The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Don't be sad that the good old days are gone... Be glad that you got to live in them..
Believing that every single day as our world gets weirder and weirder 😮
True, to an extent. HOWEVER, (even) at 53, I, STILL, LONG FOR THE PAST! In my opinion, Cher said it BEST, "If I could turn back time!"
I agree and we always can revival The old good and Nice days from 60's.Greetings from Brazil.

You are so right!!!
My dear sweet Momma went to high school with Johnny Ramistelli!! She said he was a real sweet guy. In Baton Rouge, La.

Oh how cool..... loved him 🥰😘
I glad to hear he was nice. I always felt like he was nice. And so handsome
I love his music and voice. 😍
New Iberia Louisiana here. Born and raised. Still here.
There is no true Rock and Roll Hall of Fame without Johnny Rivers in it. Case closed.
If Del Shannon can be in the Hall, why is Johnny Rivers not in there? A far better performer.
RR HOF is a joke. No Johnny Rivers? As Paul Rodgers put it, "I dont think rock n roll belongs in a museum."

Is this rock music?

The dancers, the stage set up, the colors used and Johnny's silky voice. Amazing live performance.
Silky is right...
I liked how 2 of the dancers changed positions once he reach the bottom of the ramp.
Man its not just Johny’s singing that I’m amazed, but those nicely dressed women doing the back up dancing as well.

Praise our Lord Jesus Christ for such wonderful Blessings
Back when people and music was normal and talented.
Nothing normal about lip syncing to a song when there is no band playing or back up singers, but thats the way it was back then
Johnny Rivers is huge in South America/Brazil . He has come many times to there, where he's been considered a Big Star.
Long Live to Johnny!

Concordo, sou brasileiro e você foi muito feliz em seu comentário.

Nos bailes de garagem, só dava o cara! Muito bom!!
numa boa desde os anos 70, sou ligado nos sucesso das músicas de Johnny Rivers.
Look at those beauties. I lived thru this period as a young teenager . Those girls were really something back then!
Waaay better than the strip club pole dancers at concerts today....back when dances had names.
@@garyaugustus690 None of those ladies look young. The one up the 1st step looks the youngest and she looks in her mid to late 20s. The rest look in their early 30s. Today they would not even be considered as dancers for pop music.
@Peorhum ....
Nobody mentioned age but you....take it up with someone who cares about your opinion of female dancers..
@@garyaugustus690 hahaha. I am NOT putting them down for their age at all. Just saying with they have more class then today's dancers. Picked more for their professionalism. Picked because they can show up, be shown a move, learn it in minutes and be expected to carry it out despite any distractions that may happen on live TV. Dancers of today are hired often for looks alone and taught dance steps and learn them over weeks/months and travel with the artist. Doing the same as these ladies did likely would hard for them.
Johnny made it down those ramps without breaking a note!! Killed It!!

Pretty sure it was lip synched
It's not the same as the vocal track that was used on the single. Was probably a pre-recorded vocal (especially for the ES Show) and JR then lip-synced to that. @@mjphoto45
I've watched this video many times because I love it and also to study it. And to see if he lip-synced and I've concluded that he didn't. Performers rarely lip-synced on The Ed Sullivan Show and Johnny Rivers was a performer who wouldn't want to. He moves down those stairs not only slowly but carefully coordinating his whole body and with his singing. I love the subtle feeling of how he's "made it" going with his strong singing of the end of the song. 💕🎵
He's lippin' it but still great.
How could anyone not LOVE Johnny Rivers that voice thos looks what a guy he’s a ladies man
@eulenedisharon7218 yes he was so handsome I could listen to him over and over again I hope you will reply to this
Johnny Rivers has a great voice, it makes my heart happy to see the younger generation interested in the music I grew up on
Nobody sounds like Johnny Rivers. He has a unique voice and delivery, that is quite charismatic. It's why Johnny had big hits for 15+ years. Agree with what others have written here: Johnny Rivers belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Johnny Rivers was one of the best singers of the 60’s and70’s and he is still rocking it in 2023! I didn’t know his name back in the 60’s, but, I sure loved his voice and enjoyed swaying to the music! This man is a Legend and needs to be inducted into RRHF. ❤

Back when we were all alive.
Back when performers dressed classy, and the show was presented with class, dancers and especially good tunes...I grew up loving the sounds of the 60's...I still listen to them...
...and back when they danced really weird.
Class act always! Love the way those dancers danced! It was the best of times.
Me too !!! Even 40's and 50's
@Dustin Travers And they dance normally today? Maybe you’re not used to seeing dancing that involves bumping and grinding and practically doing x-rated moves. That doesn’t make dancing from the past weird. Typical modern ignorant jerk.

@@EyeAmTree I assume you lived back then. There was still a lot of prejudice towards black singers, and it was common for record companies to record songs using black and white singers, especially for Southern audiences . H-D-H laughed all the way to the bank.

Simply the best. Musician, composer, and great voice. Sad that today not revered as should be. Took long car trip listening to him. Went fast. Mountain of love my favorite
One of my favorite covers by Rivers. Once again though, here we are in 2024 and Johnny Rivers IS NOT in the vaunted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Now that's a crime! Only give me a thumbs up if you agree with me..........
My favorite Johnny Rivers song. It"s perfect! A great song!
Before the era of 'reality' TV and wannabe singers.
except for the fact that the song is not his, originally! Four Tops wrote it!
I already knew that but Johnny was a really good singer anyway.
@@PedroFerreira-ze5yp The Four Tops absolutely did not write this song
Johnny Rivers just sang the exact same song and words as the Four Tops classic. He just the song at a lot slower pace and the words were more clearly spoken or enunciated where the audience could understand the words more. And it still turned out to be a huge hit song for Johnny Rivers, still wonderful but just in a different way from the Four Tops version.
