    Recommend discussing battery chemistry. The powerwall 3 with LFP will last significantly longer cycle counts. Less dense but it sits in the garage 🤷‍♂️

      I thought about this.. however at time of video there was only speculation about chemistry... I'll consider doing a followup video on this ... Thanks fore suggestion and thanks for watching.

      @@solarbygreengreg Thanks! I’m thinking about having the system upgraded at some point over the next several years, maybe by adding a Tesla connector and another Powerwall in anticipation of one day getting a Tesla or another EV. And I don’t mind doing business with Elon.

    Fantastic video, exactly what I was looking for! Thank you from Maryland. I'm doing new construction and and considering non-tesla panels, so it sounds like Powerwall 2 is what I'll need (and probably 3 of them, haha)

      Yes PW 2. or PW3 ... I think PW3 available in Q2 .... depending on your electric use.. but yes having 3 batteries is common if want to run whole home. Thanks for watching.

    At this time, I am interested in battery backup without solar. What would such a system look like?

    • @solarbygreengreg
      @solarbygreengreg  Год назад +1

      A powerwall 2 would be best Powerwall option for this .... Wiring would be to a loads panel .. where you would have items you want to backup .. ie Fridge, etc .... Thanks for watching!

    I'm on the verge of getting a Powerwall + in about 3 weeks or so, since we're in the final stages before I agree for them to come install. I'm getting about 18 panels or so with 1 Powerwall+.
    Is it safe to say that I should just cancel this and wait until next year for Powerwall 3?

    • @solarbygreengreg
      @solarbygreengreg  Год назад +1

      Mmmm so the powerwall 3 can put out more power … however same size battery
      I think Tesla will … stop powerwall +
      Production since powerwall 3 has this advantage
      Weather you should wait or not is your call you could be waiting another 6-9 months meanwhile your spending money with electric co but you can run larger loads with Powrwall 3
      So you just have to think about that trade off
      Thanks for watching

    Hello from sunny England (!)
    My solar panels and Powerwall gen 2 are a few months old, so I hope to keep them for many years.
    I have a 5kw growatt inverter, the Gateway connected for whole house backup and then a single Powerwall 2. If I wanted to add a 2nd powerwall, it looks like the Powerwall 3 won't be compatible and I'd have to get another from generation 2, right?

    • @solarbygreengreg
      @solarbygreengreg  Год назад +2

      Yes that's correct Powerwall2 must be stacked with another powerwall 2 ... Tesla is going to keep making Powerwall 2 because there are certain situations where Powerwall 2 should be used.... Part of the point of my video ... is that although normally we all want the latest version sometimes that latest versiuon is not best choice.THe Powerwall 2 is a very fine unit so I think it will serve you well.... Great to hear from my English freinds! Thanks for watching .. Cheers!

    How much for the average professional install of a powerwall 2 ? My local solar companies are saying 7,000 just for installation hookup ?

    • @solarbygreengreg
      @solarbygreengreg  Год назад +1

      It’s difficult to price without doing a site visit abd seeing what Needs to be done … ie can your home wiring u powerwall does your main circuit panel need upgrade ? How difficult is install … local costs on permit and engineering differ a lot
      Get a few more quotes

    Thanks Greg, what exactly does the 11.5 KW continuous mean? Seamless backup transition - is this a soft starter for 1 or 2 AC's?

    • @solarbygreengreg
      @solarbygreengreg  10 месяцев назад +1

      Peak power is what the battery can put out only for a short time ie 10 seconds ... continuous power is what battery can output for a long time. For Ac units the big challenge is these have motors that need a big surge of power to get moving .. then power needed drops after say 6-10 seconds .. Batteries don't like to put out surge power ... For AC Units it depends on efficiency and how many tons the unit is.. There is an LRA rating on ac units from that your solar can advise battery needed... In Most cases yes I would recommend a soft start ... I think 1 POwerwall could drive one ac unit if its 3 tons and efficient.. to drive a larger ton AC or a second ac you will need at least 2 or more batteries... otherwise battery may get overwelmed by peak use and not last long when sun not shining on solar panels. Have your solar company check ac units .. from there proper battery sizing can be done.THanks for watching.

    Hi Greg, we installed a 13kw solar system for a 2 person household. We are still receiving between $100-200/month electric bill in Maryland. Is this normal, and will installing a battery bring my electric bills down?

    • @solarbygreengreg
      @solarbygreengreg  4 месяца назад

      It depends why are you still getting billed this amount? I'm not familar woith MD utilities.. Someone will need to look at your utility bills .. But a couple possibilities 1) If you are using more electric than you are producing then you may need more watts of solar panels ... of course also make sure solar panels are not shaded-which reduces electric production. 2) If you are producing 100% of kWH used but still getting a bill .. you maybe getting credit for kwh sent back at wholesale rate but when take power from grid get charged retail.. or have time of use rates --times of night /mday/morning where electric rates higher -- this is when a battery can save money and lower your bill .

    • @solarbygreengreg
      @solarbygreengreg  Год назад

      No cannot use power wall 3 …. You need power wall 2
      Power wall 3 is only for new systems

    • @solarbygreengreg
      @solarbygreengreg  7 месяцев назад +1

      Powerwall 3 is dc input only … I heard rumors that Tesla with make a change later that allow ac coupling ..
      So if you have enphase you need ac coupling .. ac input … powerwall 2 and Frankilin wh can do this ..

    • @gregm448
      @gregm448 Год назад

      Powerwall 2 has its own inverter that charges and discharges battery . You will need another inverter (any brand) to convert Solar panel DC to AC power ... so the power can be used in home or fed back to utility.

      @@gregm448 Thank you for clarifying my doubt, so if I want the powerwall 2 to work the same as a backup UPS and charge with a solar panel, is it possible?

    • @solarbygreengreg
      @solarbygreengreg  Год назад

      Power wall 2 charges from ac circuit panel AC in AC out it has own inverter
      Power wall 3 has Dc charging and ac out
      So can charge directly from solar panels
      Power wall 3 is fir new systems
      If already have solar panejs and want to add battery
      Then powerwall 2 is better choice
