Sure, there's the fancy quilted maple top, the matching headstock, the bound neck, but it's the romance of the classic Ibanez model name, S670QM, that really gets me.
Had a made in Japan RG570 as my main guitar for years. Ended up having to sell it in 08 and finally bought a Prestige last year. The Japanese models are no joke.
I owned a late 80's Ibanez with a Floyd Rose in the mid 90's. Changing strings with a Floyd Rose and locking nut almost made me quit guitar entirely. I'd likely appreciate it more these days. Great review as always Landon!
I have always wanted an Ibanez. I like their AX120 models and their jazz guitars a whole lot, and I lust after their hollowbody basses. You literally can't go wrong with them.
Love the AX body shape. It's just such a comfortable guitar and the necks aren't paper thin and wide like their RG guitars, it's closer to a squier tele neck shape. Super comfortable and very resonant guitar and mines only a gio gax30, imagine the upper range ones are insanity
On a lark, I bought an RG a couple years ago. I was taken in by the turquoise sparkle. It has the same pickups and floyd rose bridge as yours here. Now after two years, I am sold on the Wizard neck and floyd rose and can't switch off from them to another brand. I did my home work on the floyd beforehand and once leveled and tuned, mine stays that way. Great all around guitar.
As someone who sells guitars for a living I can tell you Ibanez is one of the best for the buck guitars you can get. Great quality control and amazing necks! Guitar or bass. Fender and Ibanez has been my two favorite electric guitar manufacturers for the past 30yrs. Fender is my number due to my own conditioned bias. Nothing like a Japanese Ibanez though.
I own an RG550. I really like it. My only complaint is that it’s a royal pain to change tuning. It took me forever to get it down to where it’s a half step lower. Other than that, plays like a dream. Sounds like 1 million bucks. Super versatile. Would never get rid of it.
Always was a tele/sg player. Due to disability, I had to start figuring out and narrowing down specs for comfort and ease and all that. Eventually I tried an Ibanez RG for that wizard neck. To my surprise something about the RG body shape just ended up being the most comfortable out of all the "super strats" I tried. The pick ups sound good for what they are, but not really my style so I've swapped for Duncans to get a more "classy" sound. But yeah, I never thought I'd end up playing Ibanez shredders. Turns out I love them lol.
Have the same guitar. It sounds great and feels great to play for the price. I tune that thing each month. My Edge Zero 2 is super stable. Not close to my Ibanez Prestige Guitars. But they are also twice the price.
Landon…FYI…on most Ibanez trems, inside the stud posts…they use a lock nut…if you decide to raise or lower the string height you need to put the tiniest allen wrench down inside the post to loosen that nut before you can raise or lower it…not sure on this particular model but it is on most low pro edge trems…I’ve seen people break them before!!!
I've had several Ibanez guitars...I have now their classical elec.and a full jazz archtop hollowbody of theirs that it my most expensive guitar..it's a very fancy beautiful finish and rolled edge fretboard...just a quality guitar.
The name breaks down in chunks, s is obviously the s (short for saber) series, the 600 is what teir in their pricing it is, 70 is one of the two designations for hsh configuration (the other being 50 but idk what the difference is), and qm is for quilted maple.
Now this IS indeed a surprise! Here I am moving away from guitars with whammy bars, buying a Tele, and you're going in the opposite direction! Whuuuut? Cool though! Very pretty guitar. I have an Ibanez RG but it's a cheap one. Dark sparkle blue with a maple fret board.
Have fun with that floyd. been looking for an S series model without a floyd for a long time and my local shop just got the SEW761 and I jumped all over it. i play shredder guitars in non metal situations. I play a lot of different music and love the specs on these and many schecters with the thin C neck. The flat necks make lead of any style so easy. When i go back to a "normal" rounder neck I miss notes when doing triple and quad hammer ons in a run.
The only Ibamezeses I remember ever trying were a 335 style, and a 3/4 classical guitar that I bought for someone, and I think that's just soo ironic when you think of Ibanez. I would really like to try an AZ, and maybe if you get a chance, that'd be a really cool model to review if you want!
