Every time I hear this song, It takes me back to my teenage years in the late 80's early 90's- my dad would drive me around on my paper route and we'd listen to 60's music, then go to Mcdonald's for breakfast before he had to head off to work, and I off to school. I can still feel the air conditioner running at full blast in our van in the 4am darkness- dad and I having some good father/son time. We spent a lot of time driving around going places when I was growing up....used to listen to songs like this on AM radio before "oldies" stations took hold.
I grew up in this wonderful time. I tell my babies about it. If this generation would ever listen to good music it would be a blessing. Or they would mess it up, I'm afraid
I remember them. I love how they are dressed. The jackets are so cool 😎 😍 👌. I forget how they dressed back then. Men actually dressed with style and pants fit properly.
Grew up listening to the radio with my late mum while making Sunday lunch. This was one of her favourite songs. It just came on the radio in the car and needless to say the cheeks were wet
My Aunt was one of Gary Puckett's math teachers in high school in San Diego. He stopped by one day to say hi and she asked how he was doing and he gave her one of his albums and signed it for her. I guess he was doing OK, huh? She said he was a good student and always very polite.
Wow, I had a major crush on an older guy at 15 and he sent signals back. But….he sat me down to talk and basically spoke very similar words to “Young Girl”to me. I am forever grateful he did. But boy that song takes me right back to that place and time. Thanks for the memories Gary. God bless you
I'm 68 and when I was 65 I met a woman who was 30. She and I were close, but friends. Her mom was my age. But I remember the emotions I felt that took me to my youth. I was so happy to be her friend. That was enough. Just beautiful! I'm happy for your experience.
I grew up in Yakima Wa. where Gary was from. Union Gap was right down the road, and that’s where the bands name came from. I just turned 70 so I was 14 when these songs came out. Gary and the band used to play at a local night club called the Downton back in those days.
I bought this when it first came out and left the bar off my record player (remember them?) so it played over and over. Over half a century later, Gary’s voice still makes my heart beat faster and instantly takes me back to my teenage bedroom. What a song. What a singer.

It's was completely mimed by all. Period. Mamas & Papas mimed. Check out the Ed Sullivan RUclips site. Plenty miming. Apart from the Beatles of course.
@@seltaeb9691 And the Searchers. And The Dakotas. And the Animals. And Gerry & the Pacemakers. And many more. Point being, more acts played live than mimed in Ed Sullivan. Some records simply could not be recreated live, such as She'd Rather be with Me, or This Diamond Ring, and etc.
@Bungalow Bill - How nice it must be to "know" exactly which records are "completely mimed by all. Period." and which were actual live performances. Your prescience must be completely satisfying in cases like this where you're... completely wrong. At the very least the lead vocal is live, and it sounds like some of the backing vocals are live in addition to the ones from the studio version that is providing the main backup. How do I know the lead vocal is live? In a classic and frequent Ed Sullivan move, such as when he insisted that Mick Jagger sing "let's spend some time together" instead of "the night together", Sullivan made another last-minute lyric switch on "Lady Willpower" for Puckett. Sullivan was so conservative that the line "Did no one ever tell you/the facts of life" was just too risqué for him, so insisted that Puckett sing "the way of life", which he does, proving conclusively that he wasn't "miming" to the record, or "lip-synching" as we like to say in America. Plus there are subtle differences in his phrasing throughout the whole song that would be noticeable to anyone who is very familiar with the record. The stunning vocal quality of Gary Puckett always sounded as good live as it did in the studio.
@@souldeep69 Very well said... and saved me the time of saying same in my own post! You did it better than I would have... Gary was definitely singing live.
@donbvs - Thanks very much! Glad I could save you some time! I can watch this over and over, because it is truly an excellent live performance by Puckett, which equals if not betters the studio version. What a great singer!

Very beautiful and romantic ~~sung from the heart ❤️🧡💙💖💟💝💚💜💛☮️✨🙏💕♥️
Amazing song! I use to walk around singing this song when I was alittle kid. My mother loved it and would play it !
