I have always said Eric Roberts is very underrated as an actor. Give him the right script and he can steal a scene.
At the end when he said I know my rights, she still would have had to finish them to avoid any technicalities he could get off on later regarding that.
Not if the ex cop had superior knowledge
@@NoHomerS Doesn't matter. Cops HAVE to read you your rights when they arrest you, period. It's the law, unless you waive your rights, which I'm pretty sure you can't do until after being mirandized.
From FindLaw:
"Before a suspect can waive their Miranda rights, they must first be informed of those rights, and must understand the rights as explained to them. From this point, the behavior of the suspect can constitute implied waiver..." I suspect New York is pretty strict in this area.
I ever heard a case that the cop said “if you can’t afford an attorney, one will be appointed to you”…. And it was a technicality because the cop didn’t say “if you CAN NOT afford an attorney”

They only have to read them to you when they're about to question you, not at the time of the arrest. Cop shows have them read to the arrested person on the spot for drama's sake.
Eric Roberts is one phenomenal actor. He plays scum of the earth you love to hate.

Phenomenal actor and criminally underutilized. Dame as William Fichtner, although Fichtner has a lot of big movies under his belt.
He played The Master in the Doctor Who TV Movie pretty well, I thought.

Ann Dowd, a very underrated actress, who plays Louise Dunning here, starred in the movie Compliance. Much like the SVU episode with guest star Robin Williams, the movie is inspired by the true story of a fast food restaurant manager getting the phone call from a "cop" claiming that an employee stole money.

Simple, take a gunshot residue test. How convenient they didn't do one for his hands. Probable cause... he saw the guy a few mins ahead of the shooting, the threatened the guy a few mins before the shooting, he owns a gun. Gee... can't get a warrant for that?

It's kind of funny in a dark way, when the guy tells Stabler he should be careful or he'll end up like him. Years later, Stabler DOES end up going crazy and taking things into his own hands.

I have a slight love-hate episode I mean the victims are criminals themselves so a lot of people would agree with this guy but that doesn't make what he does ok he's playing judge jury and executioner and I think he's using these victim's past as an excuse.

In regards to that guy at the beginning, what are people’s thoughts & feelings towards men who pick up girls, who say they’re in their 20s who then turn out to be younger than 18?
That scenario can happen with someone who means no harm and sincerely believes he's with an adult. There's another "Law & Order" episode dealing with the murder of a fashion photographer, as I recall. Mike Logan is questioning the mother of a young female model. The mother shows Mike a fashion/glamour magazine, asks him old he thinks the woman on the cover is. Mike guessed she' was 28. The mother then said the model was only 16. I remember an Elle magazine cover from way back with Shalom Harlow on the cover who looked about 25 or 30. I later saw her in an interview and learned she was only 15 at the time of the photo shoot. I don't recall for sure, maybe Joan Leslie, but one of Fred Astaire's movie dance partners was only 17 at the time they worked together. Many years later she admitted she was only 14 years old and lied about her age.
Some underage girls can pass for young adult women and maybe even more so with makeup. Too, but maybe not so much, some teenage boys can look considerably older than their years. I recall a young man who lived in my college dorm and was surprised to learn he was only 19, a year older than I was. At that time I thought he looked more like someone 30 years old. Some young people are just more physically matured than their peers.
Male or female, there are underage people who can and will pass themselves off as being older than they really are.
The club that checked her ID should be the one liable. I walk into a bar I should be able to assume that anyone in that bar is 21 or older and would have an ID to prove it. That guy got fucked.

I hate it when shows and media go 'oh this guy has five guns he must be evil'. Its the guys who own ONE that you need to be worried about because they only need one. The train on it and tinker with it to make it perfect for them before doing whatever it is they want to do with them.
