I don't understand why anyone would refer cases like this to the college and not the actual police.
For one thing, the more common thing I see people bring up for this stuff, there's a much lower standard for evidence (when I started college there was a mandatory program that explained they would punish someone if they thought it was more likely than a 50/50 split, literally punish you if they felt your guilt was more likely than a coin flip) that will inevitably get innocent people punished.
But the other thing that gets neglected, but shows in this clip, is that they don't have the power the properly punish the bastards that really are guilty. If someone rapes me before I graduate, I don't want that person expelled from the school, I want them in prison where I know they can't get to me again.
I dunno, maybe that's exactly why they go to the school system. More likely to "convict", and thus maybe more likely to get that person away from them, even if it's an inherently unethical and less effective way to punish these crimes.
Totally agree. This was made a long time ago so idk if this is relevant but my school had its own campus security officers who I think were policemen but they were employed by the school. And since my school was in NY they would tell us not to dial 911 because it would take a while for officers to get there so they had a direct number for the on campus officers who could be there in minutes. From there on, I don't know what they do but that's what they did at my school 5 years ago when I was there
I mean if they're really guilty, there's a serious risk that if they are guilty, they'll just try to sneak onto the campus and come after you as revenge. And I doubt it'd end with another r word.

i think it’s pretty clear why people don’t go to the real police, police have a history of not doing their jobs. Victims of abuse don’t trust them so the campus police uses that to pressure them into keeping it internal and that way the campus doesn’t have to report it. Also a lot of people have conflicting feelings about reporting it to police because they may not want to put that person in prison so they think expelling them is a better option. But i agree with you, i definitely wouldn’t want them to be only expelled, id want to see them rot in jail

I think the unit would have not trouble getting access to those records if the "Gate keeper" was told she'd be arrested for obstruction of justice.
I really liked Benson's short haircuts as IMO they really suited her.

Off the record means no statement taken, no official record of it being said, can’t be used as evidence, and no one there speaks of it afterwards, just a private word from person to person nothing professional

They want people to like her character as a person, not just bc she’s an attractive woman. Outside of a pant-suit, they’re dressing her like her male colleagues. They want an unconscious connection to form with viewers that she is no different from the men she works with. Its probably also why she kept her hair short for so many seasons. Long hair is an immediate eye catching detail most commonly found in women.

It's too bad she got an abortion. I'm sure there are plenty of couples that were willing to adopt her unwanted baby. There was a great video about man educating people about the truth about abortion. When she got the procedure she made the child pay for the sin of the father.

Can u imagine having yourself pregnant without any recollection of the conception? Easy to say to just go through pregnancy and have it adopted when pregnancy itself is hard while going thru emotional trauma from being raped
Easier said then done. That poor girl had a right to do whatever she felt was necessary. She didn't legally consent. Pregnancy also changes a woman's body that no man will understand or experience.
