"Riding a white blood cell to the nipple would have been more realistic than taking a train" is.. very medically accurate.
he enlarges him "because everything is relative". By enlarging the "patient" he is also enlarging everything inside of him. This would include the employees of Anatomy Park and Morty
The drool is a thing that the show does when Rick is drunk.
When?
@@sbsftw4232When he’s drunk.
@@bd80247he’s always been drunk
"When Rick is drunk" basically means "all the time"
I love how Doctor Mike is super invested 🤣
Mike: "This is the end of the world"
Us: "Nah, other episode"
Wait end of the universe? No other episode? Does he die? In the alternate reality episode? But like he lives right? No other episode where he genocides himself? But like he's good right? Not even remotely close. But is it medically accurate? He murders Steven Colbert in a car battery Mike!
10:03 I didn't realize this back then when watching the episode, but actually, Mike, this would be desease-free:
In fact, those droplets shouldn't even be red, they should be just droplets of empty plasma. Given the size to which they enlarged Hepatitis-A and Hepatitis-C (aprox train-car size) it is safe to asume that red blood cells and even platelets and viruses should at least be larger than a human or the smallest of viruses about the size of a medium-small dog
Such big organic structures would burst and burn to a crisp on re-entry in the athmosphere, leaving only (maybe, just maybe) droplets of plasma that would evaporate due to the heat, so no cell of any type or virus should survive
it could also be basically a hemoglobin solution, with no whole cell inside, as they would've all burst thus releasing their contents.
Somewhere an Infectious Disease Doctor is screaming into a pillow
"This is the end of the world as we know it!" That phrase had me laughing out loud. 😂😂
1:29 cool theory. However hes just always drunk 24/7. Sometiems lwss drunk sometimes more drunk but always drunk.
"Why is he vomiting, belching, and drooling; I'm concerned there may be something wrong!" Oh you innocent thing. He's a barely-functioning alcoholic, and that's just explaining what's outwardly physical without delving into the personality disorders and inhuman levels of trauma that the alcoholism is a coping mechanism for
IVE BEEN WAITING SO LONG FOR YOU TO COVER THIS!!!!
The amoeba needs glasses because he's the Jurassic Park guy from the original movies lol you nailed it right away when you seen it, when you said "is this supposed to be like Jurassic Park" yep it is 😅
10:14 but all the diseases are huge now so it doesn’t.
9:47 I like how Doctor Mike guesses that it's Hepatitis C and then it looks like Hepatitis C gives him a thumb up for being correct.
I've been waiting for this for so long! THANKS DR. MIKE! Also, keep up the good work. I know Im not qualified to say this but being a family care Doctor is really hard and the fact that Doctor Mike can do that and sustain a wonderful RUclips Channel is truly amazing.
"Are you kidding? I'm open, I can get to both of them, Rick!"
I WHEEZE-LAUGHED, THAT WAS ACTUALLY HYSTERICAL-
I'm hoping I can get to both of em 8:18
1:16
To answer all those questions, Rick tends to get drunk.
His grey skin isn't from alchoholism, because in "rickternal friendshine of the spotless mort" we see rick has a kid when he was about 12 and he still had his grey skin, he is under aged to drink, and even if he did, he wouldn't have become a great scientist.
@@robertslayerofmonsters1302but in rest and ricklaxation after he gets detoxed he turns white and after his toxic self returns to his body it’s grey?
@@afnaan. Actually good point, but it doesn't get that much lighter its still like light gray, I think it's a skin disorder that Rick had. Usually a person's skin is tan, Rick's is grey/white
Seasons 1 & 2 of Rick and Morty were amazing.
😂😂😂we need lord of the rings and the hobbit next!
10:03 He couldn't enlarge Morty since he was lost inside the body. So he enlarged the whole body and everything in it to make the extraction easier.
You could say it would have been smarter to shrink himself with the ship, but then we wouldn't have the giant homeless corpse blowing up over the US, so we don't question it XD
And no, that blood rain doesn't have all those diseases because they got enlarged as well. You might say that the blood wouldn't look like that either, but otherwise we wouldn't have the blood rain over the US, so we don't question it XD
Exactly, well said lol
@@Zal1810 Thanks :)
Most people forget that this show is comedy first, family drama second and sci-fi maybe third or fourth XD
@@TheDahaka1 I feel like we could theorize that the enlarging machine doesn’t enlarge molecules, but better yet multiplies them to create a larger structure, that way the blood stays intact
@@creaperreaper6676 red blood cells would still become huge, making the blood just as massive and not liquid at all.
But as I said, it's comedy first, so we don't question it because just enjoying it is more fun XD
@@TheDahaka1 No that’s the thing I’m saying, we can theorize that the enlarger doesn’t naturally enlarge molecules, but instead multiplies them.
If we multiply the red blood cells, we just create more blood in volume, not a larger cell.
its funny how he calls it vomit followed by calling it saliva: his brain corrected itself without him even noticing, and then he goes back to calling it vomit. the brain is amazing
10:25 i kinda think that all that temperature killed it all
Justin Roiland, who voiced Rick, used to drink enough beer before recording, which results in constantly burping
the best doctor is back again!
Trust me, when Rick said "I can't cure death" he definitely knew he could save the guy. He's done it before. This just wasn't as important for him. Also the reason Rick enlarged the body is so that everything else would be enlarged inside of it. That's why he was able to pick them up in his shuttle. The blood droplets are from the blood cells that have also been enlarged, so it's more like blood cell particles that are raining down on the people, which don't contain any pathogens. I guess it's implied that all the pathogens are destroyed inside of the body when it explodes, otherwise they would have more than just a problem of Hepatitis variants running around--they would be the giant aliens we saw inside the body on Earth.
