I have been watching your videos on building a bioactive tank very impressive. You have inspired me to have a crack at it myself, I have managed to get together all the parts needed apart from the touch 'n foam expanding foam which seems to be out of stock everywhere, do you know of a safe alternative foam to use?

Obviously i would remove him from the tank then clean it. But still. Thank you! Also your videos are amazing i watch every single one of them when they come out. Keep on with the good work! 😁🤩👍
Best to avoid that. Exo terra do a fairly good glass cleaner, it's like a gel. You can also use white vinegar, if its glass you want to clean up. But the safest is probably a reptile-safe disinfectant :)

Awesome job!! It looks amazing! I just built my crested gecko bioactive setup yesterday! I get springtails from Josh’s frogs in the post today. Would you recommend putting springtails in first and then isopods if there is no gecko in the enclosure yet? (And there won’t be a gecko in there for another 2 weeks) I heard you mention how you weren’t going to put insects into your enclosure yet because there isn’t enough waste/organic matter yet. Does this only apply to isopods or is it also for springtails potentially damaging the new plants in there?
Thank you :D Aw nice! Technically you can put them in, but I'd recommend putting lots of leaves and stuff in for them to eat. Springtails shouldn't be as destructive as springtails. You may also be okay with isopods, it's just drogos old tank is like over flowing with isopods, they wont stop breeding 🙈 so i decided to wait before I added them.
@@leopardgeckotalk Thank you so much! I got the springtails in the post about an hour ago and it’s so cool to see them moving around in their culture container! Omg this tank is so pretty!! I have a quick question how to not get water marks on your gecko tanks? I have water spots everywhere and they are so ugly. Hopefully you know what I mean haha.
Yeah I get them really bad. Some people suggest RO water, but there's a bit of a debate whether thats actually beneficial to the gecko or the plants. I just give the glass a good clean now and again with the Exo terra glass cleaner :)
How do you find these new habistat vivs . Are they loose at all once put together or totally solid and do they seal at the seams well once put together .

Hi I was just wondering were would I put the heat mat in a leopard gecko bio active tank I am not sure weather I put it under the drainage layer or not I am hoping to upgrade to a deep heat projector in the future but for now all I can get is a heat mat
A heat mat really won’t work with a bioactive setup and they’re not a good heat source in general. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option, Arcadia’s deep heat projector is the second best option.
Leopard gecko,I have a question I just got my gecko yesterday and she seems she doesn’t know where her warm mat is but she keeps going on to of her cave and her hammock and that’s where the heating pad is I was wondering if I should switch it into a log but I don’t want her to get scared when I move stuff around because she’s a little skittish and im just worried she can’t find her heating mat(update:she’s happy and found it and loves the belly heat she’s much happier now that I switch it into a log instead of a cave
Heat mats honestly aren’t a great heat source, I strongly recommend switching to overhead heating. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option, Arcadia’s deep heat projector is the second best option.
I have a baby crested gecko (in my profile pic) and I really want to go bioactive when he gets older. The problem is the tank he is in right now is too small and i'm having trouble finding an 18x18x24 for a good price. any recommendations? (Im American btw)
reptile tanks are usually outrageous prices. one thing i’ve seen others do that i’m gonna do myself is use a fish tank and then get a vertical conversion kit for it! an 18 18 24 exoterra is usually $200+, while a 29 gallon fish tank (same size) would be about $35 at petco during their dollar per gallon sale and then another $30-40 for a conversion kit. that’s less than $80 for a slightly more DIY version of a $200 product and it works JUST as well.
Hey i need advice my gecko doesnt eat very much and it doesnt dig alot and stuff geckos do what should i do to comfort him? Edit: i have him since november 2021
Sorry to ask on youtube but can anybody help? Have switched my sons crestie to eco earth from paper towels (with mesh and clay balls) but today(hasnt even been a week) im noticing what looks like mould! Will this harm him, do i need to spot clean or completely redo the viv? Its not actually a bio active set up. Plants are artificial. Can anybody pls advise x
Hello Leopard Gecko! I have a question to ask you. My leopard gecko has a tail injury and a piece of the gecko's skin is sticking upright, should I try to remove this skin or let it alone?
Assuming you mean actual skin and not shed, do not remove it. It would be a good idea to take the gecko to an exotic vet to treat their tail. Quarantine them on paper towel until they’ve fully healed.
So, my leopard gecko just reached 3 months old, but I cant find any definite details on what to expect, how well developed has supposed to be, or if I should be doing anything different with his food. The femoral pores are becoming noticable, but I cant find out if they appear earlier in one gender or what the average time of appearance is. I doesn't help that I cant find a proper scale to weigh him with, or an single reptile experienced vet in a 50 mile radius. Sorry for the length, butwhat has you experience been at this point typically?
It’s not good that you don’t have access to an exotic vet, that’s very important when keeping exotics. Any digital scale should do. If the femoral pores are very prominent then they’re likely a male. Regarding your food question, what’s his diet/feeding schedule?
At the moment, he gets fed every day alternating between mealworms, their pupae, an crickets, with an occasional waxwork treat. Usually 5 to 7 worms/pupae, 7-9 crickets since the petsmart only has smells, no mediums. Dusted in repache calcium plus every day, but I plan on getting UVBA and separating calcium, d3, and vitamin dustings.Cant do Dubias Cruz someone in my house has a pretty severe phobia, cant find live silkworms, locust, or butter worms nearby, but I plan on ordering some silkworms soon. They're easier to digest an have a good moisture content, and pretty decent protein.
@@thisissarcasm9579 sounds good, it’s great that you’re going to provide UVB and a varied diet! My only suggestion is to not feed mealworms too often, they’re fatty and not healthy for their main diet. Fine to feed occasionally, though. You can also feed black soldier fly larvae, as well as occasional superworms and hornworms once he’s big enough. It’s great that you’re going to order silkworms, they’re very nutritious and most geckos love them (mine usually goes crazy for them).
You don’t need a dimming stat, any stat will work with a DHP. Although I highly recommend using a halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat, they’re actually more natural and beneficial than DHPs. The levels of IRA and IRB they produce more closely mimic the sun.
@@nightinggale6470 unfortunately I cant use that because it produces light, im just trying to heat a crested gecko tank at night, thank you for the suggestion and the advice its rly appreciated, also all the information i come across appears as if i have to get a dimming stat for a dhp but its not true? it wont break the dhp? also ur comment just made me think of something, the sun isnt even out at night so is a dhp still worth it over a che for a crested gecko?
@@samf2812 a dimming thermostat is the best type of thermostat (it’ll prolong the life of the DHP and is less likely to malfunction), although on/off and pulse stats work just fine. I use a pulse stat for my DHP and know many people who use on/off stats with no problems. And yes, a DHP would definitely be much better than a CHE (DHPs produce IRA and IRB, CHEs only produce IRC). However, you might not even need heat at night. What’s the tank’s temperature at night?
@@nightinggale6470 the cage tempature is 68 degrees at night i know i dont need heat but i feel like the gecko would appreciate if he had the option to warm himself up, so i was planning on doing what leopard gecko herself does and put the dhp on one side of the enclosure, thank you for letting me know because i was really abouta to spend 130 dollars on a herpstat, that seems to be the only dimming stat i can find, and a exo terra one which is even more expensive, i know heating the geckos tank may be pointless but im hoping to see if it helps the gecko at all