I love you too, Landon! 😚😂 I can’t believe this is your first exposure to the world of Floyd. I’ve got Strats and Floyd-equipped Ibanez, LP-style and PRS. All are mandatory, I tell my wife. Have fun with it!
my first electric guitar was a beat up early 90s Ibanez EX series. I have 6 guitars now, one for every month I've been playing I guess you could say, but my next is absolutely gonna be an FRH10N (I can't afford the TOD10N Tim Henson pro model). Hollow body as thin as an electric (not this electric though, damn that things thin) with nylon strings and an acoustic bridge pickup, but with a narrower, thinner, radiused neck. I feel like it'd be the most comfortable "classical" guitar to play for me, used to solid bodies
Oh my, where’s the Tele? I’m very pleased to see the Ibanez. Beautiful instrument, I’m considering this model as my Grandson’s first Axe. Long live the Brotherhood of the Six Strings. Excellent video Landon.
Nice Ibanez shred guitar with Floyd rose ,me i'm going to Buy Godin Freeway Floyd! 80's90's When i was 18 and want rock and be a rock star, now il Play for fun jam all day long because I have strock, Nothing to Do but playing guitar !
I got the red S570b - gorgious! The Flody has ball bearings, best of all times! I modified the pickups to a HH setup (I find the middle one and its combinations very thin!) Tonerider ones: B: Rocksong N: AC4 .
Great video, and like one of the earlier comments, I’m late in the video… Anyhow, I’ve been toying with buying a “shredder guitar” after handling one in the studio where I take lessons. Morning coffee and late night surfing guitar pages set the stage for bringing me to your page. The video gave an excellent/ honest review without forcing the viewer to watch your guitar prowess vs your opinion and overall quality of the guitar. Some videos seem like endless riffs on each pickup and little insight on the product. That’s time the viewer cannot reclaim in life… As a side note, you can’t hide that Canadian accent - anymore than my wife (of many years) can hide the fact she’s a Newfie in the “By God” south (North Carolina)! LOL! Ok, enough of the banter. Great/ honest video and you picked up another subscriber today! Cheers!
S is the body shape, 670 is the model, QM is quilted maple then the other is the color code. I'm more of an RG fan than the S, body is a little small for me. My first guitar was an early 80s MIJ Squier Strat but played Jackson and Kramer for most of the 80s. I've enjoyed my Fenders a lot in recent years. Picked up an Elite Tele used that I love then just pre-ordered the Kingfish (from Sweetwater of course). I'm loving the Elite it "might" replace my Ibanez J Custom 8570z which has been my main since I got it about 4 years ago - both are phenomenal. Congrats on the first IBZ, always good to keep a shredder around... it may grow on ya! :)
I have never had the pleasure to check out any of Ibanez' S-series guitars, but I do own 2 (heavily-modified) derivatives of Ibanez' Jem-series guitars: A 1991 EX370 and a 2001 RG220B. They're both very different from your S-series; I might like to try one sometime.
I was just checking out some Ibanez's, not a shredder style. I started out as a bass player and had a very beloved Ibanez Roadstar II bass, so I thought maybe trying out one of their guitars would be cool. Are the God's speaking to me? Doesn't take much to talk me into buying yet another guitar.... I'm not alone I know. Hope all is well up in Canada Mr. Landon. Peace.
Cool!!!! I have S and SA. Oldies because of low weight and fast necks. I came from Telecasters to Ibanez. Video approach is spot on. Don’t own a car 🤪Welcome to the Fambly 😃🤙🏼. Best Regards and Best Wishes!
I've had an Ibanez RG550 since 1991, and there's not much left of the original guitar. It's had a new neck, new switch and pots, new knobs, two sets of pickups, and it's in having a new trem fitted. I hate them Ibanez terms, I don't like the way the arm always drops down, and I don't like the way it feels. The necks very thin, as I'm used to Gibson, and Fender necks, but it's a great guitar, and I'd never sell it. Ibanez guitar's are very different to other guitar's in the way they feel. M
If you want a high end S series Nita Strauss' new signature JivaX2 is up for pre-order. If it's not the highest end S series it's at least the most expensive right now lol. Otherwise the Prestige line are the high end S series guitars. For other series the higher end Ibanez guitars are like the J Custom RGs or the Steve Vai Pia.
@@landonbailey Same inlays on her cheaper signature models as well, the Jiva 10 and Jiva Jr, but the JivaX2 (and the discontinued JivaX) are the only ones made in Japan. The other two are Indonesian.
