Are you able to enjoy the game or is it just a blur while you're working? Do you know when your camera is on the feed and when it is a different angle?

    Remember this. The original purpose of Yadi standing up so early wasn't to get Joc at 2nd, but to let the runner on 3rd base know that he is fully aware of what play is coming, so when the steal attempt happens, the runner on 3rd thinks twice about rushing to home plate on a throw to 2nd.
    The main goal is preventing runners from advancing, whether if it's by throwing runners out or by preventing them from attempting to steal.

    • @737smartin
      @737smartin Год назад +13

      FANTASTIC point! Not a force, so if the runner at third comes home on a double-steal, he could beat a rundown tag-out from second and score the run.

    • @bitchmodesquad
      @bitchmodesquad Год назад +29

      They were so stunned and frozen in their tracks when Yadi stood up that they thought maybe he was calling time. Instead, he called a pitch out and made the runner and the managers look stupid for calling that steal. Yadi nodded at Goldy because he knew exactly what was going on, and he probably already warned them about it on the mound visit, too. Goldy gestured with his own nod to go ahead and throw it. He didn't shrug confused, he tilted his head right as if to say, "Ok, go ahead, bring it this way!" Goldy was going to go with whatever Yadi wanted to do, because it's Yadi.
      There's not many guys in history who had the baseball IQ and awareness that Yadi had.
      He even proved it his rookie year in the 04 World Series when he caught Manny Ramirez trying to steal signs. Yadi backed down from nothing!
      He was a defensive genius, had a rocket arm on pick off throws, and could hit well, too. He even stole a few bases despite being the slowest guy in the league. He just knew when to catch them sleeping. One of the greatest ever behind the plate, no question!

      Very cool. An obvious action that communicates 'I see what you're trying to do, don't do it because I'm ready'. This also is apparently done by some prey animals like the Pronghorn and the American Woodcock, they do a very strange and distinct movement when they see a predator nearby to forestall their attack, trying to tell them that it's not worth attacking because they're alerted to their presence and the attack will fail.

      This was the pitcher's fault. Yadi doesn't know when he is going to come home. When he stands up, it means he is ready to receive the pitch. Given the situation, the pitcher has to come home immediately. It's a pitch out, so he doesn't need to concentrate on location or the runner. Throw the ball to Yadi right away, dummy.

I actually really enjoy it after learning so much from Jomboy and the context to make each aspect of pitching, hitting, and catching intriguing. Plus the surrounding storylines and dramas and umpires makes baseball a very complex yet subtle enterprise. It reminds me of chess but with the competitive aspect of football that im used to. Maybe even more competitive. The psychology of baseball players is still a mystery to me and unlike any other sport ive seen. Maybe its just the coverage of the sport or the time between plays when you watch them but also interviews ive seen of ex baseball players becoming world class endurance athletes from the competitive mindset of baseball. Jason caldwell for example only played college baseball then got injured and picked uo rowing. Almost made the Olympics after only 3 yrs then went on to set the world record team boat crossing of the atlantic and Pacific. Sorry for the rambling just been watching football yrs completely ignorant of the elite level of baseball players hmm

    Are we getting a pujols pitching breakdown?

