Excellent and honest stats as usual John over here in mid wales Jan / feb as been a bit low so it looks like a good summer is on the way. As it seems to always even it self out .I should be able to switch over to self power in the first week of march but am unsure weather to switch to octopus go from octopus Intelligent go because I will not be charging the Ev’s . I have not charged much any way just once every 28 days to comply with the t&g then it’s only been 10 / 15 % but every time it’s been half hour on half hour off and so on. Total grid draw for 2023 was 2300 kw of which octopus billed me 3.6 kw peak just a few watts here and there. I don’t think I can get it down much more than 2000kw a year but saying that I don’t try . One last thing I do hope when you get your heat pump serviced you make a video as to the best of my knowledge nobody has it would be very interesting to see what they do .All the best Glyn 👍👍👍

Thanks Glyn for watching. You do well on your electricity usage and the hope for self power in early March. Hope the weather is nice to you in sunny Wales.
Octopus Go no longer exists as a tariff, it's been amalgamated into Intelligent Octopus Go.
July is service month and yes I will do a comprehensive video of that when Mark comes and services it.
      Cheers John

Hi John. Very interesting to see all of your historical data, & your income from Ripple.
After living with our system for nearly 10 months I'm having 5 extra panels & another battery fitted next month. This will take our system up to a 15 panel 6.47kW array & 19kWh of battery storage. I would have liked a bigger inverter as well (currently 3.6kW hybrid) but finances won't allow it. The 5 extra panels will go on a WNW roof to capture more of the afternoon solar which we currently don't get with our 10 panel ESE array. The extra 9.5kWh battery will allow us to run the house for longer during the day on battery power only & give us more options for export sessions.
Our 64kWh EV gets charged / topped up most nights (Intelligent Octopus Go) & we also have an Eddi which only gets used currently when there is excess solar. We still have a gas boiler for heating & HW which is relatively new so while I'm not adverse to a HP I'm not able or willing to invest in one yet. I am however looking at Thermal Batteries or a HP HW Cylinder as an alternative to our existing vented HW cylinder. The problem is this will means switching to mains pressure HW & additional cost to remove & replumb the existing pumped showers.
Nothing seems to be straight forward & everything seems to be more expensive than the funds available!!

Thanks for watching Colin. Great to hear about your changes and additions to your system. I agree about the constraints around changing central heating and hot water arrangements and showers. Nothing seems straightforward and new innovations often don't integrate well with existing systems. Very frustrating.

Great stats, similar to mine again for usage but my winter figures are much lower for the E/W split of my solar. October 269.8kWh, November 161.3kWh and December 64 kWh.
Overall worst year of solar since installation, so had 5559kWh, usually over 6000. My ASHP used 2500 for past year

Thanks for your stats and for watching. You did not do well with solar over the year compared to your normal output. Hopefully 2024 will be better for you.

    Thank you John
The early pv installations with the lucrative fit payments have been quite good investments

Thanks for watching. Yes for once in my life being an early adopter has paid dividends, quite literally.

Your electric bill is more than my gas and electric bill and I certainly use the heating!
Something is going wrong if you are not saving money with that vast expense for solar and batteries, or your useage is like a factory unit.

If you want to compare usage then you need to compare like for like. Get yourself 2 EVs, 4 glass kilns, ASHP then we can talk. Even then it won't be like for like. There are so many variables brought into the mix, lifestyle, number of people in the family, routines, working from home or out all day the list goes on.