It seems confusing, but they have a system behind the letters and numbers, wich helps. I once took me the time to read on the Ibanez site. I forgot much, but the first letters is the model (if very first is „G“ means GIO= entry level). The following letters are naming the higher end model on wich that Gio is based on. Last letters are for wood, finish, color. Numbers in between are telling if top of the line or lowest specs or in between. So, on this guitar in the vid, „S“ means the model „Saber“ with a slim body, „QM“ is quilted maple. The first number „6“ is higher than 5, 4, 3 … so, a better spec’d model than the lower numbers. Beginning with 7, 8, …. those are towards top of the line of this type. Much more I don‘t know to tell.😊🤷🏻♂️ Maybe I could help a little.
Love the Ibanez. I did block the trem on my 2007 RG and just got a modded one with a hardtail. That’s just me. I did like a Jackson with a non floating trem that was fun, tho.
An Ibanez review?? Who is this?? What's your operating number?? Seriously, nicely done and appreciate you taking a closer look at something totally unexpected.
I know I'm a few months late or so, I've been playing Ibanez mostly exclusively since the late 80's. The naming of this is It's an S series body (Saber) which is the thin, rounded horns. 600 series their higher NON Premium series. Ibanez kinda has this "tier" thing, these are at the top before getting into Premium Ibanez which this version would be the S6570QM the biggest real difference between the two is the Premiums go through more of an attention to detail type build, and after market pups, like Dimarzio's on the Premiums. The lower Ibanez are the The QM is for the quilted maple top. As for being out of tune, yeah with floyd style guitars I generally won't lock the nut down till i've put some time in on stretching the strings really good and playing and using the whammy etc.. really get the strings broke in. Then I'll let it sit a day or so, then go back repeat, then tune it and let it sit again about a day, then tune it and lock it in and generally they'll stay in tune till it's time to replace the strings.
You need to get a string stretcher. Put them on stretch them good tune , tune and tune. Put your fine tinder’s in the middle of their travel. Tune lock down and fine tune. Do not adjust that bridge with full on string tension!!!!! Is will dull the knife edges!
Now you've got to learn how to do pinch harmonics and dive. I've read a lot about how floyd rose style bridges are always hard to setup and retune, maybe a video about that could be cool.
I have had a couple of Ibanez guitars with locking trem systems. I just don’t have the patience for them. I liked the guitars a lot, but couldn’t get the hang of changing strings on them, so I sold them off. I have a few shredder type guitars now - Schecter, LTD, Jackson, and Ibanez Gio - All with either hard tail bridges or strat style ones that have been basically blocked off. No dive-bombs for me, and I rarely even dig out the old “wiggle stick”…. Not got much use for it anymore 😂
As I get older I don't get along with the flat thin boards. The body is way to thin for my mindless chugging and the middle pickup would be in my way. I had a s series and a couple rg's over the years and they were good guitars though.
I think it's cool your trying other guitar brands mate. Although a George Harrison tele has come up for sale down here for $7500 aud. Is that a good price. Anyways good vid on the ibanez. Can't say I've played one either. I'll check them out.
@@landonbailey thanks mate, my wife has the deciding vote on this one. It would be one I'd never sell. That's the problem. I'm always selling and rebuying.
those kind of guitars once you get it in tune you fine tune it with the knobs on the bridge and then its locked in and will stay in tune if you whammy the shit out of it
I went through an Ibanez phase. Mostly because of Steve Vai... They are pretty great didn't have any complaints with the one I had. But that was also 12 years ago 🤷♂️
This was an awesome video. You should check out Yamaha Pacifica PAC611HFM TBL. This one of pacifica high end models, very underated in my opinion but I do hope u check it out some day
Still saving for my first electric. I already have acoustic from Fender and it sucks. Sharp frets, buzzing over 12th fret even after set up. I know for sure, i won't buy another guitar from this brand
I want one, they make the same guitar with a different color that I want, but I would be just as happy with the blue one.. Man do I love the Ibanez S series guitars, The JivaJr is basically this same guitar with a different inlay and the finish looks amazing too.. I.. want .. one lol.
@@landonbailey :) I wish I could, but sadly I can't at this time. Long story short, I have no extra money and just enough store credit at my local Guitar Center to get one or the other, but they are out of stock on both at this time lol.

