    Hello! My name is Kristen, I am 24 years old, from Sacramento CA, and I have a BA in Psychology from Sacramento State University. I created this channel for three reasons that are very close to my heart. One, to help others be able to tell their stories and be advocates for mental health, to give recovery tips and tricks to help others find the help they need, and to spread awareness for mental health issues to fight the stigma surrounding it. The more we talk about mental illness the more normalized it will be in our society and the more people will not be ashamed to get help!

    2 weeks ago, I relapsed and didn't told my mom because I don't wanna bother her (she's an amazing mother) (my friend found out today that I'm cutting) and today she told me that she's two months pregnant and I'm sooo excited that I've decided to leave everything for my baby sibling and be a role model. Pray for me!!

    I loved the book when I read it about 5 years ago. And when I found out that there's going to be a TV show, I was really excited. Yes, the show is triggering but oh my god I love it.

    Yesss! I've been looking for good representation. I always see representation with things like alcohol, drug abuse, and anxiety (which is good) but never self-harm. Makes me feel alone and misunderstood. Thanks for this video!

    Hey girl! First off, I’m so glad you’re back, your videos have helped a lot. Almost a year ago I was diagnosed with BPD and I showed your video to my Mum and it helped her a lot to understand. Anyways, about Sharp Objects I’ve on the fence whether to read it or not because of the triggering, I guess I could try the series. Thanks for this video. Btw, what to you think about the second season of 13 Reasons Why? I thought it was much better and the storyline about Sky’s bipolar was well treated. Also, have you seen Crazy Ex-Girlfriend? I’m so in love with that series and its reviews, it depicts in a very organic way the reality about living with BPD. I would love you to make a video about it!

      Evan Kaspbrak I have not seen 13 reasons but from what I have heard, it glamorized suicide and did not portray it in a accurate way. It caused more problems then actually raising awareness. Sharp objects does not glamorize self harm. It does not portray it as a suicide attempt. It shows that it is an unhealthy coping skill for a lot of people and how a family deals with it.

      Sharp objects is heavy in its visual story telling and most allusions to mental illness are shown and not told. Which for me is a much more realistic representation as most people in real life who suffer mental illness don’t wear it on their sleeve. The show also doesn’t bloviate these issues into caricatures of themselves. The self harm is very apparent but it also shines a light in npd, bpd, depression and addiction in subtle ways. Even sexual abuse is alluded to in meaningful ways and not reduced to a spectacle for shock value.

    As someone who cut daily every day from 2012-2015, I was just cringing so hard when watching sharp objects. My friend who only read the book said I'd love it, maybe he is right if I had just read it instead, but after we both watched it all for the first time I just got so annoyed by the gal, it wasn't upsetting at all but I was just mad that they had such a brilliant idea but the visuals are meh. It's not the writing at all, I love how realistic the storytelling is, it's the visualization of all of it that they did strangely. I also don't know if the actress herself has scars, but I'd find it much more embracing and supportive to hire an actor with real scars. In Hollywood they're kicking you the hell out if you're covered in scars. You've seen the drama they've made around Demi Lovato, it's not pretty, she's pretty much cancelled these past years. They've made a huge step by making this series, but I'd still like to see them actually giving an actor with scarring a real chance. I don't find it as extreme as the case of hiring cis women to play trans women, because it's a horrible idea to encourage self harm in connection to acting carers. But I think you get what I mean in regards to this role. Yeah it may have been triggering for more people if the actress had real scars, but if they're going to be real go all the way.

    I just.. I feel the need to tell someone this. Yes I know I comment a lot.
    So, all my friends have tried self harm. And one stopped, and one "Kept going" She says she cuts.. But.. I went swimming with her, and there was nothing. She said she cut on her ankles and wrist. I know she could've been careful, but we were comparing the skin tone of our wrists. NOTHING. No marks. No scabs. And she is very pale so stuff should show for longer. And this was about.. A week? after she did it. I've done it sooo shallow but it still takes months. And she always wears shorts, flip flops, and short sleeves, sometimes crop tops.
    And it bothers me. She is that tumblr type girl that says she has this and that, and is this sexuality, and this gender when she won't go near a girls lips. I could see her saying it for attention. And I struggle with self harm, I just had an urge right before I started writing this, and I am trying to stop so badly. It just pisses me off she'd do that. I know she hasn't cut. Cuts, no matter how shallow, leaves scabs, then marks, then, if they were very shallow, they heal nicely, if not, there will always be scars. Any advice?
    Bye, thank you for reading. c(. _ .c)

    • @jakedrake3660
      @jakedrake3660 5 лет назад

      she might be either just scratching her wrists with her nail like i did just to release the stress or i am sorry for saying this (i will hate myself for saying this) she might be a total liar and has been possibly thinking that she could get some attention out of it or she could be doing this to make you feel closer and unintentionally making it worse!! sorry for a late reply