@Robert
How come you don't know the lyrics!. Fscts of life? Their not here
i mean, he's singing about pressuring a woman into sex, so hey, if you think that's romance, that's a bit odd.
@@atomeyes99 he WOOS a woman's LOVE in a very beautiful and romantic way!!! And so it should be!!! You shouldn't drag everything in the dirt!!!
Not only one of the most awesome voices ever...he was gorgeous, as well. I miss the 60's & 70's like crazy! 🙂🙂💘💘
Let's get a time machine and go back to those amazing years I would in a heartbeat 💓
As do we all!!!
@@brianhiggins3090 if we could go back I’d make sure they didn’t wear those green coats lol.
Yes the 60's and 70's were good times..With the exception of Vietnam..!
yes the greatest era of all for music most of today's does not compare
Had the pleasure of interviewing Gary on radio a couple of times. Great talent.
You gotta admit, these guys were great!
God I miss the 60s and 70s music. Best ever.
Underrated group.
just wished they continued on w/ the same guys. the group played from 1967 to 1972. waiting for CD box sets & DVDs
@@davidchan9632 They planned to continue until the typical scumbag types in the industry wanted to control them and write the music FOR them. Union Gap knew their music would suck ass and so they all quit. Gary went on solo for a few but without financial backing from companies, he also faded :(
Very
We're all still watching him perform after more than 50 years -- that's quite a high rating in my book 😊 Great talent
A few years ago early in the morning I passed through Union Gap in Washington State I stopped at a convenience store and ask the clerk if he could direct me or tell me where Gary Puckett lived the clerk said I don't know but here's the phone book it was a joke and the clerk didn't get it but my sister and I found it amusing I also saw Gary Puckett back in the mid-80s it was a dinner theater with Gary as the musical entertainment we were so close to him that well he's saying he also spit and he kept apologizing great show
Who's still listening to the golden voice of Gary puckett then you've got great taste's in quality music he's got a whole lot of soul in his VOICE EPIC make's me happy 😎🤓💯🕺💃🕺💃🕺💃🎼🎹🎼🎸🎷🪕🎺🎵🎻✊✊✊✊
I am still listening and anyone one else with class
HE’S A BUM !!
@@rickwaldron4255thanks for the kind words utter class song and other tracks I like "over you" young girl, woman woman all great track's ✊
Man he can sing!!! AND A GREAT VOICE !!!!
I think they go hand in hand, don't they?
Gary Puckett and the union gap should be inducted in the hall of fame
Gary's vocals were second to none when singing Lady Willpower!! 👍👍👍
I thought they used pitch control to take his vocal pitch up a few keys? That's how he sounded amazing on record?
@@kenjoneslee Nope; he is here singing live to the EXACT studio backing track. His range is A#2 to A4, about 2 octaves.
60's and 70's had the very best rock and roll. The boomer time formed rock and roll. I'm so happy to have grown up in that time.
So many groups and so many songs that defined two decades!
Man it brings back a lot of memories Gary Puckett and the union gap lady willpower what a memory maker where did the time go goddamnit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
a FAR cry from what we hear today... very few could compare. This was made a year before I was born. I love the music from that era
I love Gary Puckett! Awesome singer….Elvis even had his cd’s in his collection. I agree wholeheartedly with what you said and then you asked God to damn it. Ruined the moment…..
A class of his own. No contest.
Only seems like yesterday but its a life time ago gone in the blink of an eye.
This song and "Young girl" pure gold!
SUCH A GREAT TUNE ! TODAY'S GENERATION CAN LEARN FROM THIS AMAZING TALENT!
Oh great, another ageing snob 🙄
This man’s voice is the one I’d ask for if I could “wish” a voice. Powerful and beautiful at once.
Phenomenal hits from this spectacular vocalist. I'll never ever forget that voice or the hits they produced during those early times of my life.
OMG he has a great voice, wow!!!