  • @lukedawg2787
    @lukedawg2787 24 дня назад

    I’m born and raised in St. Louis, what isn’t mentioned in the video or comments is Yadi’s shear amount of confidence in his ability and his teammates’s ability to pull this off. This is a common play in baseball regardless of how many outs the team has, but yes most common with 2 outs and a man in 1st and 3rd. In most cases, the catcher lets the guy take 2nd because it doesn’t make sense to make this throw when you have 2 outs and 2 strikes. 1 bad throw and not only does a run score but chances are the guy you tried throwing out is now on 3rd. Teams know this and will send their runners thinking it’s an easy steal. This is a dumb throw to make. It’s a long throw that the catcher has to try and come from behind to make. The runner breaks as soon as the pitcher starts throwing. Now the catcher has to catch the ball, pop up, grab the ball, and throw it accurately. More often than not the throw is either way late or sails over the 2nd baseman’s head. The runner on 3rd could walk backwards home and score. It simply makes more sense to focus on getting the batter out unless of course you have Yadi behind the plate.
    The meeting on the mound was to let his coaches, the 1st baseman, the 2nd baseman, and the pitcher know that he was either going to gun down the runner on 3rd depending on his lead, or he was going to gun down the runner going to 2nd. He knew the runner stealing 2nd was slow and wanted to take advantage of that if possible. So Yadi isn’t reading signs to figure out the play, Yadi isn’t looking at the coaches, he is looking at the lead the 3rd base runner has. He was checking to see if the runner had enough lead on 3rd to throw it down there and gun him down. If the runner did have a decent lead he was going to stay down and throw it down there to catch the runner off guard. When he saw the runner on 3rd wasn’t far from the base, he popped up early so he could be locked and loaded to gun down the slow runner going to 2nd. As soon as he knew there wasn’t going to be a play at 3rd he popped up so he could already be in position to throw it to 2nd. Most bad throws to 2nd from catchers comes from having to pop up, grab the ball, and throw it as quickly as possible. He eliminated half the process. The base running coaches didn’t care that he popped up, in their head they want the catcher to try and make this throw. So regardless of Yadi popping up early or not they are sending the runner.
    It has nothing to do with no one looking at Yadi, trust me everyone was looking at Yadi. As Yadi said, he knew from the scouting report that the Giants love to do this. What you don’t realize is that Yadi didn’t tell you the full scouting report. He also knew they send them with the assumption the catcher isn’t going to attempt to make that throw because of the risk level. In most cases, the catcher doesn’t have any intention on throwing it to 2nd but will fake it to see if they can catch the runner on 3rd breaking for home plate. Yadi popping up early was an audible. Yadi told them in the meeting on the mound, option 1 was 3rd, option 2 is 2nd, if it’s option 2 he will give the 1st and 2nd baseman a nod and that was their key to get ready. The 2nd baseman started sliding over as soon as the nod was given.
    It was a lot less of “knowing” the play and reading signs, and more about how confident the Cards were in his abilities and how the Giants, and many other teams, severely underestimated those abilities.
    The take aways from this play should be more about how well Yadi sold his intentions on making an attempt at the 3rd base runner and that his coaches, teammates, and himself are so confident is his abilities, that they are willing to take a chance on those high risk plays. Yadi’s scouting report definitely highlights all the runners he has gunned down at 1st and 3rd from runners not paying attention. The 3rd base coach kept his runner close enough to the bag so Yadi gave the nod and switched the play to 2nd. The easier out is the 3rd base runner not paying attention for a quicker, shorter, and more accurate throw.

That was good enough for Ozzie Smith, who had worse hitting numbers than Molina.

      @@camicawber Also catcher isn't really an offensive position either.

      @@dankburrito8345 Not primarily - but there are guys who do both. I would put Molina as my No. 1 defensive catcher, but if I'm going to have my pick of any catcher throughout history, there are a bunch of guys I'm picking over him because they can come close to providing his defense while providing much better offense.

    The way you end every video with a creative plug to the sponsor is so much a part of the entertainment from these videos😂
    I always forget that you do that and then you tie it in somehow, some way and I end every video with an audible "HA jomboy get fuCKED" while I go to the next video laughing. Great stuff

    This breakdown is word class. No one does it better for us fans.
    Oh that play: it's the base coach's fault as the base runner's focus is on the pitcher's first move.

    something yadi is so good at. he watches the game like no other. no other catcher is worried about the managers in the dugout let alone what the first base coach to whispering

      I'm not ready. It's gonna be sad when the season ends and all three of these guys retire. I bought tickets to game 162 so I could see their final plate appearance.

    Everyone was focused into the pitcher and 1st baseman, catcher probably could've stood up a second earlier and got away with it. Great read!
