- BMW E30 Restoration ep8 | LH wheel well | grinding
Welcome back to another episode of the BMW E30 restoration series. In this episode, I will tackle the rust of the left-hand side wheel well, addressing any rust and damage to ensure the E30 retains its charm and structural integrity.
This side is not nearly as badly rusted as the passenger side which I did in the last episode. However there is still a lot to work on since the rust is trapped between spot-welded parts.
Watch as I dive deep into the rust, showcasing the steps involved in this crucial repair process.
So what caused this rusting?
Its common to have rust in these spots. Especially in early E30 models like this car. The plastic wheel well liner, if equipped, can trap moisture against the metal surfaces of the wheel well, accelerating rust formation. Inspecting and cleaning the wheel well liner on a regular basis is essential to prevent rust from spreading.
Result:
This repair was easier since there was less rust and I had experience from doing the other side before. This side came out a bit different than the right-hand side. I might modify the right side later if needed. For example I did not make the holes for right-hand side wheel well. It is possible that I will not ever need these holes, but I would like to make sure that the body of the car stays as original as possible.
Plans may change during the project, so we'll see!
I used a huge amount of time to make this video, and I really hope you enjoy!

I’ve been redoing my e30 floors and have been struggling with mig settings as well. It’s nice to see someone working on a car that needs more work than mine, easy to want to give up as I find more rust
My current thought is my wire size is too large
Great job you are achieving..but looks like you need to adjust the settings on the welder..more feed or more amp it spitting a lot my opinion is more amp as its not penetrating properly. ..all the best on the refurbishment mate
Nice job.. keep it up. That wheel well is looking good. If you do get any haters commenting.. pay no mind.. you keep doing what you're doing.. You're doing a good job.
nice! Great job
When I F up with making a repair panel (which is pretty much everytime :), I just add to it and weld on bothsides and grind down. I dont have the patience to redo everything. Great work. Weld setting need a bit tuneup though.
Yeah. I need to disassemble the welder. Feels like something is impeding the wire from running.
@@kureirodoprodYes you can hear the wheels slipping in the video.
Brilliant
something is wrong with your heat or wire speed with your mig welder.
Indeed! A sounds like the wire burns back too quick. I think too low wire speed.
What are plans for the motor? Any swap?
Planning to keep the M10 :)
Надеюсь, со временем вы станете умнее.