When you got on the Ed Sullivan show, you know you've made it.
Top singer with top group supporting him, fab music from a fab era which unfortunately will never return again.
I love that he can emote without being over dramatic. Perfect voice 🌹⚡⚡📀
Exactly...there are so many vocalists today that feel they have to act out every single word with emotion that can be so maudlin.
a letter to my team 53 years our war a brother home my song to my brother
Garys grandpa was my bus driver back in the 70s, pelican rapids mn
Miss those songs and performers
Being a teenager in the 60 s a special time for sure
Wow, I had a major crush on an older guy at 15 and he sent signals back. But….he sat me down to talk and basically spoke very similar words to “Young Girl”to me. I am forever grateful he did. But boy that song takes me right back to that place and time. Thanks for the memories Gary. God bless you
I'm 68 and when I was 65 I met a woman who was 30. She and I were close, but friends. Her mom was my age. But I remember the emotions I felt that took me to my youth. I was so happy to be her friend. That was enough. Just beautiful! I'm happy for your experience.
It's 2023, I'm 68 yo & still listening to this God given gift of song voice by Gary Puckett
@@wnp67hi hope you are fine
I grew up in Yakima Wa. where Gary was from. Union Gap was right down the road, and that’s where the bands name came from. I just turned 70 so I was 14 when these songs came out. Gary and the band used to play at a local night club called the Downton back in those days.
i want to be stuck in the 60s
I bought this when it first came out and left the bar off my record player (remember them?) so it played over and over. Over half a century later, Gary’s voice still makes my heart beat faster and instantly takes me back to my teenage bedroom. What a song. What a singer.
Well fox 7 finely record players are fine comeing back.after all these years the experts finealy realized you can't beat old school
Yes I do and I still.have 2 and I'm.keeping them
The epitome of 60s pop music ..Doesn't get much better than this.
this takes me back growing up I miss those days this music and the people they were nicer and so where the times
Hope you are fine
When we were little kids every teenager looked like this to us.
best music of all time !
Romantic words, beautifully arranged by Jerry Fuller, soaringly sung by a powerfully gifted Gary Puckett - Um, what more could you ask? Wiil love this forever!
Yes nice. I remember this song during my youth.
Hi Elissa how are you?
when i want to hear beauty in a female voice i go to Karen Carpenter--and when i want to hear "incredible" in a male voice i go to Gary Puckett..what a voice!!!
Absolutely!!
Gary Pucket, yes, but also Johnny Contardo. And agree with Karen, too.
True that 💯
Karen had not really come into her own when she died...Just imagine what she could have done....she was the best....
Was 18 when this song came out...terrific time to grow up...
I am doing well...
Remember it from the 60s always loved it. Great music, great singers
Gary Puckett is a very unique talent with a very unique voice! If you have more of Gary and The Union Gap in the vaults, would enjoying seeing them! Thank you for bringing this forward and displaying the end of the video with Ed greeting Gary! Well done!
I saw Gary puckett a few days ago on my phone he's a.lot older now..
gray hair but they told how much how he was popular back then it didn't seem to fiss him he's shy then and now not big on complimentsrveven though he deserved all.of them
Just imagine that all this was done without the benefit of Auto Tune
What a time to be alive when some of the best music ever was being produced in the 60s and 70s. None of the music today even comes close. Sadly for a lot of young people they will never experience what real music is like.
You couldn't be more accurate in your feelings!
Never fails to hit that right spot
One of the greatest singers of all time, across all genres…so underrated. Sad.
How lucky we were to have grown up in this fabulous era where these masterpiece songs and groups presented themselves to us like we deserved them. We didn't, really, but no one was going to tell us that. What a gift and I will never think otherwise. God bless them all!
I remember seeing this performance on Ed Sullivan on the Sunday night right after my 10th birthday. In 1968, I thought this guy was ultra-cool. Seeing this video over half a century later, I still think so!
He defiantly had what it took to be a superstar!
I think you mean "definitely"😉