Shoutout John Oliver in this Rick+ Morty ep as Xenon Bloom
Something about Dr. Mike's tone on this one made me imagine him adjusting his glasses during a few medical comments (particularly at 1:19 and 2:12) 😛
I love when he says "Chest Compressions"😂😂😂
You've literally educated us on all there is to know as far as the human body and diseases are concerned. This is gold. Thank you.🎉
Awesome vid as always Dr Mike! I’d also love if you did a video on Hemophilia awareness. There’s a ton of misunderstandings and misinformation (people think it’s a result of inbreeding, people think most hemophiliacs have aids, etc) and having a doctor cover those topics along with general information on new treatments, life expectancy and quality, and basic understanding would be life changing for the community. ❤️
The day before this video came out I decided to rewatch rick and Morty. It's a sign
Btw Doctor Mike Rick is burping Not vomiting 😭
😂right I’m screaming “he’s a functional alcoholic!”
1:16 No, he's just a massive, multi-versal-class alcoholic (while still being the smartest person in all universes). Just one of the reasons Rick is a personal hero of mine.
THANKYOU SO MUCH DR. MIKE FOR MAKING THIS I LOVE RICK AND MORTY
Early on (and this is a fairly early episode) in the run of this show, Rick was belching (and drooling) with alarming frequency. As the show went on, this fairly disgusting aspect of the character was slowly de-emphasized. The belch/drool combo was meant to show that Rick was essentially dependent on alcohol.
I FRIGGIN LOVE RICK AND MORTY, I AM SO HAPPY
Dr Mike always offers the best and comprehensive reviews. He never seems to falter in quality.
And then Doctor mike said, "It's Doctormiking time" and Doctormiked all over the floor.
This is one of many favorite adult show!!
Edit: 1:17 : Well doctor, he drinks heavily and eats pretty much what's on hand.
In order:
- Rick is not a doctor. He's best classified as a mad scientist. Scientists also wear lab coats. Also lab coats are swanky.
- Rick isn't vomiting, he's just an alcoholic who sometimes vomits and doesn't clean up after himself. The "joke" is he's constantly burping from being so drunk. It's also a play on the idea that he's so mega intelligent that even as a stumbling drunk he's 10 times smarter than the smartest people he runs into.
- The EKG could be legit, Rick has super tech and could have easily been monitoring Ruben remotely, just pulling out this monitor for his scheduled checkup.
- The train to Lower Abdomenland could have stops along the way. If he's traveling from the heart, making a stop at the liver checks out.
- Knowing Rick, Ruben may literally have been set up to be a living museum of diseases, so not just microbiota. The presence of multiple other diseases like Hep A/C and Tuberculosis would agree with that.
- Rick is super smart. He can instantly grow a body with a blood sample and link an energy shield to that creature that transmits kinetic energy to it, causing it to store up a charge and eventually explode. He's also turned himself into a pickle, and changed back. Him curing just about any disease with a weird invention that looks like something else is the least weird thing he's done or would do.
- Sure, chest compressions might get him to live longer. Rick is very defeatist and aloof though. He wouldn't care enough about some (probably) homeless guy to try and revive him, especially if it would risk Morty (like a defib might cause a shock that could harm Morty at that size, albeit at a low chance)
- Azithromycin might have worked, but it isn't as flashy or funny as lighting a fart inside of the colon to give the big dumb jock the chance to use a one liner like that. Also I doubt they have a bunch of medicines in large enough doses to manage diseases of that (relative) size.
- Yes, Ruben died. Now he's coming up with a plan to save Morty and destroy the body all in one go. If the entire body is grown large enough, Morty's relative size would return to his normal size. It's a plan. I don't know if I agree with it, but it's a plan, and it's fast.
- No bactrim or nitrofurantoin for the kids. And I doubt the train system would pack those specific drugs too.
- Hep A may not linger that long, but Morty has been in that body for far less than a day and the body also died, so the immune response would probably have stopped altogether. Assuming it worked to begin with (Rick may have messed with his immune responses to let it persist)
- Hep C chomping Hep A at the end is a Jurassic Park reference. "Good guy" T-Rex shows up and chomps a raptor that was going to kill the kids at the end of Jurassic Park. The raptors buddies then turn on the T-Rex, allowing all the humans to escape to the helipad and leave the island. Hep C is the T-Rex, Hep A is the raptor, the nipple hole is the helipad, and Rick's piloting the "helicopter" for them to escape.
- The blood rain at the end is likely the red blood cells having been broken by the force of the (extremely large) TNT destroying the (also extremely large) body, as well as any potential surviving cells breaking up during reentry due to terminal velocity and heat. Like dropping a big drop of water off a roof and watching it divide on the way down into a fine mist. All the diseases in Ruben's body would have been destroyed by the blast or at least super heated from reentry.

Your liver doesn’t actually “regrow” the part that was donated. The left over liver enlarges to take over the responsibilities. Imagine your brain, and the left hemisphere being removed. If it could regenerate like the liver, the left lobe wouldn’t regrow. The right lobe would simply enlarge to take over the extra work.
The only reason this stuck out to me, was because I asked my surgeon post op if I could donate my liver again eventually since it “regrows” and he explained what I just explained, but much better than I did lol

Why did he enlarge the dead guy?
Movie logics!
Since the shrunken people can't use the intended escape routes so Rick can properly unshrink them he just enlarged the entire dead person, effectively unshrinking any shrunken individuals inside in the process. That way he could easily save any (now normal sized) survivors.