Try an Ibanez Pia model. The best guitar I have ever played. Coming from someone with 40 + guitars.
You should try the Charvel dk22
I have the same one and i love her!!! ❣️
Ibanezs are just sooooo good!
Hope to get a 90’s green dot universe some day. Big morbid angel fan here
That thing wants to rock out !
20/20 vision baby! My optician must be lying to me
🤪
You need to get a string stretcher. Put them on stretch them good tune , tune and tune. Put your fine tinder’s in the middle of their travel. Tune lock down and fine tune. Do not adjust that bridge with full on string tension!!!!! Is will dull the knife edges!
I always preferred the S series over the RG series.
I'd like to try a mid-range one, without the locking nut and FR style bridge.
Now you've got to learn how to do pinch harmonics and dive. I've read a lot about how floyd rose style bridges are always hard to setup and retune, maybe a video about that could be cool.
true!
Not got much use for it anymore 😂
omg that was the last guitar i was expecting to see
s is sabre the qm is quilted maple... i have that exact guitar as well
👍🎸
Thanks for the eye exam, I passed! FYIwould like a treat.
😝🎸👍
As I get older I don't get along with the flat thin boards. The body is way to thin for my mindless chugging and the middle pickup would be in my way.
I had a s series and a couple rg's over the years and they were good guitars though.
The 2 and 4 positions on the switch split the humbuckers and I think sound just great for cleans. Very quacky
Try an Ibanez AZ model, it will become your favorite guitar.

Hey I have that exact guitar!
I think it's cool your trying other guitar brands mate. Although a George Harrison tele has come up for sale down here for $7500 aud. Is that a good price. Anyways good vid on the ibanez. Can't say I've played one either. I'll check them out.
that seems to be around the price I see people reselling the GH Tele on Reverb
@@landonbailey thanks mate, my wife has the deciding vote on this one. It would be one I'd never sell. That's the problem. I'm always selling and rebuying.
Nice CD collection
those kind of guitars once you get it in tune you fine tune it with the knobs on the bridge and then its locked in and will stay in tune if you whammy the shit out of it
I went through an Ibanez phase. Mostly because of Steve Vai... They are pretty great didn't have any complaints with the one I had. But that was also 12 years ago 🤷♂️
Kinda need to hear you do some Sabbath covers now 🤘
S is my favorite ibanez
Nice looking axe. I don't think I'd buy it, but it sure is purty to look at.
This was an awesome video.
You should check out Yamaha Pacifica PAC611HFM TBL.
This one of pacifica high end models, very underated in my opinion but I do hope u check it out some day
Checking...
A shredder? On your clean tones I wanted to sing a Beach Boys song! Nice sound and very distinctive looking from F and G/E. thanks for reviewing it.
it was GnR!
@@landonbailey I loved the playing including the GNR.
you should try an ibanez rg prestige
The guitar is cool but the Silverchair is awesome!! Love the channel.
Thanks!
Still saving for my first electric. I already have acoustic from Fender and it sucks. Sharp frets, buzzing over 12th fret even after set up. I know for sure, i won't buy another guitar from this brand
👍🎸
OooOohhh Two back covers to take off?! 🤔
It’s neat. I like the idea of thin. Good on you for getting out of your Tele zone
Meanwhile I got 3 teles in 2022
@@Ottophil With months left to go to get more!
Thanks!
I want one, they make the same guitar with a different color that I want, but I would be just as happy with the blue one.. Man do I love the Ibanez S series guitars, The JivaJr is basically this same guitar with a different inlay and the finish looks amazing too.. I.. want .. one lol.
get two!
@@landonbailey
:) I wish I could, but sadly I can't at this time. Long story short, I have no extra money and just enough store credit at my local Guitar Center to get one or the other, but they are out of stock on both at this time lol.
Do you enjoy playing it with the thin neck and body & flat radius or will you gravitate back to Fenders?
it's different for sure. I still like my Teles the best
This guitar seems no longer available where I am in the UK.
time to move! :)
@@landonbailey Lol! Or Maybe get the SA260FM!
Wow! A Floyd Rose! That's a new one!
Indeed!
The ultimate pub-band-guitarist who-plays-80s&90s-covers guitar.
Shredzilla!
my car's warranty is already spoken for! NIce try though...I'm guessing this was a literacy test?
