Charlie thank you for bringing back old memories. My grandmother was one of those people who had her own store out of her low income apartment in Lake Charles Lousiana. The kids & adults would come from miles around to get her frozen cups. U made them perfect. When my grandmother made her frozen cups it was like taking a science class everything had to be measure down to the T. Other women in her complex would try & sale frozen cups but they where no match to my grandmother. Besides her special love she put into making them she also had 2 secret ingredients she put in her cool cups, that definitely kept them wanting more. My grandmother would get up early in the morning because the kids would come before they went to school. Believe it or not this is how my cousin college got paid, my aunts down payment for a car & also my cousin was able to have a beautiful wedding off that strong black woman hard work. I can go on & on about my grandmother. I learned(I know this isn't proper grammar) so much from her. All her wisdom is what keep me going daily. Thanks Charlie for not letting those old traditions die. May my grandmother aka mother Dear R.I.H!😇
You're welcome Barbara not a problem! I appreciate the compliments! Wow some people don't really measure their ingredients. Oh yeah I'm sure she made a lot of money off of them. lol People were really hustling back in the day making all sorts of sweet treats. Thanks for sharing your story.
Small world ! I stumbled across this video because I was trying to explain what a frozen cup is to my friend in St Louis…well I’m also from Lake Charles ☺️Goosport…my frozen cup lady was Mrs. Willie Mae …this was a great story 🫶
My auntie use to make these frozen cups for us when we were children, she use to put bubblegum in them before they frozen, we LOVED them in the hot summer months! 😋❤️
Ice cups sounds fitting. Wow they still sell them today? I thought it wasn't the same as it used to be. There's still a few people who still makes them. Thanks for sharing your story.

In Chicago we call that a “Icey” or “Icey cup” or “Slushy”. Funny how every city/state calls it something different, but is referring to the same thing.
I’m from the south side of Chicago and we used to have this guy walk around selling Icey cups when I was a kid. 1$ a cup! I was just telling my kids about him and then this popped up!
Those frozen cups look so amazingly delicious Mr Charlie. Growing up here in Louisiana, they were a great summer treat as a child. We bought them for 25¢ for a small one, and 75¢ for a large one.♥️🦋
Heyy Minda! I appreciate the compliments. Yes you are right about that. These were a great summer treat as a child. All the frozen cups I had were the same size and the same price 25 cents. I wish they would of had a larger one for 75 cents. lol
I'm from Houston. We called them Cool Cups. They were sold everywhere in the summertime. If you didn't have one as a kid, what were you doing with your life 🤷😂 I haven't had one in 25 years 😊 You just brought back so many memories 😂