@@leopardgeckotalk ants Canada is expensive but I’m getting it because it’s the easiest to get but where can you get queen ants from?
Which scalpel/blade did you use to carve the foam?
Exo Terra vs. Habistat, what is you opinion?
im. looking for a standing day gecko setup cus they are Arborial
but i think this will work
Do the plant lights you use work well through the screen top?
As far as I know they should work fine through a screen top.
Hello love jou vids an i am getting a leopard gecko vor my b day an it is a mack sonw

What are the tubs/bins you use for your feeder insects

Hi I was just wondering were would I put the heat mat in a leopard gecko bio active tank I am not sure weather I put it under the drainage layer or not I am hoping to upgrade to a deep heat projector in the future but for now all I can get is a heat mat
A heat mat really won’t work with a bioactive setup and they’re not a good heat source in general. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option, Arcadia’s deep heat projector is the second best option.
Where do you buy your cork bark and driftwood?
Hello
Hi how do i know how old is my gecko?
would this work for leopard gecko?
I have a baby crested gecko (in my profile pic) and I really want to go bioactive when he gets older. The problem is the tank he is in right now is too small and i'm having trouble finding an 18x18x24 for a good price. any recommendations? (Im American btw)
Have you looked for a second hand tank? Lyra's was second hand, saved me a bunch of money.
reptile tanks are usually outrageous prices. one thing i’ve seen others do that i’m gonna do myself is use a fish tank and then get a vertical conversion kit for it! an 18 18 24 exoterra is usually $200+, while a 29 gallon fish tank (same size) would be about $35 at petco during their dollar per gallon sale and then another $30-40 for a conversion kit. that’s less than $80 for a slightly more DIY version of a $200 product and it works JUST as well.
Hey i need advice my gecko doesnt eat very much and it doesnt dig alot and stuff geckos do what should i do to comfort him?
Edit: i have him since november 2021
What’s your setup? What’s the hot spot temperature and is your thermometer digital or analog? What heat source are you using?
Do you have any places/websites you recommend to buy plants off?
I tend to buy them in person at my local garden centre, but I know 'The reptile centre' online sells plants :)
@@leopardgeckotalk Thankyou, i will visit my local garden center later today!
Does the habistat website deliver to America anyone know?
sadly not, and im not sure why 😭
Wish they shipped to the us
So, my leopard gecko just reached 3 months old, but I cant find any definite details on what to expect, how well developed has supposed to be, or if I should be doing anything different with his food.
It’s great that you’re going to order silkworms, they’re very nutritious and most geckos love them (mine usually goes crazy for them).
i cant get the dimming stat for the dhp in the US what should i do? i just ordered a dhp from arcadia off joshs frogs
I've heard the herpstat dimming stat works well with it.
