The bar scene was originally written to be very short. But Tarantino said, as he began to write the characters dialogue, they just kept talking and talking and building suspense, and suspicion of each other!

Tarantinoverse connections: Michael Fassbender's character is related to someone in The Hateful Eight (I dont think you guys have seen that one yet)
Eli Roth's character (who was originally supposed to be played by Adam Sandler) is related to Lee Donowitz the movie producer from True Romance.

"Tarantino really likes his revenge fantasy" 😂 Talk about understatement! Almost as much as feet. But I loved how you got all of Tarantino's obvious telegraphs. I mean, he's not subtle, but still good insights. His violence tends to be a bit too cartoonishly gratuitous for me. Not quite as elegant or poignant as Peckinpah, but just as bloody.

I just have to say again what a pleasure it is to watch reactions to movies when the reactors have historical knowledge. It's embarrassing to say but you know more about World War II than the average American. I've seen reactions to this movie and they don't recognize Winston Churchill, they don't know Goebells is, etc etc. Really looking forward to Jackie Brown when you get to it!

      Ditto.
And I am one of those Americans whose less than perfect historical education has been made worse by the passage of time has passed between from my high school history class and now.

There were plenty of ex Nazi doctors and engineers who were excused of their crimes and given their military benefits along with new identities in the name of science and technology. Landa could have fallen under certain protections depending upon the nature of his release and cooperation in helping catch other higher ranking officials including testimony against them.

Christoph Waltz really is one of the finest actors of our generation...
Forget making movies in ones second language... He makes them in his third, fourth and fifth
    Respect!

Just realized I went on a date in '09, we saw Inglorious Basterds...went on another date in early '13, it was Django Unchained. I couldn't stop taking girls to Tarantino movies lmao (both were fun times, but no second date)

yeah, the scene in the woods with the Basterds, the first guy scalped was Tarantino (he likes to put himself into some of his movies)!

Christoph Waltz is the best evil actor I’ve ever seen. I’m glad he won the Oscar! Evil touching disturbing. My daughter was like: hell no, he speaks Italian as well!

I've always suspected that much of the reason for this movie is for Tarantino to sneak in a foreign language film under Hollywood's nose. Lol

Guys its pretty obvious that Landa knows exactly that it's Shoshanna. The fact he ordered milk is a dead give away. Second he ordered creme for the strudel. Due to dairy shortages during the war (a lot of dairy production diverted to war needs) the creme was made with pork fat substituting for dairy, making it non kosher. Basically though Shoshsnna wasn't doing anything to bother him. She may in fact have been recorded as dead in order not to besmirch his efficiency reports. So unless she does something Landa wouldn't pursue her. Plus he's the kind of person who likes to play with their food before eating it.

Like his other pastiches, he uses music directly from other cult/genre films. At one point, music from the excellent The Big Gundown, starring Lee Van Cleef.

Landa knew axactly who Shoshana was at the resturant... thats why he ordered her milk. He was toying with her, but he didnt call her out, because he needed her alive for his plan. He knew the Basterds were planning something, but he didnt know about Shoshana's plan. That was just a bonus.

I think the ordering of milk is merely to keep you guessing “Does he know it’s her?” Milk isn’t unreasonable to drink with a dessert. At this point in the story he doesn’t know Hitler will be attending and as he tells Aldo “You need all four to end the war.” Without being able to deliver Hitler, his plan to get immunity for himself doesn’t work. Like the briefcase in Pulp Fiction, we’re never meant to truly know the answer. Fun to consider the question though.

The Actress is Lea Seydoux as Fragile in Death Stranding. and I don't think she had many english speaking roles before this. Always forget this movie was made almost 15 years ago.

It is too bad it's not historically accurate. ..
You guys are wonderful, and so much more aware of the nuances of the the film making industry, camera lenses and so on.
...and I do so much enjoy revenge stories...
    Thank you for sharing.

    • @donpietruk1517

A lot of people comment on the historical accuracy part. But in my mind Tarantino's films take place in an alternate reality to ours. Events unfold along the same broad historical framework as ours but with some interesting differences. So I think this allows the "playing" with history that Tarantino does. Everything is very familiar and very similar, but not quite.