“Im not a child anymore” lets be honest, all of us adults will always have our inner child in us ☺️. Especially when it comes to our childhood tasty treats. Thanks for sharing!
GA Homesteader91 I heard that from a few people that's from the Baton Rouge area. It does seem fitting as the liquid is frozen in Dixie cups! All the one's I had was 25 cents. The highest price I heard was from New York. 2 dollars and 50 cents. lol
Oh my goodness you have brought back my childhood we used to do those when we was growing up and I thought we only did that in North Carolina I didn't know everybody was doing it that is a childhood treat right there thank you for sharing
Yes Monica. Looking at these comments with all the different names and regions. It's definitely a universal thing. Happy that this video brought back memories. You're welcome not a problem.
We just called them Slushees in NC, and I lived right across the street from the candy lady house. I use to be over there, every damn day. My Moma use to be like yall making that lady rich 😁😅🤣
Yes! That was the worst!!😂😤😢😂😠😂😂, especially if you couldnt get another 50 cents right away and all you could do was watch everybody else tear theirs up!!😂😂😂😂
It's amazing how this simple frozen treat instantly brings back happy childhood memories! Awesome job Charlie for choosing vibrant colors that make the presentation "Pop".
I appreciate the compliments RLS. Happy that this video brought back memories. Oh yeah absolutely. I wanted a colorful presentation as that's how it was growing up. It wasn't just one flavor or color. People had several different flavors and colors and I wanted to present that in this video.
CHARLIE!!! You’ve made my day!!! Frozen cups are a childhood staple! You know I was raised in the South so this goes even beyond New Orleans. I think that most black folks who grew up back in the day had these. 😂😂 This is a summer MUST! ❤️❤️
Hey Alethea. I am happy to hear that I made your day! Yes you are right about that. Frozen cups are a childhood staple. Yes it does go beyond New Orleans and the south. People as far as Canada have fond memories of this popular treat. Lets say it's a universal things! We can all agree that this is a summer MUST have treat! :)
Here's another SCarolina. Chilly bears is the official name for this frozen treat for their area. Yall not like other states where they have like 6 other names. lol
ShonRich21 I was looking in the comments for my Charleston peeps! I’m a child of the 80s, and we used to buy chilly bears from the “candy store” (which was this older lady’s house) for $0.50. Those were some good times!
Lol ours were 25 cents too. And yep, there was always a Candy Lady or Cool Cup lady. We had everything, went to her for pickles, cool cups, chips, frito pies and more. I doubt if these ladies exist anymore.
Max McMahn It's more than 3 now. LOL Everyone has their own opinion, name and story behind this popular frozen treat. Some people like it and some people may not like it. It's cool with me! :)
I'm from Jacksonville, FL and we call them Honey Drippers! We add fruit too. Now I gotta go to the Honey Dripper Hut and buy some to hold me over until I make my own.
Where is the Honey Dripper Hut located? I'm always in Jax. I lived with my grandma for a while and I remember going to the candy lady house for Honey Drippers. Great memories!!
Charlie watching this video brought back so many memories. When I was a little girl, back in the 70's, my oldest sister and I would visit our family in New Orleans. Every summer my grandma would make huckabucks and sell them for .25 cents to the kids in the neighborhood. Well Grandma, Helen Taylor, went on to be with the LORD a few years ago, but this video made me think of her.
Wow that is Awesome Shannon! I appreciate you for sharing your story. Happy that this video brought back memories of that time and of your grandmother. :)
Charlie great...introducing cold cups back..I sold them as a stay at home mom..the community had a ball eating them...one day I boiled my sugar water and made them..it allowed the cups to freeze really slow..that way the ice freezes in a fine snow cone type way..when you bite it or spoon it..the ice would shave off very fluffy.
I'm thinking of how to make space in my freezer for these. I'm going to look for the pineapple flavored kook-aid. My favorite is tropical punch, blue raspberry, or any other flavor mixed with lemonade. You brought back memories with this simple but good hot weather treat. Thanks Charlie
oh yeah these can take up a lot of space in your freezer. The tropical punch is my favorite as well. Glad this video brought back memories. You're welcome not a problem!
It's cool seeing all the different names their called in other states. I'm from Tampa, FL and we call them frozen cups. I loved the ones with pineapples on the bottom.
I know right Shirley. It seems like a universal thing. Oh yeah the addition of adding the pineapples at the bottom takes it up a notch. Really good! :)
Same here Ms Stephanie! In New Orleans some people call them Icebergs as well. You wouldn't believe how many different names it has. Everyone from different regions has a different name for it. This is definitely a universal type of thing.
Omg How beautiful all this looks. Charlie you have such a gift of not only cooking. But placement of everything. These colors are sooo inviting!!! Im in Hammond Louisiana visiting. Family. And Im making these for my grandbabies. Thanx so much Charlie.
@@CharlieTheCookAndrews my grandchildren all Thank You Charlie. Your recipe sure make them all sooo happy. Its turned cool down here. But these babies are loving these Frozen cups. ❤❤❤
I miss these so much when I was little there was this lady that use to sell theses an everyday from walking from school I use to go get one a muffin this lady use to make I’m not sure what kinda muffin it was but it was so good 😊 this brought back so many memories when I use to live in New Orleans I moved when I was 15 years old I come back to visit there on my birthdays but this made me miss home so much thank you 🙏
Wow that is awesome Victoria. It's crazy how so much time has passed and so many things have changed. Glad this video brought back memories. Thanks for sharing your story!
Oh yeah them pineapple chunks at the bottom it was sooo good. They even had some with fruit cocktail at the bottom too. Those were good but I love the pineapple ones muchhh more. Glad this video brought back memories.
Ahhh Memories of the good ole days. It’s so easy to make but we used to line up after school to buy them from this lady. Now I see how much money she was making for something so easy to make lol. We called them frozen joy in my country. Lol thanks for taking me back Charlie. Good one!
Yes absolutely Erica. Oh yeah people were making quite a bit of money off their frozen treats and other snacks. Wow frozen joy is different. Never heard of that name before. You're welcome. Glad this video brought back memories!
Dixie cups seems fitting as that's the exactly cups they were frozen in! Glad this video brought back memories. I appreciate the compliment Kimberly. Thank you!
In some black communities of Florida in the 1970s, we called them "honeydrippers". And we just called them by their colors instead of by the actual flavor...... Great memories!
Yes the cups were much smaller. I was actually looking for the smaller ones but couldn't find them so I worked with whatever I had! Wow quite a few people have mentioned about the Lilly Dillies. I'm getting used to the name now. At first I was confused as to how it got it's name. I guess it's a regional thing because they are so many names.
Brother Charlie new to your website love the videos makes me miss my home town I’m from the 13th ward uptown now I live in Elpaso been here since Katrina keep making them videos brother
In New Orleans during my time we called them. ZIPS. I love the expression on your face when you took your first bite ,it was priceless 😂😂 Thanks for sharing
iloveoldschool what part of Alabama are you from, because everywhere that I’ve been in Alabama they were called frozens or frozen cups from the 70’s until now. Bebops must be a new name?
Never had these before but they look delicious! They remind me of a type of slushy. Thanks for giving this recipe from someone living in the west coast!! It’ll make a great summer treat!
I bought some tropical punch and pink lemonade today! This hot weather made me think about making some. I haven't had a frozen cup in decades. I'm making half with fruit and half without 😋
We used to go to the “Two Flavor Lady” because her huckabuks would be two flavors!!!! I would get pineapple and cherry!! I’m gonna make some this weekend!!!
What's up New Orleans native. I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed the video and that it brought back memories. You're welcome. Thanks for sharing the memories!

Tina Griffin nah shawty lol I can’t let you make it wit that one. Check this out😂 I can’t tell you about no (dickie suits, Cortez, chuck tees, 6-4’s, weed, palm trees and gang banging like a west coast person can) that’s a west coast thang. Gang banging is everywhere but not like west coast and up north. You can’t tell Chicago and New York people about pizza no where else cause they know pizza, New Orleans gumbo and Popeyes chicken if you ain’t never had it, lol don’t talk about Popeyes and gumbo to em cause they gon shut it down. You can’t tell down south folks about no blues and bbq and hole in the wall clubs , see boo this ain’t no American situation. Lol certain things are stamps and trademarks for certain parts of America. Shawty , if you’ve never had a down south freeze cup with the syrup so thick on the top till you gotta drain it( some folks add the wonka nerds or the gummy worms ), a kool aid pickle in the ziplock bag some folks like the candy cane wit it, the frooties with the multiple colors( which is becoming common now and the hot chips), pig feet in the jar 🔥but the down south combo is like Rucker park in New York to down south hoods lol you ain’t from no real down south hood if you can’t relate💯 str8 up🤣😂
Omg!, I live in North Florida, we called them “HoneyDrippers”, adding Sweet kool-Aid, and Karo Syrup at the top, made it sweeter!, also adding fruit (pineapples, cherries)to the liquid made it awesome
Kendall xo You are right about that. Oh yeah I remember the good ole ice tray where they would take kool aid and add it in there and freeze it. People were pretty creative back then. They used whatever they had, unlike today's world. Much different than those days.

I appreciate the compliments. Thank you!
Charlie, you took me back to my childhood living in New Orleans!!
I know right. Glad this video brought back memories! Thank you! :)
I'm 48yrs old and I still make Dixie Cups. My kids look at me like I'm crazy and I just say to them " its a childhood thang you wouldn't understand."
That is awesome! Good to hear that you are keeping the tradition going. Thanks! :)
That’s what we used to call them , Dixie cups, we’re the 70’s babies!!
Charlie, I really appreciate your videos. I also love how your kitchen is always so clean and tidy. Great work!
I am happy to hear that you enjoy my videos. I appreciate the compliments. Thanks!
In Charleston, South Carolina we call them “chilly bears”.
Ayyeeeee!!!!
Here's another SCarolina. Chilly bears is the official name for this frozen treat for their area. Yall not like other states where they have like 6 other names. lol
@@CharlieTheCookAndrews 😂😂😂😂 And doesn't it just have a ring to it?!
ShonRich21 I was looking in the comments for my Charleston peeps! I’m a child of the 80s, and we used to buy chilly bears from the “candy store” (which was this older lady’s house) for $0.50. Those were some good times!
Charleston 💪🏾 The pineapple chilly bear was my favorite 🤤
We called them “icees” in Maryland, got them from the neighborhood candy lady. Brought me back to my childhood.
Awesome. Happy that this video brought back memories. Thanks for sharing!
They were called Cool cups during my time ! ☺️
Same in Miami
I call these icees also 😊
Same in newyork
All the way from the 242 Bahamas.Loved these growing up.They are making them with 2 and 3 flavors in 1 cup.Delicious.
Wow, that's awesome and good to hear. Really creative with the 3 flavors in one cup. Thanks for sharing your story.
In Alexandria La we called these “Frozen Cups” 25 cents each! And we had a candy lady damn dear every other street. GOOD OL DAYS
I know right! Same here in New Orleans. Definitely the good ol days! Thanks for sharing!
In Pineville all we have was a candy lady since the store was too far but she sold at .50 a cup along with freezer pops, ice cream and nachos.
Lol ours were 25 cents too. And yep, there was always a Candy Lady or Cool Cup lady. We had everything, went to her for pickles, cool cups, chips, frito pies and more.
I doubt if these ladies exist anymore.
I remember them being called frozen cups too😊
Cool!
The 3 people that hit thumbs down had terrible childhoods.
Exactly!
yep so sad
Or wanted to see liquor added into the mix 😏
🤣😂

Boiling the sugar water does play role in the texture and it does make it more fluffy when shaved off. Absolutely! Thanks for sharing your story!
In Jamaica we used plastic bags fill it a little less than half and made a knot we called them suck suck or coolings
Girl you betta mix that koolaid with lemonade! I don’t even drink that stuff but I know how to make it good🥴

You're welcome. Oh yeah some people used to put fruit cocktail at the bottom of the frozen cups. That was really good too. Yes absolutely! :)
It's cool seeing all the different names their called in other states. I'm from Tampa, FL and we call them frozen cups. I loved the ones with pineapples on the bottom.
